How it all startedSometimes I think a profession
chooses you more than you choose a pro-fession. Almost like some sort of ances-tral livelihood is encoded in our DNA.
Any way, thats how it has been forme and the restaurant business. Even asa child, I recall the stirrings of a restaura-teur in my soul. My mother is a fantastic
cook and master gardener.She was always experimenting with
recipes and different ethnic cuisines.She took great pride in feeding her fam-
ily from her large garden. My Mother andGrandmother would cook, can, freezeand pickle everything in sight when thesummer harvest kicked in.
My father made wine as a hobby, andI fondly remember weekend trips to vine-yards to pick grapes for that years vin-tage. When I was about ten, I would makemy younger sister play restaurant.
My first real restaurant job was atthe age of 14, working in a seafood mar-ket and chowder house. From there Iwent on to work for some of the top res-
taurants in the Detroit area. Spending thir-teen of those years at Charleys Crab in
Troy working for Chuck Muer. My pas-sion for the food industry led me to openmy own restaurant, Victorias Delights in1997. We sure have evolved over theyears!
Our little deli/cafe has become a desti-nation for people wanting great food! Wepride our selves in being different. Wewalk the talk when it comes to local and
seasonal, due to our small size everythingis fresh and cooked to order.
It is true what they say about the res-taurant business; its one of the toughest.I have had my ups and downs over theyears. In spite of long hours and hardwork, weekends and holidays, my pas-sion for the hospitality industry has neverwavered. A
nd boy, have I been tested! For everynear catastrophe, there has been a puretriumph.
