TATHRASeafoods is fastestablishing a
reputation for deliciousfresh fish and chips and anew menu is sure to fur-ther tempt the taste buds.
Since taking over thebusiness in February, owners MelanieGoldsmith and PhilIndovino have strived toproduce quality foodwith an emphasis onfresh local ingredientsand seafood.
The couple is over-whelmed with the posi-tive response they havereceived from locals inrelation to the changesthey have made to theshop and the menu.
With such a greatresponse they havedecided to introduce newtypes of seafood to themenu, increasing thechoice for seafoodlovers.
There will now begrilled local oysters (nat-ural and Kilpatrick),prawns and lobster on themenu, rather than simplytake away fish and chips.
New burger optionswill include paninis andwraps, providing cus-tomers with a more gour-met-style selection.
“We are serious aboutour seafood and fish andchips,” Melanie said.
“The chefs and staffare dedicated people wholove their food and a lotof experience is goinginto it.
“Together we areworking really hard tocreate a new andimproved business.”
The next six weeks, over the holiday period, are sure to see themrushed off their feet, butMelanie said they are “init for the long haul”.
The premises - a fishand chip shop since the
1960s - have undergonean extensive refurbish-ment with new equip-ment installed and newoutdoor seating arrange-ments.
“We are really proud tocarry on thistradition…the communi-ty has such a connectionto the place and it has alot of character,” Melaniesaid.
In fact, next yearMelanie and Phil haveplans to compile a bookwith photos and anecdot-
al stories about the histo-ry of the shop through tothe present day.
In addition to provid-ing a takeaway service, fresh seafood is sold overthe counter.
Fish is sourced locally, mainly from Eden andBermagui.
There are three battersto choose from – a beerbatter using dark ale, plain batter andJapanese-style Pankobreadcrumbs – which aremade daily.
The oil is changed reg-ularly and the filtercleaned daily.
“We use rice bran oil, which means the food islight and easy to digest, and doesn’t leave youwith that ‘full’ feeling,”Melanie said.
Tathra Seafoods willbe open for lunch anddinner all year round.
