What is Air Pollution?

Air pollution is the introduction of many kinds of gases, chemicals, particulate matter or biological materials into the atmosphere

•Cause harm to humans or other living organisms.

•Damages the natural environment.

•Reduce the air quality.

Causes

Air pollution is aggravated because of four developments:

-Increasing traffic-Growing cities-Rapid economic development-Industrialization

Air Pollutants comes from many different sources.

They are classified in:

The concentration of air pollutants in and near the urban areas causes severe pollution to the surroundings.

The largest sources of human-created air pollution are energy generation, transportation, and industries that use a great deal of energy sources.

There are several effects of air pollution on the environment which are varied and profound.

•Global Warming

•Smog

•Depletion of the ozone layer.

The World Health Organization say that 2.4 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution, with 1.5 million of these deaths attributable to indoor air pollution.

Solutions

In most developed countries, land use planning is an important part of social policy, ensuring that land is used efficiently for the benefit of the wider economy and population as well as to protect the environment.

Encourage your family to walk to the neighbourhood market.

Whenever possible take your bicycle.

As far as possible use public forms of transport.

Reduce the use of aerosols at home.

If possible share your room with others when the airconditioner is on.
