BC Grades used in UBC Admissions Average

Semestered, quartered, or self-paced courses:

• Grade 12 courses (in-person or DL) completed by February 1. Grade source = Ministry of Ed portal.

• Final grade from an equivalent Grade 11 course if the course is in-progress (Semester 2). Grade source = Ministry of Ed portal.

Linear courses:

• In-progress Grade 12 courses following a structured linear timetable (i.e. courses start in September and end in June). Grade source = school report card (generally T2 grades sent to Ministry)

• This includes structured linear-calendar courses offered via Distributed Learning.

BC Admissions Update New for 2015: IB Students

• Waiving Physics 11 requirement with 5 or higher (final) in IB Math and IB Chem.

• IB Diploma applicants who do not meet program pre-requisites within the IB Diploma.

• Additional consideration for Higher Level Math and Higher Level English.

• Ab initio IB language certificates meet the Language 11 pre-requisite for Vancouver campus.

• Admission decisions on anticipated grades no longer consider the three additional points.

BC Admissions Update New for 2015: Adult Grad Diploma

• BC Adult Grad Diploma minimum age requirement now 18

• Secondary school applicants must write the BC English 12 Provincial Exam to be considered for UBC admission even though the exam is not required for the diploma

• English 12 Provl Exam grade will be used if it increases the applicant’s admission average. If a significant discrepancy exists between the course grade and exam, UBC reserves the right to use the exam grade only.

We wish we could admit everyone… But then we would over-enroll and classes would be over-full.

2014 BC High School Applicant “Pool”: • 10,388 applications • 9,476 completed applications (self-reported) On average we offer admissions to approximately 53% of completed BC High School applications. So expect approximately 5,000 admits Our BC High School registration rate is approximately 66%. We over-offer to meet our enrolment targets Note that some programs are more competitive. For example, BCOM receives 4,500 year 1 applications for 500 year 1 spaces.

large number of waitlisted candidates do not receive offers of admission, and

we encourage you to make alternate plans accordingly.”

Note: We may make additional offers before June 20, but not

many.
