Dear Canberra Christian School Adventurer,

We are excited that you have chosen to enrol your child in our Adventurer program. Our team is ready to support parents and caregivers in leading and encouraging their children in a growing, joyful love relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Adventurer Club was created to give children an opportunity to belong to an organized peer group. To join, children are invited to participate in various activities, which will improve their social skills. From the time children start school until they reach puberty, their need to be with and be accepted by their peer group is increasingly strong.

Each child is encouraged to participate in all activities and parents/guardians are given assignments along with their child. There are many age-challenging activities on the Adventurer menu. These range from games and outdoor activities to nature exploration and family camping, field trips and community service projects. A six level age-specific curriculum is used along with approximately 80 specialized award areas of crafts, nature, recreation, spiritual development and home arts.

The Adventurer Club involves children and their parents at our club sessions. Parent involvement in our club sessions provides wonderful opportunities for parents to participate in the learning experience.

We look forward to having you in our Adventurer Club!

Regards

Rick Hergenhan Bree Hills

About AdventurersAdventurers aims to strengthen the parent-child relationship and to further your child’s spiritual, physical, mental and social development. Kids can learn Christian values, experience the joy of doing things well, learn good sportsmanship and people skills and use their God-given abilities to benefit themselves and others.

PhilosophyThe Adventurer Club is open to all children ages 4 (the year before they start school) to 9 (grade 4), in which the church, home and school join together to help children develop character and wisdom. The Adventurer Club is offered to assist parents in making the development of their child richer and more meaningful.

Through the Adventurer Program, the church, home, and school can work together with the parent to develop a mature, happy child. The church’s greatest resource is our children; therefore, it is imperative that as a church we meet the challenge to provide a program for our children during their early, formative years.

We want right habits, thoughts, motives, dispositions, and attitudes to be established. The Wise Man wrote, “Bring up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Prov. 22:6 (NIV).

ObjectivesThe Adventurer Club provides fun and creative ways for children to:

• Develop a Christ-like character;• Experience the joy and satisfaction of doing things well;• Express their love for Jesus in a natural way;• Learn good sportsmanship and strengthen their ability to get along with

others;• Discover their God-given abilities and to learn how to use them to benefit

self and serve others;• Discover God’s world; Improve their understanding of what makes

families strong;• Develop parental support for the training of children.

Adventurer Classes/LevelsClass work is used to encourage children to develop a deeper love for Jesus. The classes are as follows:

Little Lamb Pre-Kindergarten (Age 4) Kool Koalas Kindergarten (Age 5)Busy Bee Grade 1 (Age 6)Sunbeam Grade 2 (Age 7)Builder Grade 3 (Age 8)Helping Hand Grade 4 (Age 9)

The teachers will be presenting many of the requirements, but the curriculum is designed to enhance parent-child interaction. Each level builds on the levels which came before it and is especially designed to interest, challenge and provide successful experiences for children of that level. Pins for the completion of each level will be awarded at the year-end Investiture.

Adventurer AwardsAwards are earned in a variety of categories. Some are required for the completion of the Adventurer class, and others are bonus awards that provide additional learning opportunities. Patches are awarded at investiture, and will be worn on the Adventurer’s sash.
