GETTING MORE OUT OF LIFE BY GIVING MORE OF YOURSELF EVERY DAY

Page 4: Active Living Magazine Aug/Sept14

My heart is racing right now as I sit here knowing thousands of beautiful, strong and inspirational women are reading the official launch issue of Active Living. I have to actually pinch myself to believe it’s really happening!

When I look back 25 years to the start of my Active Living, journey never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be launching my own magazine. But that¹s the thing about dreams isn’t it, you have to have them and you have to believe in them if you want great things to happen.

This magazine is a one-stop shop for the modern active woman, a place where she can learn more about health, fitness and all things Active Living. A place were she feels encouraged to harness her unique talents and live to her full potential. We are on a mission to search the planet for the most authentic, inspirational and empowering content to change the way you look at the day ahead because I want each and every one of you to get more out of life by giving more of yourselves every day. But above all else, I want you to discover the abundance of rewards that roll in rapidly when you start to move, nourish and believe in yourself.

For the launch issue, we’ve rounded up some of the most exciting reads including an interview with three of the country’s most glowing Active Living advocates Laura Dundovic, Renae Ayris and Liz Cantor. Each of these amazing women are so passionate about role modeling good health and radiate true beauty from the inside out. It was a total joy seeing them shed light on some of their daily rituals; they really are the perfect example of what it means to live actively.

If you’re on the hunt for an invigorating and revitalizing way to spend your summer vacay, our round- up of Yoga retreats on page 36 is a must read! From the beguiling beauty of Byron Bay to the tranquillity of Thailand’s most lush terrain, we’ve scoped out five of the most MNB approved destinations where you can bow forth and bliss out! Also inside is a whole host of nurturing ways to nourish not only your body but also your psyche.

September also sees us celebrating our third annual Active Nation Day (Sunday 28th September), so commit to the movement, pencil the date in your diaries and grab your best gal pals to show the world that we are the active nation we say we are. We’ve got great things planned for you and believe me this is one event you don¹t want to miss! Flip to page 46 to read all about Active Nation Day and learn how you can play your part.

There is so much more for you to see and enjoy on these pages but in a nutshell, this magazine is for you, the women who motivate me to get out of bed every morning, the ones who inspire me to do and be better every day and the ones who I have dedicated my life to empowering. I hope you enjoy the launch issue.

MNB always,

FIT TIP:

Christine suggests

always packing your

fave LJ excel™ pieces when

travelling to ensure you can

workout comfortably in

any climate

Whether summer in the States or

winter ‘Down Under’, vacation time

is finally here, but that doesn’t give

us a hall pass to skip our workouts!

There are so many ways to sneak

in a quick and effective workout

conveniently from the comfort of

your hotel room so you stay on

track and can indulge in a guilt-free

croissant!

All you need is a chair, but a hard bed

or bench will suffice. Perform each

of these 4 circuits rotating from A-B

on the left and right side and bring

it home with a high intensity fat

blasting cardio peak!

WORKOUT:A CHAIR IS ALL YOU NEED FOR THIS TONING

WORKOUT FROM LA’S HOTTEST TRAINER, CHRISTINE BULLOCK. NO EXCUSES!

TRICEP DIP

a) Sit with the heels of your hands on the edge of the chair and slide

your glutes off the seat. Make a figure-4 with your legs, by crossing your

right ankle over your left leg. Your left leg should be bent at a 90-degree

angle, with thigh parallel to floor. b) Bend your elbows to 90° and slowly

lower your lower body toward the floor, so it clears the seat. Press into

your hands to lengthen arms and lift the body, until you return to start.

Complete 2 sets alternating legs, with 20-30 repetitions.

CHAIR KNEE PULL

a) Start in a plank position, with hands shoulder width apart on the chair.

b) Pull right knee to the chest, return to start, and repeat on the left.

Complete 30-60 reps.

CIRCUIT 2:

CHAIR LEG LIFT

a) Stand feet hip-width apart with

hands on the back of chair. Place

right foot on the seat of the chair

and stand. Lower the chest and

extend the back leg to a “T” shape.

b) Bend the supportive leg, while

lowering the back leg and lifting the

chest. Imagine you’re dipping your

back foot in a pool to check the

temperature. Lengthen the front leg

and return to your starting position

in the “T” shape. Complete 2 sets of

20-30 reps on each leg.

