Additional Museum Shed Details
At the special meeting held Wednesday 17th November, Councils requested additional information on the specifications supplied by Auspex Steel, Murchison Carpentry and the Shire of Mount Magnet. The following information has been obtained. Auspex Steel Main Support Columns: Hot Dipped Galvanised I Beam with full footing cage and 150mm footing bolts. Trusses: Galvanised Box RHS. The construction has 7 m spans between main support columns and the purlins are 200 mm and are 1,400 mm apart. Cladding is 0.47 TCT (Total Cladding Thickness) ie includes coating thickness. It should be noted that Auspex Steel has indicated that there may be saving on the concrete works as they where unaware of the local contractors and sourced their price from a Geraldton supplier Murchison Carpentry Main Support Columns: Back to Back C Section (C25019), partition columns Back to Back C Section (C25015) or 100 x 100 x 4 duragal posts, see ek=mail below for further details. Trusses: Apex and knee brace, C Section (C20019) or 75 x 75 x 2 duragal top and bottom chord trusses. The construction has 4.6 m spans between main support columns and the purlins are 1,500 mm apart. Cladding is 0.42 BMT (Base Metal Thickness) ie does not include coating thickness. Shire of Mount Magnet Main Support Columns: Back to Back C Section (C40032) see diagram below. Trusses: Trusses not used, apex and knee brace, Z Section (Z40032). The construction has 5.25 m spans between main support columns and the purlins are 1,200 mm apart. Cladding is 0.42 BMT (Base Metal Thickness) ie does not include coating thickness.

See how quickly & professionally your commercial & Industrial building can be constructed, with the high quality, easy to follow step by step construction manual you can build it yourself or speak to your local Ranbuild man who can organise highly professional & experienced construction teams to take care of if for you. Note that the below information is only intended as a brief outline of the basic steps required to assemble a commercial building. Site preparation, concreting and erection of steelwork are best done by qualified and licensed tradespeople. Contact your Local Accredited Ranbuild Dealer who can arrange an experienced building erector for you.
All construction sites and shed erectors should comply with the occupational health and safety requirements and your local Work Cover authority. The National Occupational Health and Safety website is a good source of information and includes links to Work Cover and other associated websites.
After the slab has hardened, assembly of steelwork may begin. Start by standing the side wall columns attached to the hold down bolts cast into the slab.
Assemble rafters in pairs and fit the purlins between the rafters in every second bay. Keep an eye on the roof pitch and allow for deflection in accord with the erection manual.
Lifting must be done with a crane, two or more may be required on large span buildings. Use spreader bars to prevent distortion of the roofing section.
Special care must be taken with end bay roof sections that will have end wall columns fitted later. Temporary support may be required until columns are fitted.
Lift the roof panel into place, taking care not to distort the connections or members. Notice how some wall girts have been added to stabilise the structure.
Line up the rafters with the columns and begin bolting them together. All bolts must be TIGHT as per instructions in the assembly manual.

Continue connecting the roof panel to the side wall columns. Prepare and locate end wall columns onto their holding down bolts before standing.
Stand and connect end wall columns before removing the crane from the roof panel. Check deflection to maintain level ridge line before proceeding.
Using the crane and spreader bars, lift the next roof panel ( bay three) into place. Attach knee braces and tighten all bolts in accord with the assembly manual.
Proceed to the next roof panel and lift it into place. A scissor lift or mobile scaffold will aid with the connecting of panels, intermediate purlins and knee braces.
Continue the process of completing every second bay until reaching the end of the building, then add intermediate purlins and girts before commencing cladding.
Install roof, skylights and wall cladding in accord with the assembly manual. Wall cladding may need to be cut to shape or size around windows, openings and doorways.
Install sliding or roller doors as per the suppliers instructions. Prepare and install windows, access doors or other options as per the Ranbuild assembly manual.
With the building at lock-up stage, power, lighting or internal lining can be safely installed. Don't forget to add the Ranbuild sticker for identification of quality.

Please be aware on the west steel quote it still states Cranage but this it to be supplied by yourselves The prices are as follows Electrical $ 14,525.00 Shed Kit $ 87,285.00 Construction $ 39,820.00 EWP $ 3,000.00 Sub Total $144,630.00 GST $ 14,463.00 Total $159,093.00 The original Budget Estimate $184,952.27 Which offers you a saving over Budget $ 25,859.27 including GST I am trying to confirm that we can have the shed delivered by Christmas as the erection team has a three week window in January to construct the shed
PAGE 12
I have spoken to the electrician and he is available for the last week in January so he will be welcome to use our EWP while we are still on site to do any height work required As you can imagine this time frame and work flow is essential to make this job run smoothly and to keep as much money in your possession as possible Regards Chris Astill West Steel Sheds Pty Ltd

From: Chris Astill [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, 18 November 2010 4:54 PM To: Ashley Dowden Subject: Specs on our shed Ashley The previous email had pictures attached of a shed we have just completed it is 25m wide 72m long 6m high with 4m bays Just a few thing on our shed
We would be using C40032 on all columns and rafters with Z40032 apex and knee braces on the clear span portals
This shed is designed with 5.25m bays using top span 120mm x .9mm
End wall portal frames made from C40032
The apex and knee plates are two pieces of 3mm plate laminated with Twenty M20 Bolts
Base plate is 10mm hot dipped Galvanized with Ten M20 bolts
We use only .42BMT on roof and walls not .35BMT (make sure you don’t mistake this with)
All our Purlin and girts are at a maximum spacing of 1200mm
We use a bottom roller for sliding doors Just had the client of the shed in the pictures come in this morning and tell me he has to put a pad bolt on the doors for when they are open as they roll that easily that the wind blows them closed and they are 4m wide and 5m high, I have also had the same feedback from another one of our customers, I can honestly say this is not a very common complaint that other shed companies get They say that all cold rolled sheds are the same I can guarantee they are not ours are a far superior product Just as a comparison if we followed the engineering to the letter we could supply the same shed using
All clear span columns and rafters C30030 with knee and apex braces made with C25024
All end wall portal frames made from C25024
We would use the same top span but the spacing could go out to 1700mm
Use .35BMT on walls
Use twelve M20 bolts on knee and apex plates
Use four M20 bolts on hold down plates
Use the old sliding door system (we all know how hard these are to operate I haven’t tried to price this job using the above but I have no doubt that I could drop $10000 to $15000 off the price I build these shed constantly in the North West in Wind Region D which is the worst wind region in Australia
