Regarding the 30-Day Substitute Permit

Some of you have wondered about the process of getting the Substitute Permit so you can be paid during times that your cooperating teacher is sick and away from the school. You must have a 30-Day Substitute Permit from the Santa Cruz County Office of Education if you wish to be paid as a sub in the schools in this area. For schools around San Jose, you will need to apply for a 30-Day Substitute Permit through the Santa Clara County Office of Education. There is no shortcut to getting this permit - unfortunately you will need to submit official transcripts confirming your BA, submit passing verification for the CBEST and you will need to be re-fingerprinted by the COE.

Having a 30 day substitute permit does not eliminate any fees that you will need to pay in order to get your credential after completing the UCSC teacher education program.

Here is a link to the CTC page explaining what a 30-Day Substitute Permit is. http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/cl505p.pdf
