ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS To be considered for admission, your results need to satisfy the minimum entry requirements, and you have to meet the physical (such as vision and hearing)
and health requirements of the various courses. Applicants with medical conditions are advised to consider their choice of courses carefully. In the interest of
general safety, admission to the courses is at the discretion of the polytechnic.
Selection of a successful applicant will be based on academic merit.
You may be required to attend an interview or an entrance test (or undergo other tests), if deemed necessary by the polytechnic.
Diploma Courses for Singapore GCE ‘O’ Level Holders To be eligible for consideration for admission to our three-year diploma courses, applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements as shown in Table 1 on
page 11 of this section based on results taken at not more than two sittings of the Singapore GCE ‘O’ Level examinations.
Applicants must also meet the requirements for aggregate computation and obtain 26 points or better for the net ELR2B2 aggregate score.
Selection Procedures The selection of applicants for all courses except Nursing is based first, on merit and second, on the order of choice of courses. For the Nursing course, applicants
who indicate this course as their first choice in Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) will be granted priority posting, i.e. they will be posted to their first choice –
Nursing, provided they meet the entry requirements and obtain 28 points or better for the net ELR2B2 aggregate score.
The ranking of applicants for all courses will be based on the net aggregate score, ELR2B2 which stands for:
ELR2B2 = English Language (EL) + 2 relevant subjects (R2) + 2 other best subjects (B2).
Relevant Two (R2) Subjects The sets of relevant subjects for the courses are shown in Table A on below. Any one of the subjects in the first and second groups taken together will count for
the two relevant subjects (R2).
Best Two (B2) Subjects The best two subjects refer to any other ‘O’ Level subjects, including those in the two groups of relevant subjects which have not been counted as relevant
subjects.

Application Procedures Which admissions exercise?
There are various ways for you to apply to enter a polytechnic. It’s equally important that you apply for the desired course via the right channel to maximise your
chances. Understanding the various admissions exercises and identifying the one that best matches your educational credentials will help you select the right
exercise.
Here’s a quick summary of the five admissions exercises. For all exercises except Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE), applicants must not have any previous
enrolment with a polytechnic:
Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) For whom?
Current or previous year’s GCE ‘O’ Level holders1
Joint Polytechnic Admissions Exercise (JPAE) For whom?
ITE Higher NITEC and NITEC holders, including final-year ITE students and students admitted to ITE under the Direct-Entry-Scheme to Polytechnic
Programme (DPP).
Early Admission Exercise (EAE) For whom?
For students registered to sit for the GCE ‘O’ level examinations in the year of EAE and final year ITE students who are applying for a place in the polytechnics
and who have:
A strong aptitude and interest for a specific course and/or
Talents in areas such as leadership, community service, entrepreneurship, arts and sports
Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE) For whom?
Holders of GCE ‘O’ Level with foreign nationality1, holders of GCE ‘A’ Levels, holders of international qualifications.
Former or current polytechnic students.
Applicants who do not hold the relevant qualifications to apply for admission to full-time courses under JAE and JPAE.
Polytechnic Foundation Programme Admissions Exercise (PFPAE) For whom?
Eligible students of the current year’s Secondary 4 Normal (Academic) cohort will be invited to apply.
1 Foreign students who sat for the GCE ‘O’ Level exams as private candidates or who have previous year’s GCE ‘O’ Level results are to apply through DAE.
National Service Applicants who have gained admission but are serving National Service (NS) can have their places reserved until the completion of their NS, provided they inform
the polytechnic and submit their enlistment letters before the start of the academic term. Places can be reserved only if applicants are admitted to a polytechnic
course for the first time.
The polytechnic reserves the right to discontinue any class, alter courses, course curricula and requirements, as well as amend fees and any other information
without prior notice.
International Qualifications
Holders of the following qualifications may apply for admission to the full-time diploma courses, provided they meet the course entry requirements as shown in
Tables 1 and 2 on pages 11 and 28 of this section. The admission of applicants is at the discretion of the polytechnic.