MOTHER NATURE WAS FEELING GENEROUS WHEN SHE

CREATED KALE. THOSE LONG, LOVELY, TEXTURED LEAVES ARE PACKED WITH BIG-TIME HEALTH

PROPERTIES.

There are three main varieties of kale, in season

autumn and winter: black Tuscan (‘cavolo

nero’, with dark green, flat leaves), red Russian

(curly green leaves, red stems) and green

Scottish (bright green leaves with frilly edges).

HEALTH PROPERTIESKale contains vitamins C and A and is full of

antioxidants, important in the prevention of

degenerative diseases as well as the visible signs of

ageing, according to nutrition specialist and author

Dr Libby Weaver.

You’ll also find calcium (for healthy bones), iron (which

carries oxygen through the body), and vitamin K (to

help protect against various cancers). “Kale is also rich

in beta-carotene, some of which the body converts

into vitamin A, essential for healthy vision and skin,”

Dr Weaver explains.

STORAGE AND COOKING TIPS~ Store in a loosely sealed plastic bag, wash before use.

~ Young, small kale leaves are perfect to eat raw, but

older, larger leaves need to be gently cooked. Discard

old, woody stems.

~ Raw kale pairs beautifully with cucumber, coconut and

avocado in smoothies; or try older leaves with bacon,

beans, onion and pine nuts.

STORY BY KRIS FRANKEN

This vegan and dairy-free pesto is perfect for all

our Sporty Sisters and can be made in next to no time. Adding a small handful of cashews will give extra crunch and flavour to your pesto, as well as adding dietary

fibre, zinc and essential fatty acids. Plus, it tastes

delicious!

Hey pesto!Pesto is a great way to use up leftover greens or herbs you have in the fridge

and kale pesto makes a nice alternative to the traditional basil version. It can be

kept for 4–5 days stored in the fridge in tightly sealed jars. Pour a bit of extra

olive oil to cover the surface of the pesto. This will stop air from oxidising

the pesto, keeping the beautiful greens from going brown.

Page 26: Active Living Magazine Aug/Sept14

I f you have a gut instinct that what you

eat shows up in your complexion, then

you’re right! Probiotics, which are well

known for sorting out digestive issues,

can also help irritated or stressed out skin.

“Probiotics help balance the skin’s natural

flora, keeping it looking lovely and healthy,”

“BEAUTY BEGINS IN THE BELLY.”

explains Carla Oates of The Beauty Chef.

“This means using natural, nutrient-dense

skincare that feeds the good bacteria, not

harsh chemical-laden skincare that will

“Beauty begins in the belly,” Oates

make nutrients, metabolise hormones,

make detoxifying enzymes and neutralise

For a double dose of probiotic goodness,

you can also look for them in the beauty

probiotics directly to skin can help with

everything from acne to dryness and

general irritation.

Whether it’s a desk,

a nook or an entire

room, if your “study”

is drowning in a

mess of paperwork, coffee mugs

and charger cables, it’s time to

swap clutter for creativity. “If you

are going to be productive when

you’re doing work at home, it’s so

important to set the boundaries and

make the room a precious space,”

says productivity consultant and

organisational guru Narelle Todd.

The easiest way to take charge of

your productivity is by transforming

a space of almost any size into a

functional haven for inspiration.

Set aside a weekend for the task

and don’t be afraid to dream

big! Take your cues from nature,

magazines and words of wisdom to

create a truly individual space.

These tips from Narelle Todd will

help make sure your next study

break doesn’t give you a breakdown!

DESKINGHOT

VISUALISE THE SPACETake the time to stand back, look

at the room and imagine your ideal

uncluttered study – with a dose of

personal style. “Be really clear in

your mind first as to exactly how

you want to use the room,” says

Todd. “You can then create zones in

the study.”

