ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

❖ Minimum marks for admission to the unreserved seats in all M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. course of studies under Faculty Councils of Science & Arts is 50% at the Honours level in the concerned/relevant subject as regular course of studies. For candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC-A/ OBC-B/ DA/ SP categories, eligibility is minimum of 45% marks in honours in the concerned/relevant subject.

❖ No candidate having obtained graduation/ post graduate degree from an Open University or through Distance Education Mode is eligible to apply for admission to any courses of post graduate studies.

❖ Eligibility criteria for admission to PG Course of Studies in different multidisciplinary such as Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Geospatial Sciences, Statistics, Women’s Studies, MLIS, Mass Communication, MBA, MBA (Tourism Management), MBA (Human Resource) and M.Ed. (Fresher), LL.M., M.P.Ed., M.A. in Hindusthani Classical Vocal Music and M.A. in Rabindra Sangeet, are given below: -

1. Environmental Sciences: Science graduates (10+2+3) having 50% marks Honours in Env. Sc. / Microbiology / Botany/ Chemistry/ Zoology/ Physics/ Geography (with a B.Sc degree)/ Geology/ Physiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry and B.Sc.(Agri.) Hons. (10+2+4).

2. Biotechnology: Honours in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Physiology with a minimum of 50% marks having pass subjects like Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physiology.

3. MPEd: Regular B.P.Ed. or B.P.E. course with a minimum of 50% marks. There is no reserved seat for OBC-A and OBC-B candidates in M.P.Ed. Course of Studies.

4. Geospatial Sciences: Honours with Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, Geography, Forestry, Wildlife Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Agriculture, Oceanography, Marine Sciences, Bioinformatics, Fisheries Science with 50% marks in Undergraduate.

5. Women's Studies: Regular Honours Graduates of any recognized University who have done the three-year Hons. Course in History, Pol. Sc., Philosophy, Sociology, Economics and Languages with minimum 50% marks.

6. MLIS: Regular Hons. Graduate with at least 50% of Marks in any subject.

7. Mass Communication: Any Regular Hons. Graduate with at least 50% of Marks. The Candidate must secure minimum 20% marks in PI.

8. MBA Programmes [MBA, MBA (Tourism), MBA (HR)]: Regular Honours Graduates of any recognized University who have done the three-year Hons. Course/B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm./MBBS etc. with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates having valid score card in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT may claim exemption from written test. They may appear in GD and PI directly. The candidates having no valid score card in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT will have to appear the Written Admission Test positively. The candidates having valid score card in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT may or may not appear in the Written Admission Test and in such cases the higher marks of the candidate, obtained either in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT or in the Written Admission Test to be conducted by The University of Burdwan will be considered. The Candidate must secure minimum 20% marks in GD and PI separately. In all cases, the merit list will be prepared on the basis of the marks of the candidate obtained in GD and PI and the marks obtained by the candidate either in MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, GMAT, and JEMAT or in the Written Admission Test to be conducted by The University of Burdwan. There are no reserved seats for OBC-A and OBC-B candidates in MBA Programme.

9. M.A. in Hindusthani Classical Vocal Music and M.A. in Rabindra Sangeet:

Honours graduate in Music with a minimum of 50% marks.

10. Statistics: Honours in Statistics or Mathematics with minimum marks of 50%.

11. M.Ed (Fresher): Regular B.Ed. Course with a minimum of 50% marks.

12. LL.M.: Regular 3 Years or 5 Years LL.B. Course with a minimum of 50% marks.

PROCEDURE OF SELECTION:

On the basis of Honours Marks for the Pass outs of B.U. Students

60% of the total intake of seats will be reserved exclusively for the pass-outs from the Under- Graduate Colleges affiliated to the University of Burdwan. Admission to these seats will be offered strictly on the basis of marks secured in the concerned Honours subject. In case of the uniform score in the concerned Honours Degree, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Higher Secondary Examination is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. If the percentage of Higher Secondary marks is also same, percentage of Secondary Examination will be considered for ranking. If, at all these stages, performances of more than one student are found to be same, then final decision regarding selection of candidate will be referred to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BU.

On the basis of Admission Test

Remaining 40% of the seats will be filled up through written admission test from the applicants of the University of Burdwan and the applicants from Other Universities. In case of the uniform marks in the written test, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Honours Degree

is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. In case of the uniform score in the concerned Honours Degree, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Higher Secondary Examination is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. If the percentage of Higher Secondary marks is also being the same, percentage of Secondary Examination will be considered for ranking. If, at all these stages, performances of more than one student are found to be same, then final decision regarding selection of candidate will be referred to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BU.

STAGES OF ADMISSION:

FIRST PHASE

❖ First phase is the form filling by the applicants. The online application fee for all the courses is Rs.300/-. Application fee for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/ DA/SP candidates is Rs.150/.

❖ After the completion of form filling, interviews will be held for the DA and SP candidates respectively in the University where their eligibility will be verified on the basis of relevant documents. Candidates who will fail to establish their eligibility will be treated as belonging to Unreserved category only and they will have to pay the balance amount of Rs 150/- through online portal.

STEPS FOR ADMISSION FOR HONOURS CATEGORY (60% SEATS)

❖ Broad Merit List for BU candidates will be published.

❖ Counselling will be held for admission for 60% category on the basis of Short Merit List that will be published alongside the Broad Merit List.

STEPS FOR ADMISSION FOR WRITTEN CATEGORY (40% SEATS)

❖ Written Test for 40% seats.

❖ Broad Merit List for 40% category seats will be published.

❖ Counselling will be held for admission for 40% category on the basis of Short Merit List that will be published alongside the Broad Merit List.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE:

Candidates will be called for counselling and admission based on the basis of their ranks in the

merit lists. The selected candidate will have to report for counselling and admission at the

GOLAPBAG CAMPUS of THE UNIVERSITY OF BURDWAN as per the programme notified

along with the merit list. The merit list will be available in the university website

(www.buruniv.ac.in).

