pet isn’t helping himself/herself to leftovers or getting into the garbage. High calorie holiday offerings can mean upset stomachs later.

Decorations can be attractive for your pet. Make sure that valu-able ornaments are not at a level that might entice your pet. Trimmings such as tinsel and garland can seem interesting for your pet to eat, but can wreak havoc on a digestive system.

Changes in your schedule or in the frequency of visitors can con-fuse your pet. If you don’t normally

have visitors, don’t expect your pet to automatically match the rise in your social activity. If your dog or cat seems bothered by visitors, be sure to provide them with a quiet, familiar place where they can relax and aren’t forced to interact. If you do have social pets, have your visitors help reward good behavior by reinforcing good manners such as greeting people with all four paws on the floor. You can do this by having pet treats available for people to pass out, but only when your pet does things that get him put on the nice list.

Make sure that you take some time to spend time with your pet. The holiday season often leaves us rushing around trying to accomplish a multitude of tasks in an incredibly short period of time. Interactive cat wands are great ways to help entertain your cat. Dogs can benefit from a bit of creativity on our part. Games like hide and seek or practicing recalls up and down a staircase can allow your dog to use their brain and their muscles when the weather outside is at its most frightful.

Be mindful of what you are serving your human guests to eat. Keep an eye out so that your