GET DOWN TO BUSINESSIf certain items don’t belong in the

study but have somehow landed

there, send them back to their

natural habitat. Yes, we’re looking

at you, nail polish bottle, lip balm

applicator and dog’s leash!

Think about what you need most

in your study and you will have

taken a key step in de-cluttering the

space. Still feeling overwhelmed by

a less-than-tidy room? Todd advises

keeping related items together by

using clear storage containers,

colour-coded folders and coloured

in-trays.

A WHEELY GOOD IDEAIf your study does double-duty as a

guest bedroom, children’s play area

or dining room, tables or storage

cabinets on wheels make a space

more versatile, says Todd.

CULTIVATE YOUR CREATIVITYYour study may be a place of work,

but that doesn’t mean it can’t

showcase your signature style. Give

props to Mother Nature with a leafy

plant or fresh flowers.

Add pops of colour and a sense of

fun with a brightly-hued desk lamp,

artwork or a patterned-fabric chair.

And never lose sight of your dreams

by literally keeping them in plain

view. Frame and hang inspiring

words, or create a mood board as

a regular reminder of exactly what

you’re striving for. Whether your

goals relate to love, health, or career,

keeping them in focus helps boost

your motivation every single day.

AUSTRALIABYRON BAY, NEW SOUTH WALES Sun salutations are even more mind-blowing in Byron Bay: as the easternmost point in Australia, it’s here that the sun literally rises first. Teacher Sue Hawkins runs her Yoga Health Retreats (yogahealthretreats.com) all over the world, including a five-day Luxury Rejuvenation retreat at the Byron at Byron Bay Resort. Between sessions, you can walk in the rainforest, cut through the private track from the resort to the beach, or just hang on your balcony and think about how blessed (and blissed out) you’re feeling.

If you can’t make it to one of the dedicated retreats, the Byron at Byron (thebyronatbyron.com.au) also runs a year-round Mind, Body and Soul package that comes packed with a daily yoga class, green smoothies, complimentary

bike hire, and a massage. It’s also equipped with complimentary Wifi but try switching off from social media (you can Instagram the stunning sunsets when you get home #latergram). MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE MNB POINTS: this scores high on the Move scale, with loads of activities available on foot, in the water and on two wheels. And the Byron at Byron’s head chef Gavin Hughes sure knows how to Nourish with healthy meals that tingle your tastebuds.

DAINTREE, QUEENSLAND There’s something pretty special about being the only yoga retreat in the world that’s located right in the middle of two World Heritage-

listed sites. Say hello to Prema Shanti Yoga and Mediation Retreat (premashanti.com), which is smack bang between the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree rainforest. There are rainforest trails to explore and swimming holes to plunge in (check which ones are safe, first!), or you might like to grab a meditation chair and just sit for a while. Hey, we definitely wouldn’t blame you! Bonus: the retreat runs all year round, so there’s no hassles fitting it into your schedule.

MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE MNB POINTS: the magical location and guided meditation classes make Prema Shanti an easy place to be inspired, breathe and Believe. The yoga classes cater to all levels of experience so you can also get your Move on daily.

THAILANDKOH SAMUI “Yoga retreat” is possibly too simple a term for Kamalaya Koh Samui (kamalya.com) – it’s a complete wellness centre and spa with programs for detox and stress management running alongside its dedicated yoga programs.

Co-founded by herbalist and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner Karina Stewart, Kamalaya is all about rebalancing the mind and body through a combination of private yoga sessions, massage and other therapies – from naturopathy to Ayurveda – as needed. It sounds intense, but personally tailored programs can start from three nights. MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE MNB POINTS: Kamalaya ticks all the Move Nourish Believe boxes. Try power yoga or a fit ball class, get Nourished with a healthy cooking class or vego-friendly meals and find some balance with a reiki session or an inspirational workshop.

INDONESIASEMINYAK, BALI If your goal is to connect with other Sporty Sisters as well as make time for your downward dogs, then you can’t go past Escape Haven in Bali (escapehaven.com). All retreats are female only and offered to small groups of a dozen or less. And if learning to surf is also on your bucket list, you can choose one of the combined yoga-and-surfing programs.

