For more than fifteen yearsRaytheon JPSCommunications has devel-oped technology to linkmobile radios, cell phones,SATCOM, and regular phonesin a single real-time commu-nication system. We are oneof the only suppliers to imple-ment VoIP/RoIPTM interoper-ability systems in the U.S. andother parts of the world.Because of JPS’ systems, police officers, firefighters,EMS, security teams, govern-ment officials, and militaryunits are communicatingseamlessly and efficiently incrisis situations. This makesthem more effective as firstresponders and defenders ofhomeland security.

JPS’ design experience, net-working expertise and proventechnology allow our cus-tomers to implement an inter-operability solution quicklyand affordably using existinginfrastructure and radio equip-ment. JPS offers a variety ofsystem configurations to meetthe demanding needs of firstresponders. Transportable, fixed site, mobile or widearea, JPS can configure a sys-tem to meet your needs, whether it’s nationwide, statewide, metropolitan, orrural. Primary application cat-egories are:

! ACU-1000:

All of JPS’ interoperabilityproducts have a commonbuilding block: the field-proven, unsurpassed ACU-1000 technology.

The ACU interfaces therequsite RF, landline tele-phone, and mobile phones bycross-connecting their respec-tive baseband audio into theACU. By converting communi-cations signals intotransmit/receive audio and itsaccompanying control signals, the ACU offers a rich set ofoperational features and widescale adaptability with virtuallyany audio device, existing, new and future.

To further extend the capabili-ties of the ACU technology,JPS has integrated its line ofVoIP/RoIPTM technology intothe ACU. The new availablemodules packetize the com-munications channels andtransport them across a wide-area IT backbone through theuse of VoIP/RoIPTM technolo-gy. This state-of-the-art tech-nology provides the means forregional, state, multi-state,and national interoperabilitysystems to be linked together.

! Local Interoperability

At a local level, first respon-ders are responsible forensuring real time communi-cation across multiple plat-forms with a moments notice.

They require an interoperablecommunications system thatprovides day-to-day insurancealong with meeting thedemands of large scale inci-dent management. The ACUtechnology meets this require-ment by providing a fast, reli-able and easy-to-use solutionthat can be deployed to anyon-scene incident.

With increased functionalityadded to the Digital SignalProcessor (DSP) and a moresimplified audio setup, firstresponders can arrive on thescene and within minutescoordinate their responseefforts with the surroundingagencies. This rapid deploy-ment capability, paired withthe means for expansion, makes the ACU-1000 the pre-ferred interoperability solutionfor local first responders.

! Regional Interoperability

JPS recognizes that emergen-cies are never predictable, aroutine call can escalate atany moment to a multi-countyor multi-state incident. Aninterstate car chase, a forestwildfire, or a widespread hur-ricane can simultaneouslyaffect multiple agencies inmultiple jurisdictions. Duringthese situations, a responseplan must be in place to pro-tect citizens and first respon-ders. To solve the most recog-nized problem plaguing inci-dent command and control, first responders rely on themost frequently deployedinteroperable communicationssolution - the ACU-1000.

The ACU-1000 has incorporat-ed IP technology to accom-plish a coordinated responseregardless of the geographicaland territorial boundries. The

added functionality of the inte-grated VoIP/RoIPTM featuresallow an ACU-1000 to bemonitored and controlledfrom a remote location, via anEthernet connection. Theeasy-to-use WAIS Controllersoftware provides an userinterface to make and breakaudio connections seamlesslyvia a new or existing IP net-work.

! National Interoperability

During times of nationalemergencies resulting fromacts of coordinated terrorismor other catastrophic eventssuch as large-scale naturaldisasters, homeland securityofficials should have the abili-ty to communicate with andcontrol onsite first respon-ders, local and federal lawenforcement, and other feder-al and state resources.

With the introduction of theACU enhancements, whichallow disparate radio systemsto be cross-connected androuted over wide area net-works, it is possible for feder-al agencies to remotely coor-dinate disaster responseefforts with multiple organiza-tions without compromisingefficiency.

A coordinated response couldbe easily performed from acentral, secure location usingreal time networks that suffi-ciently cover the United Statesas well as its territories andkey strategic intereststhroughout the world.

