Federally supported health centers suchas the Vernon J. Harris facility that havestaff trained as application counselorshelped thousands of people sign up lastyear, said R. Neal Graham, chief executiveofficer of the Virginia CommunityHealthcare Association.
“This gives us the opportunity to sign upeven thousands more,” Graham said, referring to a partnership with the state todo open enrollment outreach.
McAuliffe said a marketing campaign topromote enrollment will use displayadvertisements on buses, digital ads andmore. It will launch in December.
Open enrollment runs through Feb. 15, butpeople who want coverage starting Jan. 1need to sign up by Dec. 15.
Many people will be automatically re-enrolled in the plans they have this year, but consumer advocates advise people togo online and update their information, check for changes to plans and make surethe current plan is still the one they want.
In addition to the main federalgovernment’s Healthcare.gov website forsignups, consumers will be able to go toCoverVa.org and find out about stateprograms such as Medicaid or the statechildren’s health insurance program.

John Curtis Gish · Top CommenterMy insurance premiums are now higher than I was paying for my mortgage before I paid it off, with a $5,000 deductible. I really wonder just how much more I'll be paying when all the othermillions of those who don't have insurance, and the illegals that Obama will give amnesty to signup for their free insurance? What ever happened to living within one's means?Reply · Like · · Follow Post · 9 hours ago1
Linda Snyder · Top Commenter · Works at Freelance WriterMy premiums dropped by about 30% thanks to a new policy I found through ACA.Reply · Like · 4 hours ago
Linda Snyder · Top Commenter · Works at Freelance Writer"What ever happened to living within one's means?" More like dying within one'smeans. Nobody other than the top 1% have the means of paying for a major healthcrisis. Plus, undocumented immigrants are prohibited from obtaining subsidizedhealth insurance. So rest your little head. No "illegals" will be getting free insurance atyour expense.Reply · Like · 3 hours ago
Eugene Golden · · Top Commenter · Henrico, VirginiaI praise the current Governor for his support. WE had a Governor last year during openenrollment that was still licking his wounds from the loss suffered by Romney and counting hiscash and illegal gifts and letting his wife run wild.Reply · Like · · Follow Post · 20 hours ago