Founded by New Zealander Janine Hall – who swapped a career in fashion marketing for a chance to start her dream retreat – Escape Haven now has locations in Byron Bay, Morocco and Portugal, as well as the original Bali resort.

MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE MNB POINTS: Escape Haven is all about Moving it, in as many fun ways as possible. And menus packed with local, organic fruit and vegetables, local seafood and herbal teas make it super easy to stay Nourished.

USASAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA Get outta town – literally! Sagrada Wellness Retreat (sagradawellness.com) is located in San Luis Obispo, a three-hour drive north-west of LA, and it’s definitely worth the drive for one of their three-day retreats. A diverse roster of options means you can combine yoga with pilates, hiking, or inspirational workshops. Most are held over a long weekend, making this an excellent way to get some time out during an LA holiday.

Sagrada runs its own organic vegie and herb garden and builds its retreat menus to be vegetarian and gluten-free.

MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE MNB POINTS: Nourish is a big priority here – vegetables, grains and oils are certified organic where possible and the chickens that roam the land provide eggs for the day. Alongside the organised yoga classes, there’s plenty of free time so you can Move as much as you like.

WE RANKED THESE RETREATS ON AN MNB SCALE OF ONE TO SWEET

AS MORE PARENTS CHOOSE A MONTESSORI EDUCATION FOR THEIR KIDS, WE DISCOVER THAT IT HAS PLENTY TO OFFER ADULTS, TOO.

I talian physician Dr Maria

Montessori founded her

teaching method in 1907, and

the first Australian Montessori

school opened in 1913. Today, more

than 250 schools around the country

cater to children of all ages. But this

approach to learning and living isn’t

just for kids. Here are four ways it

can enrich your life right now.

TAKE PLEASURE IN LEARNINGAccording to Dr Montessori we are

all born with an inherent desire to

learn. “One of the key components

of a Montessori education is

encouraging children to play

a significant role in their own

learning,” explains Dr Bill McKeith,

principal of Inner Sydney Montessori

School. “If we as adults can develop

in ourselves a lifelong love of

learning, then we’ve captured

something that’s powerful.”

Try this: Study a passionate project

or hobby, via a course or book.

OWN YOUR ACHIEVEMENTSTaking ownership of learning

and a sense of direction is key to

Montessori; this way you’ll have a

much higher level of satisfaction

from your achievements, explains

Dr McKeith. “If you’re bossed

around, then you have a lot less

satisfaction.”

Try this: Take responsibility for the

good and the bad. It’s more fulfilling

to be an active participant in life.

RESPECT RELATIONSHIPSThe relationship between directors

(teachers) and children at Dr

McKeith’s school is one of mutual

respect. “We talk about grace and

courtesy; that’s implicit to the way

we would hope adults can relate to

one another,” he says.

Try this: Boost your self-talk with

self-respect and it will feel natural to

extend grace, courtesy and respect

to everyone else, equally.

SHRUG OFF COMPARISONS“Montessori education has always

focused on formative assessment,”

says Dr McKeith. “[This is]

where you’re continually being

observed and modified in the

understanding that each child is on

an individualised pathway.”

Try this: Don’t worry about where

other people are at; focus on your

own life and where you’re headed.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE GIRLS! What do Laura Dundovic, Renae Ayris and Liz Cantor all have in common? Aside

from their killer careers and beguiling beauty that shines from the inside out, each one of these quintessentially Aussie gals is completely committed to Active Living and we’re so excited to have them on board as advocates for Active Nation Day.

With September 28 just around the corner (mark it in your diaries if you haven’t already), we thought there was no time like the present to catch up with these bombshells to find out what Active Living really means for them.

From the Model and Presenter…LAURA DUNDOVIC

WHEN DID YOUR PASSION FOR ACTIVE LIVING BEGIN? I’ve always been pretty sporty. I have two brothers and lived next door to 3 boys so my weekends were all spent playing sport and being active. It isn’t until now, that I’ve learnt to truly embrace it. Active Living isn’t just about working up a sweat at the gym, it’s about eating good, nutritious foods and taking care of yourself.

