5. What is the number of ducts to be installed? 2 or more?

Minimum 2 ducts are required

6. There is a requirement for 2 cables of 48 and 96 core - G.655 and G.652. The duct requirement is 50/40mm. What is the rationale for such a big duct? Can we propose more cost efficient solution? In which case, how many spare ducts would be required?

7. On the NMS - What is the current NMS in use today? What kind of integration is required? Is it mandatory requirement that the current NMS must be integrated with the proposed one? Who is required to do the integration (existing NMS vendor or the supplier of the proposed NMS)

9. You have 2 cables of nominal diameter of about 10-12mm and each requiring 50 metre coils. Size of the manhole is only 1000mm depth. The space is not sufficient for closure and the required slack lengths. Concern: This will be unmanageable.


10. "The Joint Hand-holes are planned to be placed in such a way as to have cable sections of approximately 5Km". In the table you have sections of 7km in some places, clarify what a section refers to here? Is it a continuous cable without jointing? or is it a length which may have a joint?


11. You have specified a minimum trench width of 400mm for a duct of 50/40mm. Is ploughing/use of rocksaw forbidden?

If yes, please explain what informs this decision.


12. Soil stabilization chemicals are not normally used in fiber optic network construction in Kenya. Please provide examples and brand names of acceptable stabilization chemicals.

13. Please specify the number of CPEs and their locations? Where are the Access routers & Wi-Fi equipment being used? What is their number? Are these classified as CPEs?


14. The interfaces of the Access routers and Wi-Fi equipment require support for ADSL, GPON, EPON, G.SHDSL and many other protocols. This kind of CPE cannot be found in the market. Could you provide an example or a brand name of a router that supports all these protocols?

15. Only blowing/pulling is specified in the tender document. Is floating of the cable not allowed?


16. All fibre terminations and jointing will be done by fusion splicing methods such that the signal attenuation at each connector and joint is less than 0.06 dB and 0.03 dB, respectively, at 1310 nm and less than 0.07dB and 0.04 dB at 1550 nm.

17. The average loss for all joints in any one fibre link (from one Core substation to another Core substation or one OFC repeater to another) shall not exceed 0.12 dB. The above requirements are inconsistent. If maximum splice loss allowed at each joint is 0.03 dB, the average loss for all joints in the link must be less than 0.03 dB (The average value of any data set is greater or equal to the minimum value in the set and less or equal to the maximum value). Furthermore, your spec of max splice loss at 0.03 dB is unrealistic but the average loss (0.12 dB) is OK. Was there an error here and did you mean to write 0.3 dB for max splice loss (more realistic). Similarly for connector loss. Do mean 0.6 dB or 0.06 dB?

19. Description: Interfacing with NOFBI will require to install a LDX card(Huawei interface card ) in the existing DWDM rack of NOFBI II for 40Gbps capacity. Please confirm the ICTA will procure and install this interface card. Alternatively, please provide a prime cost sum to be used by all bidders to cover the cost of this item.


20. 3.2 Average Annual Construction Turnover Minimum average annual construction turnover of US$ 16 million calculated as total certified payments received for contracts in progress and/or completed within the last four years. 30. Both the 48 Core and the 96 Core OFC cables will be deployed in sections that can be either Underground or Aerial version (if applicable). Both versions (for the same core size) will have the same Fiber Optics specifications, changing only in the laying qualities of the cables. The following tables include all the proposed lengths of each type of cable for both the Main backbone along the road and a sample of access drops to each subscriber may the above list remain as mentioned, however, the maximum length of Access spurs must be optimized to a maximum of 200 Km while the main route cables is estimated to be 747Km. Along the main road, the route civil works are being built by KENHA hence the FOC will be only blown by the bidder. The remaining
