WHAT IS AN ADJECTIVE?• An adjective is word or phrase naming an attribute, added to or
related to a noun that modifies or describes something• Examples- Yellow, small, tan, awesome, courageous, etc.
• What kind is it? • John knew that the fuzzy green bread would not make a appetizing sandwich.
• How many are there? • The class had sixteen boys, but only eleven girls.
• Which one is it?• The tall, delicious, creamy milkshake was really good.
Adjectives describe nouns by answering what three questions?
TYPES OF ADJECTIVES• Proper-an adjective that is typically capitalized, derived from a proper noun
• Compound-A compound of two or more attributive words
• Possessive- an adjective that is used to show ownership
• Demonstrative-adjectives that are used to modify a noun so that we know which specific person, place ,or thing is mentioned
• Interrogative- an adjective that describes and qualifies nouns, and also asks a question
• Descriptive- Can be classified into different categories such as color, size, sound, taste touch, shape, time, personality, and age
• Indefinite- Gives indefinite, or general information
SENTENCE EXAMPLES
• Proper- The Canadian girl went to Niagara Falls.
• Compound- The thirteen-year-old boy was happy to be a teenager.
• Possessive- My head gets woozy when I climb your ladder.
• Demonstrative- That car is from this dealership.
• Interrogative- How many boys are in the class?
• Descriptive- That lady had long, green hair.
• Indefinite- There are many boys in the classroom.
