Exterior sun visorAn impressive new feature is the optically divided exterior sun visor above the windscreen (standard for long cab high roof). This provides the front of the Actros with very expressive contours. The continuous glare protection for the driver is naturally preserved.

Exterior mirrorsCompared with the predecessor model, the revamped exterior mirror design enlarges the driver’s field of vision. Two trim moulding variants are available: grey and the distinctive construction-type design of mirror moulding colour.

Front aerodynamic mirrorImproved driver’s sight and enhanced traffic safety since persons, animals and other obstacles located directly in front of the vehicle can be spotted earlier.

Eye-catching headlampsThe new, attractive headlamps are equipped with a separately exchangeable cover lens, which can be replaced inexpensively if necessary.

Swivel stepsCab swivel entry step manufactured from rubber elements.

Continuous lineThe new design of the front gate, trim grille and under-bumper spoiler emphasises above all the independence of the new Actros, and also clearly sets it apart from its predecessor.

Award-winning comfortAfter rigorous testing, the orthopaedic specialists awarded the Actros suspension seat their “seal of quality”, to promote spinal health through ergonomic product design.

Additional storage space – standard for long cab high roofAdditional storage space above driver’s door. This means that important items can be stored safely, but are still easy to reach at any time.

Towel holderNothing left out: located directly above the upper comfort bed, two 46cm long metal rails and two clothes hooks offer sufficient space to hang up wet clothes and towels to dry.

Shaving mirrorAn adjustable shaving mirror is provided in the storage compartment above the windscreen. The shaving mirror is fitted as standard in conjunction with top storage compartments with hinged lids.

Compressed-air gunStandard compressed-air connection on seat frame (back) for a standard air gun (approx. 6 bar). Includes spiral hose and air gun with aluminium nozzle.

Even more stowage space: the XXL bed boxExtremely large, illuminated and lockable outer stowage compartments are fitted underneath the bed on both sides of the Sleeper cab. These can also be accessed from inside the cab and are perfect for storing average-sized drinks crates, for example. The central stowage box under the bed is also extremely roomy.

Sunblind on side window driver’s door – standard for long cabsThe side sunblind can be adjusted for height and effectively covers almost the entire width of the window – operation manual. The sunblind is fitted to the window frame of the door and is guided by metal rods on the left and right.

Convenient and practicalThe driver’s seat can be folded down quickly and conveniently by means of the additional seat backrest release function in order to prevent the upper comfort bed from colliding with the seat headrests when it is folded down.

Radio/CD with Bluetooth Various mobile phones can be operated with the radio. Hands-free microphone integrated in the radio. Radio/phone functions operated via steering wheel.

Maximum seating comfort – the air-sprung driver’s suspension seat features height, inclination and depth adjustment of the seat cushion, fast lowering to facilitate alighting, stepless damper adjustment and integrated headrest. All operating controls are combined to form control units and are arranged ergonomically next to the seat area.

The ball-type air vent prevents the side windows from misting or freezing over, and provides a flow of cool air for the driver in the summer months. The illuminated switches for the central locking system, power windows, mirror adjustment and mirror heating system are exactly where you would expect to find them.

Cab

Heating, ventilation and climate control: prepare to be amazed and feel at easeAll cabs are fitted with manually controlled air conditioning as standard. If the unit is used in the heating mode, the air is dried and counteracts the windscreen and windows misting up from the inside. The air distribution function in the Actros works using a sophisticated system of air ducts and strategically arranged air outlets.

When needed: more space on the co-driver’s sideBoth the seat cushion and the backrest of the standard fitted regular seat can be folded out of the way to provide as much space as you need, for example to get changed. In the sleeper cab this also means you get a better view from the standard fitted bed.

Good driving starts with good seating

All seats in the Actros have been redesigned to meet

the special ergonomic requirements of day-to-day

operation. The comfortable, orthopaedically contoured

driver’s suspension seat supports safe, relaxed driving

even in severe terrain. Ergonomically designed controls,

extensive adjustment functions such as seat cushion

adjustment for height and angle, and steering wheel

adjustment, allow drivers to find their ideal driving position.

All seats are upholstered as standard with extremely

hard-wearing, easy-to-clean covers. Backrests with

integrated head restraints and three-point seat belts

ensure the utmost possible safety.

Up to 233% more stowage capacity tells you everything you

need to know. In the Premium sleeper cab with high roof,

the driver will find three spacious open stowage

compartments above the windscreen, hinged lids and

interior lighting. The inside surface of the stowage

compartments is lined with non-slip fleece material.

The open compartment underneath them on the driver’s

side is the perfect place for the extremely easy-to-use radio.

The gearshift lever on the Actros is fitted on the side

of the driver’s seat, on a fold-away console. It is positioned

so that all gear changes can be performed “at the flick

of a wrist”. Not only that, but the lever always remains

in the most ergonomic position whatever the position

of the seat. During breaks and rest periods the console

can simply be folded up out of the way – together with

the armrest – to create more room.