# Short-listed candidates with these qualifications may be required to take an entrance examination in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Overseas candidates must make their own travel arrangements to and
from Singapore if they wish to sit for the entrance examination. TOEFL or IELTS scores may be used to supplement applications. However, they do not automatically exempt a short-listed candidate
from the entrance examination.
^Candidates may be considered for direct entry to the second year of selected 3-year courses. Please refer to Table 2 on page B17 for entry requirements.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS At NP, international students enjoy the full Ngee Ann experience. To help make this happen, International Student Services has been set up under the Student &
Alumni Services Office. It provides administrative support to cater to the needs of international students and organises programmes/activities to help these
students assimilate, adapt and integrate into local community in Singapore. Student & Alumni Services Office can be contacted via email: [email protected]
Settling into Singapore Relocating from one’s home country is a big step, and international students may experience some challenges adjusting to their new environment upon arrival.
They also have to pay attention to issues such as immigration and accommodation matters, alongside learning about life in Singapore. The Student & Alumni
Services Office will help international students settle in by providing them with caring and personalised services which include counselling, assistance on tuition
grant, hospitalisation and surgical insurance. International students are encouraged to actively participate in the programmes and activities organised by the
International Students’ Club. They are welcome to take up an organizer role in the International Students’ Club too.
Tuition Fees & Tuition Grants International students are expected to pay the full tuition fees of about S$22,000* per year for a full-time diploma course, subject to annual revision. Students
may apply for tuition grant to subsidise for their costs of education at NP.
Tuition grants are provided by the Singapore Government through the Ministry of Education (MOE). Students who successfully applied for the subsidy are
required to execute a Tuition Grant Agreement with the Government of Singapore, in presence of the two sureties (preferably their parents) and the witnessing
staff. The surety is a person of any nationality, aged above 21 and below 64 years of age and must not be an undischarged bankrupt. Under the terms of the
Tuition Grant Agreement, students are required to work in Singapore for three years upon graduation. The subsidized tuition fee (tuition fees after deducting
the tuition grant) is S$5,892* and S$10,528* (Singapore permanent residents and international students respectively) per annum, subject to annual revision by
the MOE.
The polytechnic will provide guidance to international students in their applications for the Tuition Grant. The students must complete the execution of the
Tuition Grant Agreement within the timeframe set by MOE. Otherwise, students would have to pay the full (non-subsidised) tuition fees. Please refer to the
MOE TG online website for the timeframe of the polytechnic.
*Denotes approximate tuition fee amount based on 2018 rates; figures are revised annually and are subject to change by the Ministry of Education, Singapore.
Immigration International students are required to apply for a student pass upon admission to the polytechnic. Without a valid student pass, students will not be able to
commence study in Singapore at NP. Please refer to the website for the e-enrolment for more details.
Accommodation
When planning to study abroad, accommodation is a key factor to consider. There are different types of housing in Singapore to suit different budgets and
requirements. Students will need to make their own accommodation arrangements or ask their guardians to help them with these arrangements. Wherever
possible, accommodation arrangements should be made prior to arrival in Singapore.
Estimated Living Expenses The following is a guide on the monthly estimated cost of living in Singapore. The actual cost might vary depending on a student’s requirements and
expenditure.
Items Average per month in S$
Accommodation $400 - $1,000 (depending on location, facilities and number of students sharing room etc.)
Utilities (including water and electricity) $50 - $100 (Not applicable for hostel stay)
Food $400 - $600 (Based on canteen and food court)
Public Transport $50 - $100 (with student concession pass on MRT and public buses)
Telecommunications $30 - $60 (varies with usage and promotional packages subscribed)
Books & Stationery $30 - $100 per semester (varies across the different courses)
Personal Expenses $100 - $300 (varies with spending habits. May include expenses on haircut, clothes, toiletries, entertainment, miscellaneous)
Total per month (estimated) From $1000
Group Hospitalisation & Surgical Insurance The polytechnic has arranged for Group Hospitalisation & Surgical Insurance with Mental Health Rider (GHSI & Rider) to make hospitalisation expenses more
affordable for full-time international students. With the GHSI, international students are not required to put up cash deposit at B1 class rates for hospitalisation
in government and government-restructured hospitals in Singapore.
