While preparing this issue of
Activated, someone brought to myattention the following statement madein 1958 by Edward R. Murrow, the U.S. journalist who helpedpioneer broadcast reporting in the early days of television:
We are currently wealthy, fat, comfortable, and complacent. Our mass media reflect this. But unless we get up off our fatsurpluses and recognize that television is being used to distract
delude, amuse, and insulate us, then television and those whofinance it, those who look at it, and those who work at it may seea totally different picture too late. This instrument can teach, itcan illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so onlyto the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends
With all the talk there is these days of declining moralvalues and the part that the entertainment industryparticu-larly television and Hollywoodhas played in that, Murrowswords seem prophetic. We are seeing a very different picturetoday. But is it too late?
For society at large, Im afraid so. I say that not out of pes-simism, frustration, or despair, but because this trend away froma clearly defined and universally accepted standard of right andwrong is one of the signs that Jesus said would signal His soon
return. Because iniquity [sin] shall abound, the love of manyshall wax [grow] cold (Matthew 24:12 KJV).
But what about you and yours? Is it too late for you? Thatdepends largely on your choices, whether you decide to just gowith the flow, or buck the tide. You cant control whats out thereyou cant control whats on TV or in movies or on the radio or inprint, but you can control what you take in. You cant determinesocietys values, but you can determine your own.

>>SOMEBODYONCESAID, YOU AREWHATYO UREAD. Its like the
saying about health, You are what you eat, physically.Well, you are what you read, mentally andspiritually. And the same is true of movies,TV, music, and other forms of input, like theInternet and computer games. Tell me whatkind of input someone enjoys most, and Ican usually tell what that persons spiritualcondition is like.
God created people with a spiritual hunger
for truthinsights and ideas that will feedtheir souls, bring them closer to Him by helping them betterunderstand Him and His loving ways, and inspire them tolive better lives. But sad to say, a lot of people today havedeveloped perverted spiritual appetites through readingand viewing the wrong kinds of things, similar to what hap-pens when people develop an appetite for junk food a ndsweets, and lose their appetite for good wholesome food.
It reminds me of the fol-lowing verses from the BibleWhy do you spend moneyfor what is not bread, and
your wages for what does nosatisfy? Eat what is good, an
let your soul delight itself inabundance (Isaiah 55:2),and, Do not labor for the fo
which perishes, but for thefood which endures to ever-lasting life (John 6:27).
The portrayal of attitudeand actions that are contrato the way God wants us tothink and act really does ha

an effect on people, whetherthey like to admit that or not.Filling their minds and hearts
with lies and half-truthswill eat away at t heir spirits, even if they are only readingor viewing for relaxation or
entertainment. Multiply thateffect a few million times, andit has the same bad effect onsociety. The world today isproof of that!
D ISCERN AND
DISCRIMINATE
Everything that you takeinto your mind affects yourspirit. Movies, music, books, newspapers, magazines, TV,radio, and the Internet areall mediums for conveying a
message, and that message is
either inspired by God and inline with His Word, or its not.
Much of whats out theretoday is what the Bible callscunni ngly devised fables(2 Peter 1:16)cunninglyinspired not by God, butby the dark side to deceivepeople, lead them astray, andnumb them spiritual ly to
where they no longer know
what is true or right.Reading the wrong kind of
books or watching the wrongkind of movies does not makepeople wise! It leaves themdumber and more confusedand further from the truththan ever! The wisdom of this
world is absolute foolishness to God (1 Corinthians 3:19).People eat junk food because it lookslike food and is tasty,
but enough of it will eventually kill them. Thats why its sodangerousbecause its so deceptive. And the same is trueof junk reading and viewing.
The Devil is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44). Andlet me tell you, his lies are very clever! Part of what he says is
always true, because he couldnt get people to believe his liesunless he told some truth along with them. He mixes in littletruths, like he did with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
When he tempted them to disobey God and eat the forbiddenfruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he toldthem, You will be like God (Genesis 3:5). What a temptingtruth that wasand they swallowed it! (Genesis 3:6).
HOW ABOUT YOU?
It is not wrong to sometimes read or watch for relaxation, but if you arent choosey about what input you receive, if youdont guard yourself against ungodly input, it will be moredraining to your spirit than beneficial. Whatever things aretrue, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just,
whatever things are pure, what-ever things are lovely, whateverthings are of good report, if thereis any virtue and if there is any-thing praiseworthymeditate onthese things (Philippians 4:8).
Even books and movies and other things that are mostly
good can inf luence you adversely if you dont make a con-scious effort to focus on the positive and reject the negative, either during or after your reading or viewing. The Bible saysto eschew [abstain from] evil, and do good (1 Peter 3:11,KJV)a verse that applies not only to what we do, but also
what we take in, since that wil l ultimately affect our actions. You also need to make sure youre getting filled up with
the truth of Gods Word to counteract any bad inf luencesthat whatever else youve been reading or watching mayhave on you. Keep your heart with all dil igence, for out of itspring the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23).
There is a saying about prayer: You believe in prayer asmuch as you pray. I would say the same about Gods Wordand worldly input: You believe the Word as much as youread it, or you believe in that other stuff as much as youtake it in. I hope that you are gettinggoodspiritual food, because your spiritual health and happiness depend on it.
You arewhat you take in!
EVERYTHING THAT YOU TAKE INTO

