Ac vi es Week 2017 ‐ Please read carefully Monday 17th July – Thursday 20th July – Ac vi es Week This booklet gives the details of the Farlingaye Ac vi es Week 2017. This is a fantas c opportunity and every student is expected to take part. Only in excep onal circumstances, granted by the Headteacher, will students be allowed to opt out. Please consider affordability when selec ng ac vi es. Wednesday 1st March and Thursday 2nd March – Op ons Forms Collected Please bring the a ached form to the dining hall between 8.45 and 9.25 with your selec ons. No one will be able to hand a form in before this me. Please select either – one 4 Day Ac vity, OR two 2 Day Ac vi es, (one to be chosen for Mon/Tues, one to be chosen for Wed/Thur). No money is required at this stage, final prices to be confirmed based on number of students par cipa ng. Students should be aware that in the event of an ac vity being over subscribed, they will be contacted and a second choice may be required. A le er will be sent home via their tutor confirming your child’s ac vi es, and required payment methods. Friday 5th May – Payment Deadline For most ac vi es the full, non‐refundable payment is required by 5th of May. (For ac vi es which ask for two instalments to be made, the first payment must be made by 5th of May, and the final instalment is to be made by 5th June.) As per the Pupil Premium policy, Pupil Premium cannot be used for Ac vi es Week. Payment is non‐refundable as ckets and transport need to arranged well in advance of Ac vi es Week. If payment is not made by the deadline your child may be removed from the trip. Behaviour Requirements Parents should be aware that par cipa on in Ac vi es Week is dependent on good behaviour throughout the school year. This includes both during the day and on the way to and from school. Students who misbehave may not be able to par cipate in Ac vi es Week but will be in school doing lessons. Ever fancied making an animated film? Now is your chance to give it a go! An opportunity to be creative and experiment with different animation techniques, such as traditional drawn animation, clay models, Lego figures or perhaps computer animation. You will have four days to try it out and make your own short film. You will need a digital camera, patience and a willingness to experiment. We are excited to be able to offer you a fun‐filled four days of dance. Day 1: Our first day will begin catching the train from Ipswich to London and ge ng the underground to the heart of theatre land, Covent Garden. We will be visi ng the famous Pineapple Studios in Covent Garden to take part in two dance based workshops led by Professionals. A erwards you will have the opportunity to have a Q&A session with the teachers to find out the ins and outs of the industry. We will then watch an evening performance of the new and ‘most an cipated musical of the year’, Dreamgirls. We will be staying overnight in London accommoda on. Day 2: We will head back to Covent Garden to experience a backstage tour of a West End theatre, being taken through the history of the theatre, alongside gaining access to front of house and backstage areas. Venue TBC nearer to the me but tours are offered at the Royal Opera House, Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Na onal Theatre and the London Palladium. Students will then have some free me in Covent Garden before catching the train back to Ipswich. Day 3: A full day at DanceEast in Ipswich which includes a tour of their facili es and a series of dance workshops to develop and inspire dance crea vity. Day 4: On the final day, we plan to bring our crea vity back to Farlingaye, with a series of in‐school workshops including Pilates, Zumba and an opportunity to try out some new dance styles. In the a ernoon you will have the chance to use everything that you have learnt over the last four days to choreograph your own piece. A lovely trip that involves students learning about their own well‐being and how to take care of themselves. The trip will involve a day trip to Norwich by train and then a day in school learning about and experiencing Indian Head Massage and Reflexology. They will also have the opportunity to get their hair and nails done and advice will be given to them regarding good skin care by a Body Shop representa ve. How much excitement can you handle? This is two days of fun packed ac vity. One day of paintball: play capture the flag for real in the village covered in smoke, trench warfare, a full ba le to the end or do you prefer the open all out adrenalin rush of concept in the field. The stealth of woodland and creeping up on the enemy, which is your favourite? But best of all try to shoot a teacher will you be the one to finally beat the teachers? This is without a doubt one of the best paintball centres around, do not miss this fantas c day. In addi on, if that was not enough, we throw in lunch as well. The other day is a one‐stop mul ac vity venue. How does the idea of rolling down a hill in a giant inflatable ball sound? Great, I know, but it is be er than you think. Alterna vely, how would you like to a empt to walk on water in another giant ball? How long can you stand up? Like speed? How about a giant zip or a fast paced mountain bike trail (new and improved), or a giant downhill slip slide? We cannot pack anymore into this day. This is always popular and spaces are limited. You must have your own fishing equipment, be experienced enough to set it up on your own and handle a caught fish. Two day ac vity cycling around the Suffolk countryside. On one of the days we hope to cycle to Aldeburgh and have lunch on the beach. The other day we hope to be cycling off‐road around Rendlesham Forest. You will need to be an experienced cyclist since we could be cycling up to 40 miles one day. You will also need to have a suitable bicycle in good working order and cycle helmet. We will be cycling from school each morning, se ng off by 9.30, and we will be returning bac to school by 3.30 in the a ernoon. The cost includes high‐visibility bib and ice‐cream/refreshments. On the Monday we will be in school baking a variety of tasty treats such as sausage rolls, scones and brownies. On the Tuesday we will be taking our treats to Cambridge for a very special picnic. We will travel from Woodbridge to Cambridge on the train and then walk down to the river to enjoy our picnic and the beau ful scenery. There will be some me for exploring Cambridge and shopping before returning to Woodbridge in the early evening. days we go out looking for interes ng pictures, images and views. In

Transform your finds into true original pieces by customising them with all sorts of beau ful ribbon, sparkly sequins, bu ons, flowers ‐ the list of possibili es is endless (don’t worry, fabric glue is also provided!). Day 2 Discover the excitement of scrapbooking‐crea ng personalised books about you ‐ for you, or perhaps it will be a gi ? Bring in your photos, old school reports etc. and access to the computers will allow some super images to be found. Poems and stories that are languishing in a box (somewhere…) can now find the perfect home ‐ or maybe write some new ones? If you love being crea ve and fancy trying something new or you are already an experienced cra er and want two solid days of unadulterated cra heaven, then this is the ac vity for you. Day 1: We will get the mini bus to Jars of Clay and learn how to paint onto clay. This will be a two hour session with a glass of squash and a piece of cake provided. We will return to school for 12.30pm and have lunch a er which we will learn how to crochet and have a go at crea ng some different shapes, sunburst and granny squares with some vibrant, so yarns. Day 2: Based in T1, the morning will be spent baking a batch of cupcakes to perfec on. A er lunch, a professional cake decorator from ‘Sweet thoughts for you’ will be running a two hour ‘Introduc on to sugar cra flowers’ session. We will learn how to create basic blossom and leaves which will then be used to top your cupcakes. We will learn about different colourings available and how to use modelling tools and use a variety of cu ers and veiners to create realis c blossoms and leaves. Each person will be given a presenta on box to take their crea ons home in.

This will be an opportunity to par cipate in various sports of your choice. A full list will be published later and you will need to choose then. This will include swimming and golf at the driving range. You will be expected to show an interest in the sports you choose and wear the correct clothing, as directed by the teacher in charge. There will be an opportunity to play, be coached, coach, judge, umpire, referee and improve your skills. Students will be invited to suggest spor ng ac vi es that they would like to be offered. This is a two day ac vity where we will spend the Wednesday in school watching a number of different movie musicals (TBC). On the Thursday morning, we will leave school early and take a coach ride to London where we will be dropped off at Covent Garden for a few hours shopping and then on to the ma nee performance of the popular West End Show, Aladdin.
