DESCRIPTION
Active Energy The greater life experience of older people is rarely a factor in the development of new technologies designed to support a better future. Active Energy commenced as a creative response to a research project investigating this phenomenon. Over five years a group of senior working class men in East London have raised and answered important questions regarding the possibility of powering of London with tidal energy generated by the flow of the River Thames. Meanwhile in the US a group of senior women in Pittsburgh have identified the pressing need for accessible information on Alzheimer’s disease. Art exhibitions in the UK and US, intergenerational mentoring, prototyping workshops, interdisciplinary conference presentations and a turbine-driven lightwork have ensued, supported by universities, galleries, senior centres, engineers and medical researchers to generate public attention and action around these crucial issues. Project led by artist Loraine Leeson. http://www.active-energy-london.orgTRANSCRIPT