IFTODAYWASYOURLAST andyou knew it, how muchtime would you spend onthings that mean nothingin the scope of eternity?
Your minutes would beextremely valuable, and
you would choose to spendthem on the things that

THE HAPPINESSAND JO YTHAT JESUSCA NGIVEYO U is light yearsbeyond anything that the world can offer. Fulfi llment, peace, love, satisfaction, knowledge, trutht here is no
way that the world can compete with Him in those areas. Ittakes discipline of mind and body to learn to treasure thosethings above the sights, sounds, tastes, and pleasures thatthe world has to offer. Its a matter of satisfying your heart
and mind more than your five senses. When it comes downto it, thats really a ll the world can g ive youtemporarysatisfaction of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touches. But beyond those things, nothing the world has can satisfythe other cravings in your soul. Only Jesus can really sat-isfy. He is the answer. But as long as youre still looking forthe things of this world to satisfy and make you happy, you
wont find the truth (1 John 2:1517).MARIA FONTAINE

In Part 1 of this article, theprophet Daniel (circa 538 BC)began to recount a vision con-cerning the latter daystheEndtime, in which we are nowliving. The first part of thevision describes in some detailthe coming world dictatorknown as the Antichrist, aswell as the first two wars hewill wage to seize and try tohold on to power. But there ismore to come.
DANIEL 11:2931THE
THIRD ANTICHRIST WAR?
Verse 29: At the appointedtime he [the Antichrist] shallreturn and go toward thesouth; but it shall not be likethe former or the latter.
Its somehow going to bedifferent this time, but againit sounds like war because itsays in the next verse
Verse 30: Ships fromCyprus shall come against
him; therefore he shall begrieved, and return in rageagainst the holy covenant, and do damage. So he shallreturn and show regard forthose who forsake the holycovenant.
From Cyprus couldmean from the direction of
Cyprusfrom the west, inother words.
Verse 31: Forces shall bemustered by him, and theyshall defile the sanctuaryfortress; then they shall takeaway the daily sacrifices, andplace there the abominationof desolation.
This is a key verse because, together with Daniel 9:27, ittells us that three and a half
years after confirming theseven-year covenant, the
Antichrist will break it whenhe forcibly enters the Jewish
Temple (soon to be rebuilt onMount Moriah, Jerusalem),
takes away the daily sacrifice, and places there somethingcalled the abomination ofdesolation (also referred toin Revelation chapter 13 asthe image of the Beast).
Five hundred years afterDaniel gave this prophecy, when Jesus disciples asked
Him what would be the signsof His return and of theend of the world, He citedthis development. When
you see the abominationof desolation, spoken of byDaniel the prophet, standingin the holy place then there
will be great tribulation, such
as has not been since thebeginning of the world untilthis time, no, nor ever shallbe (Matthew 24:3,15,21).
It seems that three warsprecede the breaking of the
seven-year covenantonebefore it is made, one at sompoint during the first threeand a half years, and one thaends with the breaking of thcovenant.
TRIBULATION TYRANNY
AND TRIUMPHS
Verses 32 through 35 dealwith the next three and a hal
yearsafterthe covenant isbroken: Those who do wick-edly against the covenant heshall corrupt with flattery; bthe people who know theirGod shall be strong, and carrout great exploits. And thoseof the people who understanshall instruct many; yet for