MY FAVOURITE WAY TO WORKOUT IS… Running! I love it so much. I find it to be such a great stress reliever, plus the endorphins are always a bonus (laughs). The best thing about running is, you can do it anywhere. When I travel I always, always take my activewear, so there’s no excuse not to keep up my workout regime.

IT’S A RAINY DAY AND COLD OUTSIDE… HOW DO YOU FIND THE MOTIVATION TO GET YOUR ACTIVEWEAR ON AND GET MOVING? I don’t! Haha! Just kidding. A new gym outfit helps, or curating the perfect workout playlist – those two things will usually get me out the door pretty quickly!

WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT, EXERCISE OR GOOD NUTRITION? I know the general answer is nutrition, but I say both! You have got to have a balance of the two to stay both mentally and physically fit.

WHAT DOES BEING HEALTHY MEAN TO YOU? To me being healthy is about not only eating well and keeping active but also looking after yourself

mentally. The older I get the more I have come to realise the sheer importance of scheduling some down time. I also think being healthy is about really knowing and listening to your body. So we need to find out what works for our body, and more importantly what doesn’t.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THOSE READING THIS THAT THINK THEY’RE TOO BUSY TO FIND TIME TO EXERCISE? There are so many things you can do without having to find a block off time to go to the gym. You can do things like body weight exercises while watching TV or start walking to and from the bus stop and taking the stairs. Every little bit counts. Consistency is key.

WHAT’S ONE OF YOUR PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS? Miss Universe was pretty exciting! I also finished my psychology degree and got into honors that year which was something I had wanted to do since I was very young.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE SONG TO LISTEN TO WHEN YOU EXERCISE? Currently I’ve got Pusha T on high rotation. But generally, anything that has a good beat and motivates me to get moving!

YOU’VE HAD A BUSY YEAR, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH BEFORE THE YEAR IS OVER? I’m participating in the Oxfam 100km trek in a few weeks. So I think that will do me for the year! Haha.

MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE 43

Page 46: Active Living Magazine Aug/Sept14

HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN PASSIONATE ABOUT HEALTHY LIVING? WHAT WAS THE ‘UH HA’ MOMENT FOR YOU? To be honest I haven’t always been as passionate as I am now about healthy living. I became more and more passionate about it the more I realised how important it was for my career and my general wellbeing. It’s amazing how much better I feel when I’m living a healthy lifestyle. I think the ‘uh ha’ moment for me was when I gave up dancing at the age of 17. I realised when I wasn’t exercising as much that my nutrition was just as important as my exercise. MY MORNING ROUTINE CONSISTS OF…

Wake up and have a green tea and breakfast, no matter what time I get up. Then I like to go for a 40 minute power walk. Morning walks make me feel refreshed and energised for the rest of the day.

MY FAVOURITE WAY TO WORKOUT IS…. I love beautiful scenery, so long power walks

along the coast is one of my favourite things to do. I’ve also just started doing weights which my body is loving me for. I’m really starting to see my body change shape.

ANY TIPS OR ADVICE FOR READERS ABOUT HOW TO START ON THEIR ACTIVE LIVING JOURNEY? Getting started is the hardest part. But once you’ve made the commitment to live a healthier lifestyle you won’t be turning back. Your body will love you for it, you will find you are enjoying each day more and more. I find as soon as I have new workout gear I want to try it out and exercise. So this could be something to try :)

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY OF MNB’ING (MOVE NOURISH BELIEVING) LOOK LIKE IN YOUR WORLD? With a busy schedule my ‘typical’ day changes all the time. I know that if I don’t fuel my body with nutritious food my body hates me for it. I believe it’s all about a healthy balance and I don’t cut anything out of my diet or count calories. Each day I will do at least 30 minutes of some kind of exercise. Obviously I do more when I can. I like to do different kinds of exercises/classes to keep it interesting.

ONE THING YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME IS…… I am obsessed with vinegar. I put it on anything I possibly can, and when I say ‘put it on’ I mean drown my food in it :)

From the Beauty Queen…RENAE AYRIS

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A PART OF ACTIVE NATION DAY? With my career, it is important for me to live an active lifestyle and keep fit, and I am well aware of the benefits of this. I know we all live busy lives and sometimes we can’t find that extra time to exercise and fall into a pattern, forgetting how important it is. Active Nation Day brings us all together and makes us remember how much fun being active can be.

