RESIDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The ballots are in!

As you may know, March was the election month for our new Res-ident council team. The ballots are in and we have a new Presi-dent, Vice President and Secre-tary. Please give a warm congrat-ulations to our President Daryl Tilton, Vice President Jayne Zurick, and Secretary Cathy

Fotia. They all look forward to representing Wood Ridge Assist-ed Living to the fullest. Instead of the traditional swearing in, the team and DeeDee were sworn in with a nice lunch at Applebee’s Restaurant to congratulate them as well. Good Luck.

Purrfect News with MaryOne of the secrets of cats is curiosity. They aren’t sneaky, nor dirty or evil. They are one of the cleanest animals there is and will seldom attack anything unless really threatened. And they are always curious and will get into something one way or another. Sneaky? No. To us it looks suspicious but to a cat, it’s like playing hide n’ seek. If it hides, they seek. One of my cats was determined that there was something under my floor and every night he would sit in one spot and watch. We never saw anything but he was adamant. Until next month.– Mary Benninghoff

The Hunt Is On! Easter Egg Hunt April 14th at 2pm

Please bring your kids for a friendly Easter Egg Hunt here at Wood Ridge Assisted Living. We will determine at a further date whether or not the hunt will be inside or out. If you would like to donate candy for the hunt, please see DeeDee. We can’t wait to see you here with us.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

Savannah UlmerWe would like to acknowledge our Community Liaison Savannah Ulmer as our multi taking Employee of the month. Savannah is the first face you see when coming into our community and she always greets you with a smile. Savannah is a great addition to the Wood Ridge Team while assisting all in every day duties. Congratulations and keep working hard on making Wood Ridge a great place to call home.

Volunteering is an incredibly fulfilling activity and can give new meaning to our lives.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons so many retirees find such great joy in volunteering. When we leave a career, we sometimes need a new enterprise to give us a sense of meaning in life. Finding a new sense of meaning and purpose is one of the major factors in aging successfully.

Volunteering in the community gives us many new opportunities, including the opportunity to:

• Help others

• Use our skills, wisdom, abilities, and knowledge in new and meaningful ways

• Enrich the lives of others

• Cultivate new social networks

• Learn new things

• Make the community and the world a better place

• Feel good about the ways we are using our time

There are volunteer opportunities all around us. Look and remain open to new ways to help others and make a difference in your community and our world. One of the most common ways to volunteer is to read to children, even if it’s just for a few hours per week. The rewards will far outshine your expectations.

ALCOHOL AWARENESS MONTHDrinking too much alcohol increases people’s risk of injuries, violence, drowning, liver disease, and some types of cancer. Many people may be looking for help but don’t know where to start.

The good news? We can all do our part to prevent alcohol misuse or abuse. Spread the word about strategies for preventing alcohol misuse or abuse and encourage communities, families, and individuals to get involved.

How can Alcohol Awareness Month make a difference?

We can use this month to raise awareness about alcohol abuse and take action to prevent it, both at home and in the community.

Here are just a few ideas:

• Encourage friends or family members to make small changes, like keeping track of their drinking and setting drinking limits.

• Share tips with parents to help them talk with their kids about the risks of alcohol use.

• Ask doctors and nurses to talk to their patients about the benefits of drinking less or quitting.

• We are all in it together. If you need further help please see any of the nurses here at Wood Ridge.
