Objectives To analyze a problem and formulate research

questions

To make a critical selection from secondary sources (literature, electronic information sources, including the internet, etc.) that provide the information required to deal with the research questions.

To critically analyze, review and summarize intellectual material with an emphasis on problem-solving.

To review existing scientific papers on the subject and provide feedback to the authors.

Details regarding Proposal Writing Students are required to write a Research Proposal for Department

of RS and GISc based on any application area of RS and GIS.

Select one of the faculty member of RS and GISc department as project Principal Investigator (PI).

Discuss with PI about project title, scope and other details. It is possible that a topic is provided by the PI. PI will only be responsible for providing relevant details about the project and research material but PI will not be contributing in proposal writing.

Students can also select topics of their own choices but every project should be approved by a PI.

These proposals will be the property of department of RS and GISc.

Course OutcomesOn completion of this module students will be able to:

1. Design or formulate a research study.

2. Familiar with authentic literature review techniques as

well as data collection methods.

3. To formulate the research proposal and report it in a

written form.

4. To write the research report/papers

5. To develop presentation skills.
