Tips for Fall Leaves and Pumpkin Disposal

What do to with “Jack” when Halloween is over?1. Recycle Jack in your existing Green

Cart.

2. Have Jack for dinner—consider pureeing and freezing the pumpkin for

baking or cooking as long as it’s within the first 48 hours of carving. Visit www.foodnetwork.ca for recipes.

3. Compost Jack in home compost bins—worms like Jack finely chopped and mixed with yard trimmings in backyard compost bin or in a patio vermicompost bin; the worms will help create a nutrient-rich compost.

4. Return Jack to his roots—dig a trench in your vegetable or flower garden. Shred Jack and disperse and cover with soil. Jack will compost and break down and leave nutrients into the soil.

Tips for proper disposal of fall leaves and trimmings1. Compost leaves and yard trimmings in backyard

compost bins. Bins are available for purchase from the City for $25 at the Richmond Recycling Depot (5555 Lynas Lane).

2. Recycle leaves and trimmings in your existing Green Cart or paper yard waste bags.

3. Drop-off leaves and trimmings at Richmond Recycling Depot or Ecowaste Industries.

Tips to prevent localized flooding1. Please do not rake leaves from your property or

boulevard onto the sidewalk or street. Put leaves in your existing Green Cart or drop-off at Richmond Recycling Depot.

2. Remove leaves and other debris away from the road drains/storm sewer grates to keep a clear path for water to drain.