! Tactical:

For smaller, transportablesolutions, the ACU-T (PatentPending) has much of thefunctionality of the ACU-1000but in a smaller, more com-pact design.

This 8-pound portable unitsets up in minutes, featuresquick-lock tool-less connec-tors for each of its six inter-connect modules. The LEDdisplay provides an indicationof current connections oneach of the nets for simplifiedcommunication managementin the field. Much like theACU-1000 interoperabilitysystems, the ACU-T can becustomized to include anycombination of radio andphone modules and is fullyfunctional with VoIP/RoIPTM

technology. Unlike competitiveproducts, the ACU-T comesstandard with audio delay,DTMF control, digital signalprocessing and other featuressuch as multiple nets and aflexible configuration.

The ACU-T provides all of thefeatures that are available withthe ACU-1000, but in a smallrugged package that is suit-able for tactical or vehicularuse and rapid deployment. Italso provides drip-proof con-trols to ensure reliable opera-tion in challenging environ-ments, and features two DCinputs, allowing operators toquickly change batteries with-out a loss in power. Typicalapplications for the ACU-Trange from everyday emer-gency response to more tacti-cal applications such as

chemical spills, storm poweroutages or any incident wherea fast, rugged interoperabilitysolution is needed. The ACU-Talso provides smaller organi-zations with a means toaffordably achieve interoper-ability without the complexityof a larger system.

! Fixed Site:

Applications requiring a com-prehensive interoperability

system in a permanent instal-lation maybe best served in afull-scale fixed site implemen-tation.

Typically installed to achieveregional interoperability, thefixed site node, paired withexisting base stations andhigh powered radios, providesinteroperability for a widercoverage area. Due to thisdual chassis design, the fixedsite also has the capacity toprovide interconnect capabili-ty for up to 24 audio devices.

! Transportable:

The TRP family offers superi-or versatility, fast installation, and easy transportability toremote locations around theworld.

Our most versatile configura-tion option, the TRP-1000 fea-tures an ACU-1000 with 12audio devices packaged in aruggedized case that can beeasily deployed for on-scenerequirements.

! Mobile:

JPS’ mobile kits feature a fullyself-contained interoperablecommunication package thatcan be integrated into virtuallyany mobile platform, includingvans, buses, trailers, andHumvees. Designed to aidfirst responders in establish-ing effective incident com-mand, these kits combine theproven ACU-1000 with stateof the art cellular, radio, satel-lite, software and Internettechnology into a versatileand easy to use package.

The JPS mobile communica-tions kit is a new emergencyresponse paradigm developedin conjunction with incidentcommand veterans. The MCK-1000 is a first-on-the-sceneincident command suitedesigned to solve extraordi-nary and ordinary emer-gency/command problems.Easily integrated into anymobile platform by any vehi-cle integrator, the mobile kitsprovide the communicationsinteroperability needed toeffectively meet the demandsof on-scene incident manage-ment.

This mobile configurationoffers three installationoptions including the MCK-1000, MMK-1000, and thestandard ACU-1000.

! Wide Area InteroperabilitySystem (WAIS):

Building on the industry stan-dard radio interoperabilitygateway, the JPS ACU-1000Intelligent InterconnectSystem, WAIS uses VoiceOver IP (VoIP/RoIPTM) tech-nology to interconnect radiousers in widely separatedareas. From any point on thenetwork a user may configure, control and monitor any ofthe ACU-1000 units in thesystem. Via this standard IPnetwork technology, JPS sup-ports wide area communica-tions requirements, includingintra-state, state-to-state, andcoast-to-coast interconnectivi-ty and control.

Controlled by the JPS WAISController software, this con-figuration is designed toseamlessly connect JPS inter-operability systems over localarea networks (LAN), widearea networks (WAN) or theinternet. This enables usersof JPS’ ACU-1000 interoper-ability modules to intercon-nect between other JPS mod-ules to create WAIS networkssuch as statewide interoper-ability systems.

WAIS Controller gives usersof local JPS interoperabilitysystems an opportunity to linkwith other networks ondemand. Using existing infra-structures, including theInternet, interoperable radiosignals can be connectedaround the world, as if theywere right next door, withoutincurring user fees.
