ACT ASPIRE TESTING ASSESSMENT FOR FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORES
What is the ACT Aspire?
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) entered into a
partnership with ACT®, Inc. during the 2014- 15 fiscal year to
comprehensively assess Wisconsin high school students.
The ACT Aspire, which can be administered beginning in third grade and
through 10th grade, is designed to assess both understanding of new
Common Core standards and college readiness. The program tests students
in five main subjects: math, reading, English, writing, and science.
This system of assessments will allow teachers to measure a student’s growth
throughout high school.
ACT Aspire™ Early High School scores are reported on a 3-digit scale. These
scores will predict future ACT scores. Score reports will be available 4-6
weeks after each assessment is given.
What grade levels will receive the ACT
Aspire test? ACT Aspire – Grades 9 and 10

Parents who wish to “Opt Out” their student
from taking the ACT Aspire test should email
their student’s counselor with his/her name, ID
number, and a statement saying “They are
opting their student out of the ACT Aspire Test.”
ACT Aspire assesses student readiness
in English, mathematics, reading,
science, and writing.
All students in grades 9 and 10 will be
given the ACT Aspire except for
approximately 1% of students with
significant cognitive disabilities who will
be tested with an alternate assessment
(DLM Assessment).
Along with local measures such as report
cards, school-wide assessments, and
other information about your child’s
progress in school, the results from the
ACT Aspire provide insight into how well
your child is doing on a broad measure
of achievement.

NORTH HIGH SCHOOL’S NATIONAL
HONOR SOCIETY According to its official website, National Honor Society (NHS) has been recognizing outstanding student
achievement since 1921. Becoming a member of NHS is a distinction that holds significance throughout a student’s
academic life and beyond. The official NHS insignia is a symbol of excellence proudly worn by members and widely
recognized by school administrators, faculty members, students, and parents alike.
Today, NHS chapters are found in all fifty states. Four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: "To create enthusiasm
for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools"
(from the NHS Constitution).
Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments but challenges them to develop further through active
involvement in school activities and community service. Instilling these values early in life helps to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of
service. Membership in National Honor Society is both an honor and a responsibility. Members of North High School’s Chapter are
responsible for activities like our school’s weekly recycling pick up, volunteering with the Special Olympics, and serving meals at Family
Promise (formerly The Beacon House).
Current sophomores and juniors with a cumulative 3.5 GPA are eligible for selection for the 2021-22 school year. This information will also be
available on the school’s website after spring break. There will be reminders through the daily announcements the week of April 5.
Candidate’s resumes will be due on April 21st. Resumes should be submitted electronically to both [email protected] and
[email protected]. Determination of selection will be a combined result of a 3.5 GPA, a solid resume, and a strong faculty rating. The new
member lists will be posted mid-May outside rooms 241 and 253.
Resumes should include activities and details that portray the four pillars of the organization. Include any activities, jobs, and volunteer work
you have been part of starting with the summer before your freshmen year. Resumes should be very detailed with dates, hours, and
explanations. There are many resume templates available online.