RENAE AYRIS

RENAE AYRIS

...ONCE YOU’VE MADE THE COMMITMENT TO LIVE A

HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE YOU WON’T BE TURNING BACK.

@renaeayris

Page 47: Active Living Magazine Aug/Sept14

From the TV Presenter… LIZ CANTOR

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A PART OF ACTIVE NATION DAY? Earlier this year my 61-year-old mum took up running for the first time in her life. She’s always been naturally super skinny so never needed to exercise for weight purposes, but with age she became aware of keeping her heart healthy. She jogs 10kms at a slow pace a couple of times a week and I’ve seen a newfound confidence in her spirit and spring in her step. It’s been a joy to see. Helping spread the word that being active isn’t just about your physical appearance but your mental state and sense of self is a message I very much want to be a part of.

WHEN DID YOUR PASSION FOR ACTIVE LIVING BEGIN? Active living has always been a lifestyle for me! A true water baby from birth when I wasn’t surfing I was horse riding or playing school sports so it wasn’t until I stopped surfing professionally and took up TV

presenting that exercise became more about staying at my physical best. I also loveeee food so active living allows me to feel guilt free about treating myself.

MY MORNING ROUTINE CONSISTS OF….. A cup of tea in bed with a teaspoon of coconut oil (I’ve found coconut oil helps prevent sugar cravings and keeps me regular) while I read the day’s paper and give the dog his allowed 15 mins in bed with me! Then I get moving, mixing up my mornings before work with yoga, surfing, a beach jog, or once a week I do

a session with a personal trainer. I also like to have a form of probiotics in the morning before breakfast!

MY FAVOURITE WAY TO WORKOUT IS…. When you work out with a treat at the end! I love walking from Miami to Broadbeach with my best friend for coffee and breakfast. Food tastes so much better at the end of 10ks!

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU? I love the strength to physically do what I want in any situation. There’s a real sense of satisfaction when you have the confidence to physically have a crack at things! And I’m not going to lie… I love the feel of my clothes fitting perfectly!

THE BEST ADVICE I’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN IS? From my trainer Natasha McInnes and it’s simple “REALLY listen to your body”. If you’re honest with yourself you will work out pretty quickly what makes you feel good and what makes you feel awful. I’ve found it easier to keep weight off since I cut back on over-exercising, as I was putting too much stress on my body and not giving it the proper recovery.

ONE THING YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME IS… I loveeeee to dance! I’m obsessed with dance movies! I’ve watched Dirty Dancing hundreds of times! I love to go to watch the ballet. I stop in my tracks whenever I see someone dancing to watch them!

MY HEART BEATS FAST WHEN… I’m out in big surf! It’s definitely when I feel the most alive! … And during first kisses ;)

I STAY TRUE TO MYSELF BY… Being a woman of my word and approaching everyone I meet with the ambition of respect.

Y ou only need to watch one episode of Sex and the City to be sold on the significance of a Sisterhood, and, in the wise words of Carrie Bradshaw “dreams change, trends come and go but friendship is forever”. We know that a good

group of girlfriends can help you kick bad moods, bad habits and even bad boys to the curb quicker than you can say “later”, but did you know they can also help you kick some serious life goals?

Let me paint you a picture… Think of your ultimate Sister of Support or as we like to call them your SOS. You know the one I’m talking about. She confiscates your phone after every breakup and consoles you with 90210 reruns, opts for the garden salad with you at an Italian restaurant because she knows you’re trying to detox and bombards your inbox with cute quotes when she knows you’re feeling down. But did you know that that unconditional love and support that can only be found in a true SOS is also the key to unlocking your best potential in other areas of your life? Yep, a pinch of positivity and a sprinkling of support really is the recipe for a sturdy friendship AND a successful life… We’ve even got the academic evidence to prove it!

Renowned psychologist Peter Doyle agrees that the company you keep has a profound impact on your likelihood of success and furthermore you’re more likely to strive to meet the bar if it’s been set by successful friends. Case in point? Doyle himself who managed to lose more than 30kg with the guidance and support of his trustworthy trainer who also transformed him into a dedicated triathlete in the process. The pair formed such a strong bond, they then went on to co-found Guidelight Personal Training and are now not only successful business partners but also buddies. Amazing! Doyle firmly believes that positive people are more likely to encourage others who are trying to achieve their goals

as they’ll be less threatened or fearful than the friend who struggles to fulfil her own goal. It’s official, positivity is contagious people… spread it like peanut butter!

What’s more? Doyle explains that once you have a support system in place, you’re more likely to achieve what you’ve set your

sights on while gaining a bit of confidence along the way… And it makes total sense; think about it for

a minute. If you’re embarking on a clean eating regime or fandangle new fitness routine who do you think you’re more likely to thrive beside? The friend who rolls over and hits snooze or the friend who jumps out of bed at 5am and is ready to move! You guessed it; after all… the

only difference between try and triumph is a little umph!

So if you’re chasing success, surround yourself with the friends who encourage you to go about that job

application with the same amount of gusto you usually reserve for the dance-floor on Saturday night and you may very well land your dream job! Stick by the ones who assure you that waking

up at 5am for a spin class is a much more positive way to start the day than a brooding battle with the alarm clock and make a pact to surround yourself only with people who are going to lift you higher!

Be the girls who radiate vivacious vitality and watch as you start a cycle of self-perpetuating positivity and success!

QI absolutely adore your Move Nourish

Believe way of life, I literally live, eat and

breathe it but my partner isn’t on the

health bandwagon and it’s exhausting cooking separate

meals. I love how good it feels to be healthy but how do

I get my partner to adopt this way of life, without being

too pushy?

Claudia, Gympie QLD

Hi Claudia,

When it comes to influencing your loved ones, I

believe in leading by example, it’s the most powerful

form of persuasion. Not only for my husband, family and

friends, but also for everyone I meet in life. When you

become an inspiration to those around you, they will be

more willing to join you on this journey.

QI have been training my butt off lately,

cardio, spin class, running, you name it! But

I just can’t seem to shake off the weight.

My diet is very healthy too, and I stick to around 1200

calories per day. It’s been months and I am still the

same weight. What do you suggest I do?

Hayley, Maroochydore QLD

Hi Hayley,

First things first, stop dieting and start nourishing!

Counting calories is risky business and can take the joy

out of healthy living. Listen to your body and nourish

it from the inside out! I would also suggest seeing a

nutritionist to get you on track.

QFirstly, thank you so much for building such

an incredible business and community. I’m a

16-year old girl, who just loves your product

(the brighter the better) and follows your social media

accounts, MNB blog religiously. My life ambition is to

become a fashion designer. I’ve started with just making

swimmers for my friends, but want to grow it further.

What tips do you have for young designers, like myself,

wanting to build a successful brand?

Mia, Malvern SA

Hi Mia,

It’s wonderful to see someone so young, so determined! I

would suggest, start by getting a job with a designer that

you really respect. Listen, learn and digest as much as

you can. With this knowledge, consider building your own

label. You’ll have a much better understanding of what you

want to do and how to get there. Be aware that building a

successful brand takes a LOT of hard work and dedication.

It’s the challenges that set apart the dreamers from the

achievers. So remember to trust your instrincts, follow

your dreams and most importantly, never, never give up!

QI’m a 45-year-old woman, with three kids and

a full-time job. I am proud to say that I bought

my first pair of tights from Lorna Jane and just

recently read all your books. I’ve got the gear and the will

to get started, but what’s my first step?

Annette, Glen Iris VIC

Hi Annette,

I’m so happy you’ve made the choice to start your

active journey. I attack my goals through my Active Living

philosophy. It’s easy when broken down into the daily

practice of MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE. This involves MOVING

your body every day, NOURISHING with healthy food and

BELIEVING anything is possible if you’re willing to work for

it. Each morning I set an MNB intention and commit to it. It

encourages me to stay motivated and inspired!
