Currently, he provides music education and afterschool music programs. Chris Harrison: Chris has worked as a JAS Faculty Assist in the Roaring Fork School district for several years. He is also a bassoonist for the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra. Rob Merritt: A 30-year valley resident, Rob is the band director in Basalt and a trumpet performer. He also established the annual Roaring Fork Valley Honor Jazz Band, which is supported by Jazz Aspen Snowmass. Mark Johnson: Mark is a JAS In-School Faculty member and a woodwinds expert. The JAS Summer Camp is designed for middle and high school students of the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. The Camp provides direct music instruction from professional musicians, including private lessons and group workshops as well as live performance elements. JAS Summer Camps are led by JAS In-Schools Program Director, Chris Bank, as well as JAS In-Schools Instructors, Chris Harrison, Mark Johnson and Rob Merritt.

JAS Summer Camp Schedule

Advanced & Intermediate Advanced: June 19-28

Intermediate: July 17-28 10 am-3 pm

Roaring Fork High School College students from the Denver area, who are currently music majors, will join the June group for the last two days of the camp and will perform with them at the Glenwood Springs Summer of Music at Two Rivers Park. The July group will perform at the Carbondale Mountain Fair.

JAS Beat Lab

August 14-21; 10 am-1 pm Carbondale High School

The JAS Beat Lab is an opportunity for small groups of students to compose, arrange, perform, and mix original music using the professional recording software Reason 8. The program is applied education to introduce students to the concepts of computer-based music production in a studio environment while having them create the music that is being recorded. 1-2 years beginning music experience required. Please note: Enrollment is limited to 8 students.
