A TOAST TO TOST:

HAYDN QUARTETS OP. 54

TUESDAY, SEPT. 10, 7:30 PM

The Haydn Quartet Slam continues with Haydn's

delightful Tost Quartets, which are Haydn's

masterful opus 54 quartets #2 and #3, plus the

Frog Quartet.

Program:

Op. 50 #6, Frog Quartet, D major

Op. 54 #2, C major

Op. 54 #3, E major

Written for the virtuoso violinist and friend of

Haydn's - Johann Tost - these Op. 54 quartets

feature florid and virtuosic writing for all four

parts - truly a conversation between four musical

voices. Haydn's Frog Quartet Op. 50 #6, is the last

quartet of a set of six dedicated to King Friederick

Wilhelm II of Prussia. The D Major quartet is the

most light-hearted and jovial of the set. The

"frogs" make their appearance in the finale. The

nickname comes from a string technique used in

the movement called bariolage, which results in a

frog-like sound. Trinity Presbyterian Church,

CULTURAL ARCHITECTURE

OPENS FRIDAY, OCT. 4, 4 – 8 P.M. This exhibition investigates the relationship

DAVA youth ages 3 to 17. The exhibit opens to

the public Friday, Oct. 4, from 4 - 8 p.m., with a

reception and screening of short films created by

DAVA students with the Colorado Film School.

integrate cultural practices and priorities in their

designs. Some will create blueprint drawings and
