Obituary

Larry was born February 11, 1950 in Kilgore, Gregg County, Texas to the parentage of James Maurice and Avis Neal Martin. He was the oldest of four children. He departed this life on January 11, 2019 at Christus Emergency Center in Kilgore, TX.

At an early age he united with Harmony Pirtle Baptist Church where he was a member of the Junior Choir and Junior Male Chorus.

He attended C.B. Dansby School where he enjoyed wood shop, football, and track. He was a member of C.B. Dansby graduating Class of 1968.

His working days started in the manufacturing industry of Kilgore Ceramics. He then was drafted in 1969 to the Army and returned in 1971 and then served two years in the National Guard. He then worked for Ryder until 1974 and then worked at Big D consulting until 1981. He then retired with a Military Disablement Status.

He had a spirited soul that enjoyed family gatherings. He enjoyed his “joy of life” which was Chip. He attended the baseball and football games as well as track meets throughout the years. He loved his grand kids and great-grand kids truly. Larry was a man of his word. He also loved playing dominoes and was known as “Mr. Domino.”

He was preceded in death by his parent’s, his sister Brenda Martin Johnson, brother’s Wyatt and Lowell Martin, and step-daughter Nina Durham Vinson.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Willie B. Martin of Overton, TX; son Lowell (Tatiana) Martin of San Antonio, TX; two grand-daughters Christanne Martin and Nhoa Martin; two step-sons, Robert Durham of McKinney, TX, and Kenneth (Kim) Bryant of Murphy, TX; step-daughter Betty Durham Tombs of Little Elm, TX. Special nieces Cossetta M. Johnson of Plano, TX and Avis Johnson of Longview, TX. Special nephew Lozak L. Johnson of Overton, TX. Close cousin Doyle Farste of Overton, TX. A host of grandkids, great-grand kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
