CITEDI-IPN SPIE STUDENT CHAPTER
CITEDI-IPN Student Chapter was established in February 2013 by
students of the M. Sc. And PhD programs in Digital Systems at Centro
de Investigación y Desarrollo de Tecnología Digital-IPN (CITEDI-IPN),Tijuana, México.
OBJECTIVES
The main objective of CITEDI-IPN Student Chapter is to promote
research in optics and image processing inside and outside of our
research center. We are also interested to exchange ideas with
experts in fields of optics, digital image processing, and related areas, which greatly contribute in the development of our research work.
We contribute to increase the optics and photonics science and
technology community in Latin-America, giving simple efforts to foster
optics activities and motivate young people to become interested inoptics and photonics research.
ABOUT CITEDI-IPN
CITEDI, Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de Tecnología Digital, is a research and
development center of digital technology located in Tijuana, Baja California, a border citybetween México and the USA.
CITEDI is part of Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), one of the largest institutions of México.
The purpose of our institution is to develop, promote and transfer basic and applied research
to develop high-level technologies in the area of electronics and computing, and to trainhuman resources with graduate programs of excellence.

ACTIVITIES
SPIE OPTICS + PHOTONICS: LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP
We attended the SPIE Optics + Photonics Leadership Workshop in August 2016 in San Diego,
CA. This was the third time that our chapter collaborated with others chapters. It was a greatopportunity to increase our performance to manage our chapters activities.
We had the opportunity to meet wonderful people from all over the world. We learned howto manage our chapter and how to be productive in different areas of our careers.
SPIE OPTICS + PHOTONICS: POSTER AND ORAL PRESENTATIONS
This was the fourth poster presentation of our student chapter and it waspresented during the SPIE Optics + Photonics 2016.
Oral presentations were developed by some of our chapter members.
3D IMAGING TECHNOLOGIES WORKSHOP
We organized a workshop focused on 3D image processing and restoration
applied to engineering.
This outreach activity was aimed to promote science through teaching and
experiments to undergraduate and graduate students of engineering,
educators, and entrepreneurs of Tijuana’s community.
3D IMAGING TECHNOLOGIES WORKSHOP
The subjects of the workshop were:
Image restoration
Tridimensional image digitalization
Real-time GPU parallel processing
Digital design for 3D printing
3D IMAGING TECHNOLOGIES WORKSHOP
PROMOTION OF OPTICS: “SEMINARIO DE OTOÑO SOBRE SISTEMAS DIGITALES”
Chapter members presented at the annual seminar of autumn organized by CITEDI-IPN at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC)
PROMOTION OF OPTICS: “SEMINARIO DE OTOÑO”
Chapter members also presented science projects at the seminar of autumn
organized by the Center of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CICESE and CITEDI-IPN
BASIC SCIENCE AND ROBOTICS CLUB VISITS CITEDI
In this activity, we promote science and technology focused on optics basis, image and signal processing applications, in order to motivate elementary school kids into STEM education.
Chapter members showed several fun experiments to the kids. Applied optics was emphasized in this outreach activity.
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
The cost for attending to SPIE + Photonics was covered with the Officer Travel Grant for conference pass, lodging, registration fee and transportation.
