Slide 5 - Enhancements Overview

Slide notesIn this presentation we will show you how the new features in Release 11 help your project managers better manage the project plan and budget.

As you begin planning for your project, you will be able to efficiently plan and manage the resource assignments on your tasks. The enhancements combine multiple user tasks into a single activity to deliver a lean and effective user experience.

Once you have finalized the project plan and intend to create a budget, you will experience a much simplified budget creation process. The reduced number of steps helps a project manager focus on the core aspects of project budgeting without worrying about unnecessary details. Even if you do your primary project budgeting in an external system, we have got you covered! You can leverage the budgeting web service to integrate any external system with Oracle Fusion Project Control.

If you are migrating from an external system to Oracle Fusion Project Control and need help in migrating project forecasts, you can use the Microsoft Excel based data loader. The data-loader allows you to move multiple project forecasts at the same time. And it is so simple to use, you will not need any technical assistance!

If your organization requires specific access to create nonbillable tasks, it can be controlled by leveraging a new security privilege.

Slide 6 - Enhancements for Managing Financial Project Plans

Slide notesWith the usability enhancements made to financial project plan, you can more easily and efficiently manage resource assignments on the financial project plan.

While planning for your project, you can assign multiple planning resources to tasks and also specify quantities for each individual resource and task combination.

As you execute the project, you can easily update the quantities for resource assignments across multiple tasks. In the Manage Financial Project Plan page, you can select one or more tasks and open the Update Planned Quantities for Selected Tasks dialog box. All the resources assigned to the selected tasks will show up in this dialog box, and you can update the quantities as needed.

As you manage your financial project plan, your project may incur actual costs from unplanned resources. When you convert the unplanned resource to a planned resource you can now select how you want to distribute the quantities associated with the unplanned resource.

Slide 7 - Streamline Budget Creation User Experience

Slide notesAs you move ahead in your project life cycle, you will experience our simplified budget creation process. We streamlined budget creation to provide more default information and enable you to create budget versions in fewer steps. All required settings get defaulted from the financial plan type. The number of steps required to create a budget has been reduced, so that a project manager can focus on the most important aspects of project budgeting.

Slide 8 - Create Budgets from External Applications with Web Services

Slide notesOracle Fusion Project Control provides a wide variety of service operations to automate integration with external applications to easily create project budgets. You can create project budgets by defining amounts at the periodic level for each plan line in the budget, or by defining amounts at a the plan line level directly. You can create a project budget as a working version or set it to baseline.

Slide 9 - Create Forecast Versions with a File-Based Data Loader

Slide notesProject administrators and project managers will be able to create forecasts in the Oracle Fusion Project Control using a Microsoft Excel file-based data loader without the need for any technical assistance. It can be used to bring in legacy data from other applications into Oracle Fusion Project Control.

You can specify the forecast details using the Microsoft Excel workbook, load it into the interface table, and then import it into the application.

The application will validate the data during import.

Slide 10 - Enhanced Control for Creating Nonbillable Tasks

Slide notesOrganizations can control the ability to create a nonbillable task using a new security privilege for better control over project revenue and profitability.

You assign this security privilege to project managers to allow them to create nonbillable tasks.

Organizations can create a new custom role to restrict the ability to create a nonbillable task. A user assigned with the custom role will not have access to the security privilege. The user will not be able to create a nonbillable task or mark an existing task as nonbillable.

You have access to several efficient tools that simplify your day-to-day work across both project planning and project budgeting. The focus of the enhancement is to provide you with a more engaging and intuitive experience.

If you do your project budgeting in an external system or if you intend to migrate your project forecasts to Oracle Fusion Project Control, there are simple tools to extend the existing functionality.

The budgeting web service provides a simple way to integrate and automate the budget creation process from any external application. This allows you to perform basic project budgeting in an external application and yet utilize Oracle Fusion Project Control for advanced financial management.

The Microsoft excel file-based data loader delivers business value and lowers the total cost of ownership. It provide a simple and familiar way to import data into Oracle Fusion Project Portfolio Management without the need for implementation specialists or technical assistance.

New features in this release enhance the usability of day-to-day operations. Project managers can assign resources more easily, update resource assignments and have more flexibility while converting an unplanned resource to a planned resource. They can experience a more streamlined budget creation process with a simplified and reduced number of steps.

Project managers who do their primary project budgeting in an external system can leverage the project budget web service to create and maintain budgets in Oracle Fusion Project Control.

Project administrators can import multiple project forecasts using the file-based data loader while migrating legacy data from external applications.

An additional security privilege provides organizations enhanced control over the creation of nonbillable tasks. This helps in managing project revenue and profitability.

The features Enhancements for Managing Financial Project Plan, Streamline Budget Creation User Experience, Create Budgets from External Applications with Web Services, Create Forecast Versions with a File-Based Data Loader and Enhanced Control for Creating Nonbillable Tasks are all automatically available after upgrade, they can be accessed using shipped job roles, and there is no setup needed. There is an optional setup that is available for Streamline Budget Creation User Experience if the default setting needs to be modified.

Slide notesThe streamlined budget creation process reduces the number of steps required to create a budget. The budget creation is streamlined by defining a default financial plan type in the Manage Financial Plan Type setup task.

You can only set a single financial plan type as the default financial plan type. You must also define a budget creation method that must be used when the application create a budget using the default financial plan type.

You can use any of the three budget creation methods:

1) Manually create budget lines

2) Generate from another source

3) Define source at creation

The first two options, ‘Manually create budget lines’ and ‘Generate from another source’, will take you directly to the Edit Budget page while creating a budget version.

The feature “Enhanced Control for Creating Nonbillable Tasks” is controlled via the privilege ‘Manage Project Task Structure for Nonbillable Tasks’.

The security privilege is already assigned to the project managers. They have the access to create a nonbillable task.

If project managers have to be restricted from creating a nonbillable task, the access to the privilege will have to be removed by creating a custom role without this privilege.