The Actros cab excels with comfortable, driver-oriented interior, with features including a comfortable driver’s seat, manually adjustable air conditioning and easy to reach controls. Plus, there’s many more practical, motivation-enhancing features to ensure optimum comfort.

In conjunction with the driver’s seat, the steering wheel adjustment range of up to 66 mm for height and from 13 degrees to 42 degrees for rake ensures optimal driving comfort. In addition, the 13 degrees parking position allows easier access and exit for the driver together with excellent cross-cab access.

The telephone, radio and driver information system can be conveniently operated using the keys on the multifunction steering wheel. There are also diagnostic functions and various onboard settings – from alarm clock to an auxiliary heater.

Real beds, part 1: the comfort bed

After a long, tough day at “the office”, there’s often just one thing that drivers crave:

a nice, comfortable bed. Even the standard lower bed in the Actros sets new standards,

with its single-piece foam mattress with an integrated, point elastic slated mattress

base. The outstanding removable mattress, which is also suitable for fitted sheets,

allows drivers to effectively take their own bed with them if they need to swap over to

a different Actros. The cab is fitted with a curtain which covers the side windows and

windscreen. The result is an exceptionally restful sleep, even during daytime hours.

Real beds, part 2: the luxury bed

At 83 cm in width and 232 cm in length, the dimensions of the luxury bed leave

little to be desired. The same is true of the contour-adaptive, AGR-certified, sprung

slatted frame. In combination with the high-quality foam mattress, it offers

optimum sleeping comfort. Its sliding support elements allow the slatted frame to be

adjusted to the weight of the user, whilst the cushioning can be set individually for

different areas of the body.

In addition to the improvement in sleeping comfort, the bed also offers the benefits

of having your own “personal bed”, with fitted sheets and, if you need to change

vehicles, you can simply remove the mattress and go.

The comfort top and lower bed are standard in premium cab, including level adjustment

on top bunk. The luxury bottom bed is standard in the long cab low roof cab with

adjustable head section on bottom bed. The fold up bunk is standard in day cabs

with seat back in forward position. All cabs with beds/bunks include curtains all round.

The comfort bed

The comfort top bed is now truer to its name than ever,

as it offers the added luxury of being able to smoothly

adjust the bed’s angle when parked on a slope,

making it perfect for a sound night’s sleep or for extra

stowage space.

A control panel is fitted on the side wall next to each

bed and can be used to operate the interior lighting,

radio and electrically adjustable tilting roof.

Flexible and extremely comfortable: the contour-adaptive

sprung slatted frame. When there is no weight on it,

the frame raises the mattress slightly,

providing optimum ventilation.

The luxury bed

Fitted as standard and exceptionally comfortable:

the luxury bottom bed now features a built-in,

height-adjustable head section. The broad, sturdy frame

makes the bed very comfortable to sit on too, whilst also

facilitating access to the stowage compartments

underneath it.

Engines

Thoroughly convincing: the Actros engine range

The durable and powerful V6 and V8 engines continue

to ensure that the proven Actros is as efficent and cost-

effective as possible. The engine range has benefited from an

extensive package of enhancement measures – significantly

raising engine output and torque, whilst keeping fuel

consumption low. The Telligent® engine system plays a central

role in achieving this. This proven electronic engine

management system adjusts the injection of fuel with extreme

precision to reflect the driving situation.

This optimised injection strategy, coupled with an injection

pressure of up to 1 833 bar, results in outstanding mixture

preparation and greater efficiency as a result.

The Actros engines have moved forward in terms of durability

too. Modifications to the engines ease the thermal load on the

pistons and thus ensure that oil consumption is reduced and

then kept at a constantly low level. The injection nozzles are

fitted with heat-insulating sleeves, which also help lower the

thermal load. In addition, these sleeves reduce the amount of

soot deposited in the engine oil - which brings us to the subject

of maintenance. Inlet valves and seat rings made from more

durable materials allow the valve setting intervals to be

extended. The crankcase breather with its improved oil

separator, plus the compact alternators and starter motor,

which have both been designed for a longer service life,

also help to reduce the maintenance work required.

And the resultant benefits for the Actros?

Higher performance and lower costs.

Multi-hole injection nozzles: lots of power, low emissions

The proven Unit-Pump System (UPS) is used in the Actros

for fuel injection. Each of the cylinders has its own plug-in

injection pump, which is driven by the camshaft and builds

up the required fuel pressure. The high injection pressure

guarantees fine fuel atomisation and homogeneous mixture

formation for efficient combustion.

For the sake of the environment

Environmental protection is one of our major corporate

goals. Accordingly, the measures taken for the

environmentally compatible production of our trucks

encompass the entire production process: saving primary

energy and reducing carbon emissions. In line with our

goals we have introduced engines which are compliant with

the stringent exhaust emission regulations.

