Description

The Digital Visual Interface is a high-quality, uncompressed data link between a host processor video card and a display periph-eral. Optical technology for this transmission stretches the performance beyond the limita-tions of copper wire with longer length, data security, negligible RFI/EMI and the elimina-tion of costly analog distribution systems.

The EDID in the display can be read and stored by just plugging TX unit to the display. This self-EDID programming feature makes the installation of the TX unit easy and flexi-ble for any variable resolution display sys-tems. The transmitter and receiver are con-nected over single SC terminated fiber jump-ers.

The four (4) optical data, Red, Green, Blue and clock are multiplexed and de-multiplexed within optical modules. The transmitter opti-cal signal is capable, by using an optional optical passive splitter, of supporting up to 16 receivers.

An external power adapter is required for the receiver module, while most video cards can provide +5V DC power to the transmitter module. The transmitter module provides

Description

The Digital Visual Interface is a high-quality, uncompressed data link between a host processor video card and a display peripheral. Optical technology for this transmission stretches the performance beyond the limitations of copper wire with longer length, data security, negligible RFI/EMI and the elimination of costly analog distribution systems.

The EDID in a display can be read and stored by just plugging TX unit to the display. This self-EDID programming feature makes the installation of the TX unit easy and flexible for any variable resolution display systems.

The four (4) optical data, Red, Green, Blue and clock are multiplexed and de-multiplexed through WDM optical modules. Graphic data can be extended up to 1,500 meters (4,920ft) at WUXGA resolution (1900x1200) @ 60Hz vertical refresh rate over duplex LC fibers jumpers.

An external power adapter is required for the receiver module, while most video cards can provide +5V DC power to the transmitter module. The transmitter and receiver modules are clearly labeled to prevent reverse installation of the modules.

Advanced Fiber Products’ normal through fiber optic switches save you time, money, and

effort by allowing fast, organized, reconfiguration and easy maintenance of high speed fiber

optic networks with the ease of a normaling patchbay. AFP’s fiber optic patchbays offer

singlemode and multimode options with an industry standard simplex or duplex LC connector

interface. The patchbay organizes your fiber demarcation points with user friendly cable

management trays and easy to read designation strips.

AFP’s optical normal through adaptors help eliminate the need for traditional fiber patchcords

on the front of patchbays, normally a bug-bear of fiber networking architectures. Reducing

cable clutter, weight and cost of cable management, AFP’s optical normal through adaptors

provide a rugged and reliable way to carry, monitor, and route your high-speed signals on the

back of the patchbay.

AFP’s Normal Through Optical Switches are passive devices which are signal protocol agnostic

and are available for either singlemode or multimode networks. They carry and route

Ethernet, HDTV, SDI, IP, Analog Video and all other data formats, at any data rates. They

operate with excellent reliability and optical performance.

Only when an industry standard LC connector is plugged to either of the front ports, will the

signals be switched out for monitoring, temporary network re-configurations or maintenance.

All ‘normal’ patching configurations are seamlessly preconfigured and hidden behind the

patch-panel as with legacy copper BNC type

‘through’ adaptors.

Applications for a passive, normaling, fiber

optic patchbay include; serving as a primary

routing device instead of an active fiber

optic router, expanding the I/O’s of an

existing active fiber optic router, serving as

a back-up in case of a catastrophic failure of

an active fiber router, and a demarcation

point to allow for easy re-routing of fiber

connections to allow for maintenance.

Normaling vs. Non-Normaling: A normal is an internal switch that acts as if a patchcord is inserted into the top jack and

“patched” into the jack directly below. Normaling removes the need to have patchcords inserted into circuits that are in their

“normal” state. Only when a circuit is rerouted from it usual configuration is a patchcord required.

Patent Applications Pending

AFP’s patent pending Secure RJ45 connectivity solution is designed to prevent unauthorized or inadvertent changes to cabling networks in highly sensitive applications such as data-centers, enterprise networks including financial, educational, secure IT and military networks, where multiple physical layer access classifications are critical.

AFP’s unique ‘tamper proof’ Secure RJ45 connectivity solution is compatible and can be retro-fitted to nearly all industry-standard RJ ports in both network equipment and patches panels. AFP’s Secure RJ solution is available in CAT6 Slim-line and CAT6A performance configurations and complies to TIA-568-C.2 standards.

The locking secure RJ connectors (SRJ) can only be unplugged with matching color-keyed extraction tools. These tools also automatically de-latch the RJ connectors from the ports, limiting disturbance and damage to adjacent connector channels in dense applications. The SRJ connector is supplied with a transparent polymer housing allowing the operator to view the status LEDs on active electronic equipment.

Access to empty or unassigned ports can be prevented with the use of keyed color coded SRJ Port Blockers. The SRJ solution compliments the Secure LC fiber solution also available for optical networking from AFP.

The Secure RJ cable assemblies and matching extraction tools are available in eight key ways and colors. White patch cord cable is standard. Red and blue cable colors as well as shielded patch cords can also be supplied upon request.

Complimenting the SRJ connectors, AFP also provides Secure RJ Locking Port Plugs acting as ‘locking dust caps’ enabling empty RJ ports to be locked out, preventing the unauthorized insertion of a cable assembly or connector. The port plugs can be discon-nected in the same way as the SRJ connector simply by using the appropriately keyed extraction tool.

Application Overview The application involved enabling the pant/tilt/roll operator located about 3 km (1.8 miles) away from the camera to monitor both the camera and the program video from the broadcast truck. The user wanted to send uncompressed HD-SDI high definition video signal from a camera to the base station about 3 km away to give the operator of the pan/tilt/roll head a camera view. Then, the video signal needed to go on to the broadcast truck. From the broadcast truck they wanted to send the Program video back to the base station so that the pan/tilt/roll operator could see when that camera is "On Air". Because of the distance and bandwidth requirements of HD video, fiber was the medium of choice.

The user wanted to use a small form factor MVMC video coax to fiber transmitter at the camera to convert the electrical signal to optical for transmission via single-mode fiber and send it to the base station. While in this case the camera was up to 3 km away from the base station, actual distances greater than 16 km (9.9 miles) are easily achievable with this setup.

The optical signal from the MVMC transmitter at the camera is intercepted by the VMDA video media distribution amplifier at the base station to give the Pan/Tilt/Roll head operator the camera image. At the same time, the optical signal is re-clocked and continues on via fiber to the next VMDA at the broadcast truck. There, the completed Program video is added and returned on the same VMDA’s other path to an MVMC receiver fiber to coax converter located at the base station for monitoring by the pan/tilt/roll operator.

The high definition MVMC transmitter and receiver compatibility with the high definition VMDA distribution amplifier and the VMDA’s functional flexibility of selectable input/output modes help enable this application.
