Aerojet expanded its QMS to be a multi-site system conformingto three standards.

Introduction

Aerojet-General Corporation, a GenCorp Inc. (NYSE: GY) company, isa world-recognized aerospace and defense leader principally servingthe missile and space propulsion and armaments markets. Since itsinception manufacturing rocket motors for World War II aircraft, to itscurrent work with NASA and U.S. defense and space agencies, Aerojet

is a leader and innovator through-out the aerospace industry.

This innovation carries over toAerojets quality managementprogram. Since 1996, Aerojethas earned multi-site certificationto ISO 9001, AS9100, and ISO14001 across eight U.S. facilities.The company is committed tomanufacturing high-quality prod-ucts and to protecting the envi-ronment.

Though Aerojet has used multiple

registrars to gain its certifica-tions, the company now engagesIntertek for its audits. Aerojetinitially chose Intertek becausethe company is one of the largest

and most well-known registrars inthe industry, said Rob Shenton,Aerojets chief operations officer.Now, more than a decade later,Aerojet is still certified throughIntertek and the scope of thecertification keeps growing.

Growth of a QMS

Aerojet earned its initial ISO 9001certification, for its Sacramentoand Socorro sites, from Intertek inOctober 1996. AS9100 RevisionA was released in 2001, incor-

porating the requirements of ISO9001:2000. Aerojet became certi-fied to this standard in April 2002.

2003:The Aerojet Ordnance Tennessee, Inc. siteearned its initial certification to ISO 9001.

2006:The Camden, Ark., Clearfield, Utah, Culpepper,Va. and Gainesville, Va. sites transferred theirAS9100 and ISO 9001 registrations to Intertek.

2007:The Woodland Hills, Calif. site was added as

a new site to the corporate AS9100/ISO 9001certificate.

2008:Intertek has been selected to assess the newSacramento, Calif. site, Prospect Green II, toISO 9001 and AS9100.
