Ways from depression
INTERNET USE CAN HELP WARD OFF DEPRESSION AMONG ELDERLY Tom Oswald, Shelia Cotten
DEPRESSION is a serious health issue among older adults. Late-life depression affects ... nearly 8% of the aged population..However, new research ... found that Internet use among the elderly can reduce the chances of depression by more than 30 percent.“That’s a very strong effect,” said Shelia Cotten“And it all has to do with older persons being able to communicate, to stay in contact with their social networks, and just not feel lonely.”
In addition to bereavement, disability/health declines, and prior depression ....... risk factors for depression in older adults include social isolation, decreased social contact, and lack of emotional support...Using the Internet can help to reduce social isolation, loneliness, and depression, as well as enhance social support among older adults ...social contact, social connectedness, and greater satisfaction with that contact .
