PLANNING

ASSESSMENT OUTLINE Design your own advertisement for a product targeted at a specific audience.

Mark Scheme:

BRIEF Imagine you work in the creative department of an advertising agency. The Managing Director is looking to promote someone in your department. This person will be the person with the most creative and lively approach to advertising. She has set you the challenge to enable her to select one of you. The challenge is to come up with a sample A4 single page print advert for the following imaginary product:

A new Hair or Beauty Product (eg Face Cream, Make Up, Shampoo, Perfume, Shower Gel, Deodorant) targeted at an audience of your choice.

BRIEF All sample adverts must feature the following:oA new, imaginary productoAn Imaginary brandoA made up slogan, brand logo and copy to anchor the meaning of your advertoA modeloOriginal Photography, including a shot of your productIt should also promote the image or identity you associate with the product.

HELPFUL TIPS You should aim to follow conventions- to ensure your advert looks like those you may see during your research.

You should also aim for a distinctive style in order to brand your product

TASK ONE- MOOD BOARD Research existing adverts and gather images to inspire your thinking.

These could include:o Interesting images that inspire your thinking regarding camera work/composition/lighting/models etcoPre existing adverts that promote your producto Test shots using your own digital camera.

TASK TWO- PRESENTATION Create a Presentation detailing your initial ideas for you advert, you will need to include the following slides.o What product are you going to advertise?o What ideologies are attached to your brand? E.g fashionable, high class, long lasting etc.o Which of Maslow's needs will your product use?o Which Persuasive techniques might you use in your advert?o Which colours will you use and why?o Primary Target Audience (Homework)o Secondary Target Audience (Homework) You will have the next 2 lessons to complete this presentation and then you will need to pitch your ideas to the rest of the class on Wednesday 9th December.

HOMEWORK Create a questionnaire based around your chosen target audience and your product ideas.

You should aim to ask 10 people, 10 questions and have this ready for next lesson to add this to your presentation.

You should also consider who your secondary audience might be.
