Why a disinfectant with long-termeffect ? Why Bacoban® ?

With Bacoban®, the primary objective was to develop asurface disinfectant that not only disinfects but alsoguarantees a long-lasting effect until the next disinfection.What an improvement considering the fact that for decadesthe innovative power in the field of disinfectants was rathermoderate! The fact that the project now came up with aneffect that lasts up to 240 hours, which is a total of 10days, was a complete surprise not only to us, but to allindependent test labs and health facilities engaged intesting Bacoban®.

The consequence of these unique research results is notto change hygiene plans automatically and to performdisinfection only every 5 or 10 days, but rather to utilisethis advantage to the benefit of patients, staff membersand to improve infection control. But it actually does notmake much difference whether the lasting disinfectingeffect of Bacoban® against bacteria, fungi and virusescovers 3 or 10 days. The real benefit of such a disinfectant,if integrated into established disinfection plans, is thatit ensures a significantly higher safety against the spreadingof germs and viruses, thus reducing re-infection. Iteffectively closes the hygiene gap!

This is exactly what Bacoban® was developed for:to improve safety between the individual disinfectingsteps and to give people a new tool in the control ofgerms and viruses.

How work Bacoban® ?

Conventional disinfectants are effective immediately -but only for a short period.Micro-organisms are only killed during the few minutesof the duration of the active period. After that, when thedisinfectant has evaporated, the area treated is againsubjected to microbial strains.Until the next disinfection,a hygiene gap results, in which there can be a repeatedsettlement by micro-organisms.

Results according to ASTM E 2180:the assessment was done in comparison of an untreatedceramic test surface with one treated with Bacoban®.

Disinfected surface

Bacoban® establishes an ultra-thin film with a lastingeffect. The technology used here is the sol-gel processthat develops a solid gel phase on the basis of a liquidphase. The biocides used to kill germs are embeddedin the porous structure of the developing sponge-likesol-gel and are washed out again when coming intocontact with water (bacteria, enveloped viruses andfungi are always surrounded by a water shell).

Bacoban® inhibits formation of smells

Bacoban® significantly contributesto odour control, particularly in sanitaryfacilities. The very unpleasant odoursdeveloping in that area are caused by

bacteria.These "metabolise" the ureacontained in the urine to formammoniac (acidic odour).The regular application of Bacoban® tosurfaces prevents micro-organisms fromaccumulating there. Thus, unpleasant odourscannot develop any more. This is an enormousadvantage particularly in institutions wherepatients have problems with bed-wetting andfaecal soiling.
