Foreword

I must say a great big thank-you to Swervedriver, Adam

Franklin, and Toshack Highway. Your music has brought me

more joy than any other artist(s) I can think of.

This collection was created without the assistance or

permission of any of the original musicians. I cannot

guarantee the accuracy of these musical adaptations. They

were created by listening and watching the artists live, on

several occasions, and were greatly assisted by some video

bootlegs (thank-you to all videographers that like to film

the fret board!).

Most of the songs are adaptations of two concert bootlegs

made in 2000 and 2001, of Adam Franklin playing acoustic

guitar solo. However, there are a couple of songs that are

from Adam playing electric guitar solo, and at least one

adaptation of an album version of a song. The solo versions

often vary greatly from the band version, so beware.

Adam’s Favourite Chords

This is a summary of some of the most common chords used in

the songs within this document. The fingering given is the

common variety, but you sometimes may want to use alternate

fingering to make certain chord changes easier.

Tab Nomenclature

In this section I describe the nomenclature I will be using

to tab sections of the songs within. Most of what I am

using is fairly standard I believe, but just to be sure,

here goes:

The 6 strings of the guitar are indicated with lines as

below, with the topmost line corresponding to the smallest

(highest pitch) string.

1) The tuning of each string is indicated at the far left

of each line.

2) Vertical lines indicate bars, although I often do not

show every bar.

3) The beat is indicated underneath the tab. I tried to

accurately show rhythm wherever possible.

4) I will often mark the underlying chord above the tab.

5) A double line and colon marks a repeated section, colon

to the right of the double lines marks the start, colon

to the left of the double lines marks the end.

6) Lyrics are written underneath the tab.

7) A number on a string indicates which fret you should be

holding down for that string.

8) Hammer down is indicated by an “h”, for example 0h2

means that you pick the indicated string in the open

position, and then hammer your finger onto the second

fret. The opposite, a pull off, is indicated with a “p”.

9) Capo. Adam uses a Capo frequently. Whenever this is the

case, I indicate in the notes. However, I use the

standard chord names and tab fingering relative to the

Capo. (So Capo on 2nd Fret, A chord, is actually a B chord)

99th Dream (Swervedriver)

This is probably one of the hardest songs to play, and I do

not have the picked parts quite right, but it sounds ok,

and is really fun to play.

General Notes:

Standard Tuning, Capo on the 7th Fret. Adapted from an in store show at Soundscapes in Toronto. The song is in 4/4

time, but there are a lot of triplets, where each beat is

broken into three evenly spaced notes, so I write an entire

bar as: 1 2 3 2 2 3 3 2 3 4 2 3.

Duress (Swervedriver)

General Notes:

Tuned from low to high as GCDGCD. Adapted from an Adam

Franklin acoustic live bootleg (7/2/2001, The Fez, NY

City). Standard 4/4 time. Adam sings the intro guitar solo

that is normally done with the wah pedal.

Chord Diagrams:

Because of the alternate tuning, I will show the chord

diagrams for the chords used in this song, and give them

somewhat arbitrary names. Note that some chords are high up

the neck. I have indicated in bold the fret number at the

top of the chord diagram whenever it is not the end of the

neck.

the song, Adam sings some additional lyrics over the C4

this:

On “Angel” it switches to the Bb chord, and Adam plays the

entire into section again to close the song, finishing on

the C4 chord.

Then switch to strumming the following chords:

E A Asus4

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1 & 2 & 3 & 4

These chords are repeated as above all the way to the

bridge.

Verse and Chorus:

E A Asus4

Like summer's death throes London's arms around me

The world ends in West End sirens screaming unseen

The river frozen and the lions asleep

Up on the Westway watching people as sheep

Play the chords once in between the verse and chorus

E A Asus4

It's a long way away from it all

In my corner I sometimes feel nothing at all

It's the best way when the snow starts to fall

Play the chords twice between the chorus and verse

E A Asus4

Confetti falling down the drains of your dreams

Life in the fast lane never quite what it seems

In my corner I can walk cannot crawl

It's the best way when the snow starts to fall

Play the chords once more before the bridge

General Notes:

Standard Tuning. Adapted from a live bootleg of Adam

playing acoustic guitar (10/30/2000, Copenhagen). Standard

4/4 time. For the Copenhagen version, Adam uses a Capo on

the 2nd fret, but on another live acoustic version he does not use a Capo, so your choice.

Intro:

Repeat the below pattern once without singing, and then

sing the rest of the lines.

Every verse is basically played the same, but sometimes

Adam throws in a C chord for the last two beats of the 1st or 2nd line of each verse, instead of just the Em riff. He also plays an extra bar of the Em riff after some of the

verses. I have indicated this below.

G Em

In one dream there's this girl I love

G Em C

And we dance every wakin' breath

G Em

And in the other they've thrown me in a cell

C Em X2

And they're tryin' me for her death

G Em

I'm only young and young in love

G Em C

As I hold that girl today

G Em

But I'm old and tired and in the cell

C Em X2

And I've nigh on withered away

Bridge:

Play the intro again, but skip the first time through, so

you only play it 4X, all with the “Ooh”s. Note that the

extra line, which contains two bars of the C chord.

Outro:

On the last line of the last verse, Adam sings “scream” an

octave higher, and moves right into the falsetto “Ooh”s

like in the Intro. “Scream” replaces the first “Ooh ooh”,

so it goes like this:
