Manufacturing in the Digital World

• Companies in every vertical are driving digital transformation. How does your company compare?

• Heightened customer expectations, new digital realities, more disruptive competitors and new models and ecosystems are upon us. Manufacturers must transform their execution and go-to-market models to succeed in the new digital world.

• But how do they fare?

Carbon DLS Technology – Adidas Futurecraft 4D

• Carbon and Adidas have pushed the performance function of footwear to a new level with the launch of Futurecraft 4D. The newly launched shoe has precisely digitally tuned functional zones within the midsole. Notice how the midsole has different lattice structures in the heel and forefoot, to account for different cushioning needs for these parts of the foot while running.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion –(LaserCUSING, DMLS, SLM, DMP)

• In a typical LPBF process, a laser beam scans across a thin layer of metallic powders, and locally

melts the powders through to the layer below. There are many highly dynamic and transient

physical phenomena involved in the process because of the extremely high heating and cooling

rates e.g. melting and partial vaporization of metallic powders, flow of the molten metal, powder

ejection and re-distribution, rapid solidification, non-equilibrium phase transition, etc.