Our Euro 3 engines provide further proof that environmental

compatibility and cost-effectiveness are not mutually

exclusive: unrivalled, low level carbon emissions,

particularly low particulate and fine dust emissions,

impressively demonstrate this.

Mercedes PowerShift Transmission

Just how confident we are of our further-enhanced

automated gearshift, Mercedes PowerShift, is plain to see

from the fact that it is fitted in the Actros as standard*.

It excels with optimised shift smoothness, fast gear changes

and low fuel consumption. The bottom line of all this is:

more Actros, more economy.

Mercedes PowerShift adapts the rotational speeds of the

main shaft and gear wheel by means of the electronic

engine or gearbox control. This dispenses with the need

for servo-lock synchronisation. A propeller-shaft brake

on the countershaft decelerates the rotating gearbox

masses when upshifting. When downshifting, the engine

speed is boosted to ensure synchronism of the

corresponding gear wheel with the countershaft.

* All Actros models, excluding tippers, concrete mixers and all-wheel-drive vehicles.

Telligent® Shift transmission

The manual 16-speed Telligent® synchromesh transmission

is standard for off-road and construction 6x4, 8x4 and 6x6

vehicles. This is because when running over tricky and

uneven surfaces, fully manual gear changing gives drivers

the greatest possible control. Particularly ideal in off-road

tipper and construction applications where road surfaces

can be uneven and gradients severe, the Telligent® manual

transmission reassures the driver with full gearshifting

control – but effortlessly. Telligent® autoshift transmission

is also available as an option.

selection up to 1 333 rpm using the accelerator pedal

when manoeuvring.

4 Rocking mode: simplifies driving on difficult ground.

5 Extension of cruise control function I (speed range):

offers an individually adjustable vehicle speed range

from 2 to 15 km/h between propulsion and brake cut

in. High-speed reverse gears: Allow higher speeds when

reversing. Direct first-to-reverse shift: Bypasses the

intermediate step via neutral.

6 Extension of cruise control function II (separate vehicle

speed memories): stores the settings for cruise

control/autonomous cruise control and limiter

separately, whereby the settings are preserved

when switching between functions.

7 “Driving position: Normal” switch: the normal driving

position can be restored easily, activated from

the cab by means of an integrated switch. This makes

the work processes for the driver much easier.

Mercedes PowerShift: a tangible increase in manoeuvrability, outstanding vehicle control, plus reduced fuel consumption. This is achieved due to a number

of measures, including gentler gear changes, shorter interruptions in power flow, as well as reduced pitching and rolling.

The HL7 axle is a proven axle model. Its ground clearance makes it particularly

suitable for construction vehicles. On the 3-axle and 4-axle vehicles the tandem

unit also features the well-tried HD 7 through-drive axle. All axles boast

extremely robust and reliable construction, and are designed for axle load

rating of up to 16t. The standard-fit differential lock and ASR ensures maximum

traction, even under difficult conditions.

Straight front axle

Standard on all steel suspension vehicles and air suspension Truck Tractors.

Unlike on the dropped axle version, the axle stubs and the axle body form

virtually one plane so that the ground clearance beneath the axle body

is significantly increased.

Frame, chassis, suspension

The innovative, robust and flexible chassis of the Actros

with its distinctive body-friendly and weight-optimised design

forms the basis for a very economically efficient vehicle.

The Actros is offered with steel and air/steel suspension

systems, which provide a complete set of cutting-edge

benefits, including roll resistance, precision road-holding

and high levels of ride comfort.

Load up easily, drive safely

The standard-fit Telligent® level control allows the frame

to be raised and lowered. In trucks with an air-sprung rear

axle, semi-trailers or interchangeable systems can be

attached and detached quickly and easily. The air

suspension offers yet more comfort. It enhances driving

safety, and preserves both the vehicle and delicate loads,

by continually adjusting the damper settings to the road

conditions, load and driving situation.

Parabolic springs

Steel-sprung Actros’ are equipped with weight-optimised parabolic springs

as well as precisely-adjusted shock absorbers and stabilisers. A special zinc-rich

paint protects the parabolic springs against corrosion, making the suspension

system especially durable and robust.

Illuminated operation of the air suspension

The remote control for the air suspension is now illuminated, which considerably

facilitates use in the dark. In addition to the permanent illumination, the selected

button also flashes briefly.

Axle–load compensation

This is a standard feature between the front axles of all the 4-axle vehicles.

Whenever the vehicle drives over an obstacle, the axle taking the most load

transfers some of the load to the other axle - thus protecting the suspension

mounting, steering system and tyres, as well as increasing ride comfort.