Candidates shall have to bring along the documents and testimonials mentioned below at the time

of admissions:

➢ Original and photocopy of mark-sheets of all public examinations passed.

➢ Original and photo copy of birth certificate/ admit card of Madhyamik or equivalent

examinations.

➢ Original Schedule Caste / Schedule Tribes / OBC-A/ OBC-B/ Differently Abled/ Sports

certificate issued in favour of the candidates. Relevant Certificates must conform to West

Bengal Govt. Memo No. 1813-BCW/MR-94/11 dated 20th June, 2011.

➢ Rank card, which is available in the online admission portal.

➢ Printed copy of Application form, to be downloaded from online portal before moving to

the page for payment of application fee.

➢ Students have to submit an affidavit sworn before the Notary Public within the 15

days of admission in their respective departments to the effect that they would not take

part or incite any activity of ragging failing which they are liable to be expelled. The said

undertaking should be countersigned by respective guardians.

➢ Once documents verification is confirmed, within given time period candidates need to

pay the respective fees online.

➢ Once verification is confirmed, ‘Online Admission Fee Payment’ link will be visible in the

online portal. Candidates are advised to pay the respective admission fees through online

and print the voucher copy.

➢ If any candidate does not pay the admission fees within the stipulated period, then the

admission of that candidate will be terminated and will completely exit from admission

procedure.

➢ Admission will be confirmed for those candidates who pay the necessary admission fees

within the given time period.

The list of official authorities whose certificate will be considered for different categories of

reservations is mentioned below:

Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribes:

Reservation for SC/ST candidates for admission will be as per reservation rules vide Govt. Order

No.: 07-Edn (U)/1U-89/13.- dated. 2nd January, 2014 “for admission to different courses, an

SC or ST candidate getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination;

qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of the marks obtained by the last candidate

of the general category.” Relevant Certificate must conform to West Bengal Govt. Memo No.

1813-BCW/MR-94/11 dated 20th June, 2011.Candidates claiming reservation against SC/ST and

OBC-A/OBC-B(relevant certificate is required) quota of seats must submit relevant caste

certificates issued in their favour by one of the authorities listed below:

• Deputy Collector of Land Revenue,

• Kolkata Collector of Stamp Revenue,

• Kolkata Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata,

• Addl. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata,

• Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata,

• 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate,

• Executive Magistrate,

• Sub-Divisional Magistrate,

• Sub-Divisional Officer,

• Deputy Collector,

• Addl. District Magistrate,

• Collector and District Magistrate within their respective jurisdictions in case of candidates

claiming to be Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe and ordinarily residing within such

jurisdictions.

OBC-A & OBC-B:

Reservation for OBC-A/OBC-B candidates for admission will be as per reservation rules vide Govt.

Order No.: 07-Edn (U)/1U-89/13.- dated. 2nd January, 2014 “for admission to different

courses, an OBCA or OBCB candidate getting admission should have obtained in the

previous examination; qualifying marks not lower by more than 10% of the marks obtained

by the last candidate of the general category.”. The West Bengal Higher Educational Institutions

(The Reservation in Admissions) Act, 2013 enacted by Govt of West Bengal has opened the

opportunity for the students belonging to OBC-A and OBC-B (as determined and notified by

Backward Classes Welfare Department, Govt. of West Bengal) for reservation of seats in higher

education in the state. The communities listed by the Department of Backward Classes Welfare,

Govt. of West Bengal as OBC-A and OBC-B would get the benefit of reservation.

Differently Abled

The candidates seeking admission under this category must produce a valid certificate issued by

an appropriate authority not below the rank of Superintendent of Sub-Divisional Hospital. In the

certificate, the mentioned extent of Physical Disability must not be less than 40%. Candidates

claiming reservation against such quota, shall have to personally appear before the Medical Board

constituted by the University on 28.05.2019 at 12 NOON in the Deptt. of Sociology, BU, Ground

Floor, Composite Arts Building, Golapbag, B.U. with all relevant reports and certificate in original

for verification of their eligibility under this quota. If the candidate claiming reservation under DA

quota fails to appear before the medical board on the stipulated date and time with relevant

documents, he /she will be treated as a general candidate. APPLICANTS WHO HAVE SECURED

LESS THAN 50% MARKS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED IF THEY FAIL TO QUALIFY FOR THE SEATS

UNDER THIS CATEGORY.

Sports

Sports quota will be available only for the candidates who are pass out of the University of

Burdwan seeking admission under 60% category. Candidates seeking admission against Sports

(SP) quota of seats must have to submit certificates for their participation in National or Inter-

University Sports and Athletic competitions (not earlier than Madhyamik level) and physically fit

for representing the University team in AIU Games as per AIU norms. Candidates who claim

reservation against Sports quota, shall have to appear personally or through his/her authorized

representatives before the Board on 28.05.2019 at 12 NOON in the Kadambini Ganguli Memorial

Hall, 3rd Floor, Composite Arts Building, Golapbag, B.U. with all relevant certificates of performance

in original for verification of their eligibility under this quota. If the candidate claiming reservation

under Sports category fails to appear before the board on the stipulated date and time with

relevant documents, he /she will be treated as a general candidate. If in the SP category more than

1 (One) candidate qualifies then the ranking in Sports quota will be made on the basis of higher

marks obtained in the Honours Level. APPLICANTS WHO HAVE SECURED LESS THAN 50% MARKS

WILL BE DISQUALIFIED IF THEY FAIL TO QUALIFY FOR THE SEATS UNDER THIS CATEGORY.