many days they shall fall bysword and flame, by captiv-

Although much of theworld will continue to followthe Antichrist, some peopleare going to be desperatefor the truth, and those whoknow Gods Word and arefaithful witnesses for theLord are going to teach andencourage millions.
The people who know theirGod shall be strong, and carry
out great exploits. In spite ofall that the Devils forces willdo to try to stop them, mil-
lions of Gods children willkeep going for Him till thevery end.
Verses 36 and 37: Thenthe king [Antichrist] shall doaccording to his own wil l:he shall exalt and magnifyhimself above every god, shallspeak blasphemies againstthe God of gods, and shallprosper till the wrath hasbeen accomplished; for whathas been determined shall bedone. He shall regard neitherthe God of his fathers nor thedesire of women, nor regard
any god; for he shall exalthimself above them all.
The Antichrist is going to beso full of pride that he will tr yto exalt himself above every-one and every godeventhe one true God Himself. 2Thessalonians 2:4 says the
Antichrist will oppose andexalt himself above all thatis cal led God or that is wor-
shiped, so that he sits as Godin the temple of God, showinghimself that he is God.
The Antichrist shallspeak blasphemies againstthe God of gods, and shallprosper till the wrath hasbeen accomplished; for whathas been determined shall
be done. Revelation 13:5parallels this statement, andalso tells us how long this
will go on: And he [the Beastor Antichrist] was given amouth speaking great thingsand blasphemies, and he wasgiven authority to continuefor forty-two months [threeand a half years].
Verse 38: But in theirplace he shall honor a god offortresses [or god of forces,as the Hebrewma` owzistranslated in the King James
Version]; and a god which his
fathers did not know he shallhonor with gold and silver,
with precious stones andpleasant things.
This god of forces couldbe armaments, and the factthat the Antichrist will honorthis god with gold and silvercould refer to his militaryspending. Thats nothing newbecause even the empires
of Daniels day made a godof power and spent much oftheir empires revenue onarmaments and maintainingtheir armies. What isnew inthe last couple of generationsis nuclear armsa god whichis fathers did not know.(To be continued)

FROM JESUS WITH LOVE
HOW TO
GET THE MOSTFROM LIFEIts sad how so many people arecontent to just let life pass them by.Sure, they may be busy keeping upor trying to get ahead, and they mayfill every spare moment with activities
that they hope will be relaxing andenjoyable, but where is all that busyactivity taking them? When do theyreally live?
The secret to getting the most out oflife is in living close to Me and livingin My Word. By that I dont meanthat you should hide away and giveyourself solely to quiet reflection andstudy; I mean that you should try to
include Me in your daily activities andapply My Word to whatever youredoing. If you can learn to do that, your life will take on new meaningand depth. You will not only be muchhappier and feel more fulfilled, butyou will brighten the lives of thosearound you as you reflect My loveand the light of My Word in all you do.
It starts by making a habit of takinga few quiet minutes at the start ofevery day for prayer and reading MyWord. Then take what I have taughtyou in the classroom and apply it
throughout the day. If you dont knowhow, just shoot up a quick prayer andI will show you. On the job, runningerrands, or relaxing with family andfriends, I can make you a greaterblessing to others and bless you inthe process. Life will become richerand more meaningful as I help youmake more time for the most inter-esting and rewarding thing I havegoingpeople. Youll even get much
more out of such everyday things asreading the newspaper or watchinga movie or TV if you ask Me for My
mind on each matter. I think youll besurprised to find how much I knowand how much I have to offer!
