Dear Mr. Vavra:
In response to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) comments to theRemedial Investigation Report for the Hunterstown Road Site, Westinghouse ElectricCorporation and Paul C. Rizzo Associates, Inc., designed, installed, and sampled fiveadditional monitoring wells at the Hunterstown Road Site (Figure 1). The projecteddepths and well locations were approved in your letter dated December 14, 1991 toMr. Tim Basilone.
The additional monitoring wells (HMW-15BF, HMW-20AA, HMW-20AB,HMW-21AW, and HMW-21BF) were drilled and installed from January 6, 1992through January 16, 1992. The monitoring well locations are shown on Figure 2. Acopy of the monitoring well installation details and the boring logs for each well isattached. The methods utilized in monitoring well construction were in accordancewith the USEPA approved Sampling and Analysis Plan and Quality Assurance ProjectPlan-Revision 1 (QAPP).
The five additional monitoring wells (HMW-15BF, HMW-20AA, HMW-20AB,HMW-21AW, and HMW-21BF) and nine other monitoring wells associated with DrumBurial Area 1 (HMW-9AW, HMW-9BF, HMW-15AW, HMW-16AW, HMW-16BF,HMW-17AW, HMW-17BF, HMW-20AW, and HMW-20BF) were sampled. Thesampling of the wells was performed by Paul C. Rizzo Associates personnel fromJanuary 27, 1992 through January 29, 1992. As you are aware split samples were also

collected from monitoring wells HMW-20AA, HMW-20AB, HMW-21AW, and f HMW-21BF by the USEPA oversight consultant. The wells were sampled inconfer mance with the QAPP. The ground water samples collected were analyzed forvolatile organic compounds on the Target Compound List utilizing CLP protocol. Theattached Table 1 contains a summary of the analytical results from the monitoring wellsampling.
It is Westinghouse's understanding that this submittal fulfills item number 4 outlined inyour December 14, 1991 letter to Mr. Tim Basilone. Also, with this submittal,Westinghouse has provided all of the information that you requested in this letter, andthat the Hunterstown Road Site remedial investigation is considered completed andunconditionally approved. Please contact Mr. Basilone if you have any questions onthis submittal.
