SEPTEMBER 16LEARNING TO DRIVE (2014)With Patricia Clarkson, Ben Kingsley. Directed by Isabel Coixet. A recently dumped Manhattan woman takes control of her life and learns to drive so she can visit her daughter in upstate New York. Her driving lessons are with Indian cabbie Kingsley in this entertaining comedy/drama. 105 min. Rated R

OCTOBER 21BRIDGE OF SPIES (2015)With Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan. Directed by Steven Spielberg. A Brooklyn attorney negotiates a prisoner swap of Rudolph Abel for U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers. Outstanding historical drama that captures the tensions of the time and successfully depicts the Cold War in Berlin. 103 min.

OCTOBER 28THE INTERN (2015)With Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Adam DeVine, Rene Russo. Directed by Nancy Meyers. A seventy-some-thing retired successful business-man and widower gets dragged back into the contemporary computer and cell phone fueled workplace at an online fashion website. MARCH 24THE CARDBOARD BERNINI (2013)With artist James Grashow. Directed by Olympia Stone. Artist Grashow created sculptures out of corrugated cardboard that are left outdoors in the elements to slowly disintegrate, “Ashes to ashes, mush to mush,” comments Grashow. Engrossing documentary on the creative process. His work is now on display in the Flinn Gallery through April 26. A Friends “Double-Feature.” The Gallery is open until showtime. 78 min.

In 1913 self taught Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan traveled to Trinity College, Cambridge, where over 5 years he formed a bond with his mentor G.H.Hardy and fought against prejudice to reveal his genius to the world. 108 min.

APRIL 7IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (Hong Kong-2000)With Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Maggie Cheung Man-Yuk. Directed by Wong Kar-wai. Moody tale of unrequited love as seen through the lush eyes of sumptuous film noir color camerawork. A story of infidelity, sort of, set in 1962 Hong Kong where adjacent apartment dwellers struggle with their innermost feelings and let the viewer fill in the blanks. Directed by Michael Grandage.Explores the working relationship between Scribner's famous literary editor Maxwell Perkins and irrepressible writer Thomas Wolfe as they crafted Wolfe’s classic 1929 Look Homeward, Angel together. In his 47th film Woody Allen revisits his fondness for Hollywood nostalgia following a young Bronx man who moves to Hollywood in the 1930s to work for his uncle, a powerful agent. Isabella Rosselini narrates an unfolding story of gentiles who helped Jews who sought refuge in Northern Italy after the German occupation in 1943 during the Second World War. Particularly singled out are the quiet courageous deeds of Tour De France champion Gino Bartali. 93 min.

Follows pop singer Amy Winehouse from her heady steady climb to success followed by a dizzying downward spiral and death at age 27 from alcohol poisoning. There’s plenty of blame to go around but in the end Tony Bennett placed her among the ranks of Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin. 128 min, Rated R

FEBRUARY 3THE GREATEST EARS IN TOWN: THE ARIF MARDIN STORY (2010)With Arif Mardin. Directed by Joe Mardin and Doug Biro. As a part of Greenwich Library’s celebration of Black History Month we present a portrait of the legendary music producer at Atlantic Records who worked with Bette Midler, Aretha Franklin, George Martin, the Bee Gees...and more. Followed by a jazz concert on Sunday Feb. 5 at 3:30 p.m. with Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, arguably the most recorded drummer in history performing with his quintet. 104 min.

Drama based on true events with black athlete Jesse Owens struggling to overcome racism at home and abroad in his inspiring journey to the 1936 Berlin Olympics. His victories deal a blow to the Nazi plans to make the Games a celebration of Aryan supremacy. 134 min.

MARCH 3HITCHCOCK/ TRUFFAUT (2015)With Alfred Hitchcock and Francois Truffaut. Directed by Kent Jones. Documentary based on a 1962 week-long meeting between these two directors. In the book that followed, Hitchcock divulged all about his successful films and his talent for creating suspense. Flash forward to the present and this film brings alive their meeting, augmented with interviews of other famous directors. Fascinating. 80 min.

MARCH 10I KNEW HER WELL (IO LA CONOSCEVO BENE) (Italy-1965)With Stefania Sandrelli, Nino Manfredi, Ugo Tognazzi, Jean-Claude Brialy. Directed by Antonio Pietrangeli. Rarely seen film. A young country woman with acting aspirations gets caught up in the tempestuous temptations of La Dolce Vita in the big city. One of the generation defining Italian films from the mid-Sixties. MARCH 17YOUTH (2015)With Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Jane Fonda, Paul Dano, Rachel Weisz. Directed by Paolo Sorrentino.
