Who Should Do This Course?The Advanced Surface Medical First Responder course has been specifically designed for surface mining personnel who wish to attain and apply advanced medical first response knowledge as a member of a surface mines rescue team.

Ongoing Resources and Continuing EducationGraduates of the Advanced Surface Medical First Responder course are given access to the MFR App. Operating on both Android and iOS platforms, the app is a series of quick reference guides of abridged course content in an easy-access digital format. Constantly updated, it ensures current best-practice information.

Course OverviewThe Advanced Surface Medical First Responder course provides vital theoretical and practical hands-on instruction essential to effective medical first response in a surface mine environment. The theoretical component of the course utilises RFDS Flexible Learning Options, an on-line platform providing participants with interactive and engaging self-paced learning at a time and place most suited to them. On completion of the theoretical component, the hands-on and practical assessment phase of the course is conducted by St. John Ambulance (Qld).

Course ObjectivesCourse content has been specifically developed to ensure participants are well prepared as Advanced Surface Medical First Responders. Graduates are enabled with the skills, knowledge and confidence to apply critical thinking and proficiency from specialised surface mining learning modules including:> Considerations of the surface mining environment> Advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills> Critical pain management > Advanced oxygen systems – safety, pre and post

operational checks> Serious injury and medical emergencies> Stretcher transport – lifting techniques and safety> Mental health and traumatic stress awareness> Triage and incident scene management
