Mock Test 1 : Shall be of 40 minutes duration and it can be practiced by the candidates any time

during the given time slot.

Mock Test 2 & Actual Examination will be of 1 hour each.

INSTRUCTION FOR CANDIDATES FOR ONLINE EXAMINATION

Candidates can appear in the Examination using laptop / desktop computer with uninterrupted

power supply, stable internet connectivity having working webcam and microphone or from

mobile phone from their respective locations.

It is recommended to use Laptop or Desktop computer for online examination.

1. Setting up password :

(a) Two days prior to ‘mock test-1’, an automatic email from [email protected] will be

sent to candidates on their email ID mentioned in their application form. The email would

contain: (i) OTP to set password,

(ii) Link to set the password

(iii) Link to login

(b) Open the email, click on the first link provided in the email

In case, clicking on a link do not work, you can copy the link and paste it in the browser.

(c) The OTP is already entered. If it is not entered please enter the OTP and click on

Submit

(d) Enter a secure password and retype the same password to confirm it and click on

the submit button

Congratulations! Your account is ready.

(e) In the case you have not received the mail from [email protected], or E-Mail

received but OTP Expired or have forgotten the password, follow the steps below:

(i) Visit sign-in page (https://iiserpune.codetantra.com/login.jsp) (ii) Click on forgot (https://iiserpune.codetantra.com/login.jsp).

(iii) Enter your registered email id and click on recover.

(iv) You would receive an email with OTP from [email protected].

(v) Follow the instructions in the mail to reset the password by clicking the 1st link.

NOTE: The validity of the OTP is only 10 minutes. NOTE: If an error occurs, ensure that you are on the correct login URL. If same error

occurs even on a correct login URL, ensure that you are entering correct email address for

signing in as provided in application form.

2. Login for examination:

After setting the password, open the same email received from CodeTantra, click

on the URL (https://iiserpune.codetantra.com/login.jsp) provided to login. In case, clicking on

a link do not work, you can copy the link and paste it in the browser.

3. Navigate to Test: After successful login you will see the following screen

Click on the Tests button

4. Test Status: After clicking on tests, you will see following window

(a) Entry stopped: After the entry stop time (10 min) configured by the IISER Pune for this

test you will see status as Entry stopped.

(b) Expired: If candidate does not take the test, then after the end time it is shown as

Expired.

(c) Completed: If the candidate completes the exam, its status is shown as Completed.

5. Environment Check (Hardware / Software etc.):

(a) After clicking on Open Test, first all system requirements will be checked

(b) The browser may prompt with multiple requests to allow granting permissions for Location, Camera & Microphone. Please ensure to allow the grant of permissions.

(c) Click to perform an audio check, click on the play icon (⯈) and click Yes, if you are able to

listen, otherwise click No and verify your device audio settings.

(d) Speak out a few words for the microphone check to succeed, if it does not turn green, verify if you microphone is connected and is unmuted.

(d) (e) After having all checks and green ticks in front of all tasks, Click on the “Proceed to Test”

button to go forward (e)

(f) If the permissions were not granted, permissions can be given by clicking on the Lock Icon

on the top left area of the browser

(g) Make sure that you allow all the permissions for Location, Camera and Microphone.

(h) It is auto-proctored exam, hence once your video and audio streams are detected,

the start button will automatically appear

(i) As soon as the proctor (or the system) approves your environment (hardware/software

etc.), you will see this kind of notification, and the start button will appear.

6. Taking Test:

(a) After clicking on start test, the question will appear in front of you one by one along with four options. Only one option can be selected.

(b) Tabs on question pallet:

(i) Marked for Review & Next: Click here if you would like to look at the question later,

to mark a question for review.

(ii) Clear Response: Will deselect all the options.

(iii) Prev: Navigate you to the previous question.

(iv) Next: Navigate you to the next question.

(v) Finish: Do not click on this button unless you want to end the exam completely.

(vi) Jump to: After clicking on Jump to, you will see all question numbers, where you can

select any number to see that question. You can also see current question status as

under :

1] Not Visited : Shows questions not yet seen by you

2] Visited: Shows questions seen by you.

3] Attempted: Shows questions answered by you.

4] Marked for review: Shows questions seen but not yet answered and you want to

revisit them.

5] Attempted & Marked for review: Shows questions attempted but you want to

revisit them.

(vii) After completion of test, you can click on FINISH button to end the exam or the

exam will automatically end after the exam time set by IISER Pune. In both cases,

only attempted answers will be considered.

(viii) – and + buttons will be available to increase or decrease the font size of the question

text.

(ix) A scientific calculator also shall be available on the screen near exam timer.

(x) Questions shall be based on “Elements of Electrical Engineering”.

7. Other Key Instructions :

(a) Question Pattern

(i) There would be total of 50 multiple-choice questions. Each question carries one mark; as such, the total exam shall be of 50 marks. 0.25 marks shall be deducted for each wrong answer.

