Plans for the new Aquatic Center began in 2011 when our community wide survey asked residents about their desire for outdoor aquatic recreation as our old pool was deteriorating. The responses came back with a resounding YES and the planning began.

The pool hosts amenities that our patrons prioritized through the public input process. You will find a zero-depth entry activity pool with play features for little ones, a lap pool for swim team and lap swimming, a deep well for the ever popular diving boards, a drop slide and a climbing wall. Our concession stand serves a variety of choices including meal items, snacks, ice cream treats, slushies, fun foods and healthy options. The new bathhouse offers a family changing room and includes an all new Poolside Room which is available for parties, rentals and park district programs.

A much anticipated feature is the Splash Pad! The Splash Pad is included as part of the aquatic center during open swim, but it is FREE to the public weekday mornings during swim lessons and Saturday mornings during Free Swim. The Splash Pad will be free in the spring and fall of each year while the weather is still conducive to aquatics and when our capable guard staff has returned to school.

We are thrilled to report that the successful “Make a Splash” capital campaign has raised approximately $2.4 million to date. This includes generous pledges from donors, and gifts in-kind from many contractors on the project. There is time to participate and be recognized for years to come. Find out how you can Make a Splash by visiting our website and clicking on the “I Want to Make Splash” link.

Weather and construction permitting, we will open Memorial Day weekend for the 2016 season. Mark your calendar for our Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday June 11th with free admission and fun for all from Noon to 6 pm.

The Gators are in full swing this summer; join the team for benefits that will last a lifetime. Summer Camp is back again. Special events and programs galore are brought to you by the Geneseo Park District. Our scholarship program makes park district facilities and programs affordable for all. We are here for you! Remember to take time for fun,

“Let’s build a swimming pool and bathhouse in town!” said the guys who were swimming in the Hennepin Canal over 62 years ago. And they did.

“The children have learned to swim and enjoyed the swimming pool for over 27 years, but it is time to replace the aging structure with a new, larger pool. The bathhouse is okay, we can leave that,” said the families of Geneseo in 1979. And they built a replacement pool.

“The bathhouse is over 62 years old, the pool has lasted for 37 years but is not handicap accessible, our plumbing and electrical systems are obsolete and we have close to 19,000 visitors to the pool each year. Surveys in the community indicate tremendous support for the pool. Those visionary guys in the Canal knew the importance of a swimming pool in town. Let’s continue the legacy of an Aquatic Center,” said the people of Geneseo. “ We can open a new state of the art facility in May of 2016.” And they will.

MovinG SCulPTureSIt was Alexander Calder who invented the “Mobile” sculpture and introduced the world to a new art form in 1931. Mobiles are sculptures that move! While a mobile is constantly changing it must be designed to functi on in a changing and three dimensional world. Students will be challenged by the engineering that is required to keep their creati on in balance.