Axle-load measuring

The axle-load meter electronically detects the current individual axle-loads

of all air-sprung axles. Sensors in the air-sprung bellows determine the relevant

load values as soon as the air suspension has been moved to driving position.

The individual axle-loads are displayed. The displayed values are updated

automatically when loading and unloading.

Safety

Even better all-round safety

The Actros maintains its usual high levels of safety.

This includes the optimised positioning of the controls and

the large windows. All in all the Actros is equipped to offer

a high level of both safety and security.

Then there is the integrated brake system, which reacts

in an instant to hazardous situations to generate full braking

power. A feature also fitted as standard with the Telligent®

braking system is the hill-holder function, which helps

the driver by preventing the vehicle from rolling forwards

or backwards unintentionally, thereby making light work

of hill-starts.

When you’re braking, every centimetre counts:

Telligent® Braking System

That’s why all Actros models are fitted as standard with

the proven Telligent® braking system with ABS and ASR.

Permanent brake pressure of 13 bar and internally ventilated

disc brakes, or drum brakes, both which don’t lose any

effectiveness even after prolonged use, give the Actros

impressive braking power.

Drive more safely: Telligent® Proximity Control

The Telligent® proximity control optionally available on air

suspended vehicles allows more relaxed and safe driving.

The speed and gap maintained by the Actros is automatically

adjusted by the drive braking and cruise control as the traffic

situation changes. Distance to the vehicle in front is

automatically adjusted to the changing traffic situation,

without the intervention of the driver. In addition, the Telligent®

Proximity Control operates on the minimum distances

stipulated by law. The combined Cruise Control system fitted

as standard brings together driving and braking functions.

An extra eye on the road: Lane Assistant

The Lane Recognition system is permanently alert.

Its job is to warn the driver if the vehicle is about to venture

out of its current lane. In the event of this occurring,

an acoustic signal is sent through the radio loudspeaker.

This feature is standard on all air suspended and steel

suspended truck tractors.

Feel safer behind the wheel: Driver Airbag

The driver airbag is not only deployed when an accident

occurs, but the seatbelt is drawn as close as possible to the

driver’s body at the same time. This absorbs kinetic energy

and minimises contact between the upper body and the

steering wheel. It is standard on all Actros Truck Tractors,

and optional on Freight Carriers (excluding all-wheel

drive options).

Reduce the risks on challenging routes:

Telligent® Stability Control Assist

Telligent® Stability Control Assist maintains the stability

of the truck and trailer in difficult driving conditions. It reduces

engine power, applies the brakes on individual wheels of the

trailer being towed, activates the semitrailer braking system

and manages the braking of the entire vehicle combination.

It is standard on all air suspended truck tractors.

When you need backup: The Active Brake Assist 2

The Active Brake Assist 2 system detects hazards on the road,

and automatically applies the brakes accordingly. It assesses

the traffic situation in front of the vehicle, and even recognises

stationary obstacles in the truck’s path. It is standard on the

Actros 2658LS/33, and optional on all other truck tractors.

The headlamps on the Actros provide impeccable visibility in the dark.

The new clear-glass headlamps featuring internal free-form reflectors allow

the light to be directed to the best possible effect. The result is unparalleled

illumination of the road.

Grooved channels prevent clouds of spray

The redeveloped anti-spray element in the wheel arches helps to increase safety

by minimising the clouds of spray that often impair vision to a dangerous extent

on wet road surfaces, improving both visibility and safety for all road users.

Reverse warning device

Two-stage, two-tone warning device in the rear light unit,

which is activated when reverse gear is engaged.

Heating included: the exterior mirror

The exterior mirror heating function is activated if the outside temperature

drops below +2°C, and switched off again as soon as the mercury rises above

+14°C. The heating function can also be switched on manually

(e.g. after coming out of a truck wash or following a rain shower).

FleetBoard Service Evaluation ProgrammeVehicle

FleetBoard offers objective and comparative data from

each freight vehicle in the fleet, which provides an overview

of the operational performance of individual vehicles,

fuel levels and consumption as well as drivers’ work

profiles, which include evaluations and gradings.

In this regard, the fleet manager gets support to identify

causes of high fuel-consumption and to use these figures

to reduce costs of the entire fleet. Ensuring optimal flexibility,

maintenance and service information can also be called

up easily online.

· FleetBoard uses state-of-the-art technologies to provide

its services. The position of each vehicle can be identified

via satellite at any time. Data will be transmitted from and

to the vehicle using the latest mobile radio technology.

· The advantage is that wherever you have a mobile network

you will also have a connection to the vehicle.

· High performance computers in the European Data Centre

of Daimler/Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart assure the secure

and accurate processing of data. The data will be password

protected to the dispatcher via the Internet.

· In his vehicle, the driver is supported by easy to handle

technology and convenient navigation. The specially

developed vehicle devices can be updated by a remote

update via the mobile network, without the vehicle having

to be taken to the garage.