(ii) Only one question would be visible at a time. You may visit all questions before you start answering.

(iii) Be mindful that this is a “Remote Proctored” examination and all your actions are

being recorded and being monitored by artificial intelligence / machine learning

technologies as well as Human Proctors (Invigilators).

(iv) No clarifications will be available for questions in the test. Please interpret them in

your own way and answer the question.

(b) Exam Duration

(i) Actual Examination shall be of 1 hour duration.

(ii) Candidate should log in for the examination at least 30 minutes before the start time of examination to undergo smooth process of online verification by the Proctors. This will ensure that you will be in a position to sort out all verification process before start of examination time.

8. Pre-Exam Activities

(i) It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure an appropriate environment (Hardware / software etc) for the examination. You should take the online Examination only in a well illuminated Closed Room which is free from external noise or disturbances.

(ii) Complete your breakfast or Lunch before commencement of the Test. You will not be permitted to move away from the camera even to use toilet/washroom during the examination, so be prepared.

(iii) The Valid Photo ID proof issued by the Government should be kept handy for validation by the proctor, while appearing in online examination. Authentication/ verification will be done during the process of exam by a proctor via device camera. However, failure of verification/ authentication can lead to disqualification from exam.

(iv) Please ensure to install/use updated version of web-browsers. Latest Google Chrome is the recommended browser. Ensure you update your Google Chrome browser version in your devices before your exam. If you want to use iPhone or iPad use only Safari Browser.

(v) Please note that you will not be permitted to login if you are late by 10 min or more from the scheduled start time of the Test.

(vi) Please ensure that you are taking the exam on Chrome Browser (for operating systems like Windows / MAC / Linux / Android phone) or safari version 13 for iOS. Upgraded browser gives a smoother experience.

(vii) At the start of the exam, the browser may show pop ups for allowing permissions. Always click on Allow.

(viii) Make sure that your webcam or external webcam is functioning properly.

(ix) If you are using Laptop, ensure that battery is charged to maximum extent possible by the start time of the exam. If you are using a desktop computer, it is advised for an UPS connection to continue exam even during power cuts or at least have a mobile phone as a backup.

(x) If you are taking the exam from your mobile phone, make sure the mobile is fully charged. The mobile phones should be kept in do not disturb mode (Silent Mode) during the duration of the exam so that their screens are not covered with incoming call information. If it is not in ‘do not disturb’ mode, exam could be automatically blocked due to screen change. In such cases, you should immediately call your proctor.

(xi) Disable all notification sending applications like Anti-Virus Apps etc.

(xii) Ensure the system time and time zone on the devise you are using for exam are correct; else, you may not be able to give the exam.

(xiii) Ensure that only the browser is running on your Laptop / Desktop / Mobile. All other windows / apps should be closed to ensure proper exam.

9. Things ‘to do’ during the exam:

(i) Read all the instructions at the start of question paper before commencing exam.

(ii) Maintain decorum during the exam.

(iii) Keep track of exam timer.

(iv) Look for any onscreen messages related to exam and respond immediately as per the message received

(v) Be aware, that any suspicion of malpractice or attempted use of unfair means can lead to your disqualification.

(vi) In case a candidate loses connectivity, he/she should log in again to resume test within 10 minutes if connection restores. If connectivity is not available for a longer duration candidate must get in touch with the Proctor on call and resume test if permitted.

10. Things ‘Not to Do’ during examination:

(i) For actual exam, do not change the computer / laptop already tested by you during

Mock Test,.

(ii) Do not have anybody else present in the test taking room apart from yourself. Non-

compliance to this will lead to your disqualification.

(iii) Do not share the internet bandwidth during course of the Exam.

(iv) Do not move away from your computer and Web Cam range

(v) Do not have a light source behind you or at an angle that will bring shadow on your

face

(vi) Do not cover the webcam at any point of time from start of examination till your

examination is submitted

(vii) Do not create virtual setup of screen mirroring or casting your screen.

(viii) Do not move out of the browser during the Test and trying to move away from the

camera or open another browser or tab. Doing so shall lead to automatic closure of

the test.

(ix) Taking breakfast /meal /snacks /beverage during examination not allowed.

(x) Do not take any phone calls during the examination.

(xi) Do not cover your face.

(xii) Do not talk to anybody while taking the exam

(xiii) Do not use any communication device during the course of examination

(xiv) Do not share your screen with anybody

(xv) Do not take screenshots or video or photos of question to share with anyone or on

social media channels

(xvi) Do not try any unfair means to gain advantage in the examination which shall lead to

disqualification.

(xvii) Do not try to use any other application other than Launcher on the system. Trying this

will lead to closure of exam.

(xviii) Do not click ‘X’ on top right corner to close the exam window

Mere appearance in the online examination shall not entitle applicant to continue in the

selection process which will depend upon he/she fulfills all the eligibility criteria at each stage

of the selection process.

Candidates are being informed by email and SMS on the details given in the application

form. No separate communication shall be made.
