THE MANY DIFFERENT METHODS OF AIR TRANSPORTATION USED TO CARRY THE MAILS ARE WHAT DREAMS AND ROMANCES ARE MADE OF.

The National jamboree of India,1937 has the honor of having a early rocketeer, Stephen M. Smith, attend the jamboree. There were a total of 12 large rockets prepared for the jamboree, only 11 were fired for the other fell victim to ants. On Feb. 3, 1937 there were a total of 4 rockets fired; 2 for mail and the other 2 for messages of welcome. The above has been franked with the special green rocket label and canceled with the Rocket Despatch hand canceler as well as being franked with regular Indian postage and canceled with the special jamboree hand canceler at the post office on site. This rocket #138, ''Princess Elizabeth" carried 254 covers and 34 copies of the jamboree Daily.

Commercially used cover franked with the twenty cent Transpacific Ajr Mail stamp of 1937 canceled at Hilo, Hawaii on May 4, 1937. The cover is from the Hawaii Island Girl Scouts and sent to Central Point, Oregon. This cover is correctly franked, this was very expenive for the average letter via surface mail was only three cents and this air mail service was almost seven times the cost. A limited number of letters would have been sent this way to the mainland for the United States was just coming out of the "Great Depression".

The special Baloon Post envelope franked with the Seventh World Jamboree stamp. The cancel is for the ballon flight on the Bailon "Zurick" from Salzburg to Kuehl on October 21, 1951. The funds helped to build children's homes and camps.

The Air Expolorer Scouls of Region 4 and Toronto, Canada had an encampment for training at Wilkins Air Force Depot, Shelby, Ohio from August 16 - 21, 1954. The cover was canceled at Shelby by a machine canceler on August 19, 1954, it tied a single of the Scout stamp (995). The Air Scout Progam was corning to an end in this and other countries. The program ended in the United States in the early 1960,s. Few Air Scout Events have had any philatelic items assoicated with them.

The cover above is canceled with the special Austrian Scout Anniversary cancel on April 25, 1956 and held for the Oight on April 27, 1956. The special Oight cachet is added in black for the Oight between Vienna and New York. The Oight was also in honor of the FIPEX stamp show in New York at the same time. The Bailon Post envelope was overprinted in black for FIPEX.

The Genesee Council, B.S.A. had Citizenship In Action during Armed Forces Day. Troop 7 of Batavia, N.Y. sponsored the cachet, a second hand stamp was applied in purple which read "BAT A VIA, N. Y. TO BUFFALO, N. Y. VIA NAVY HELICOPTER" to both the front and and back. This is the earliest scout re­lated helicopter flown piece. There must be only a few of these Navy flown pieces.

The special flight between Haifa and Lod Nemal Tefa on August 1, 1961 was flown by the air taxi service in a single engine light plane. The cover is registered and had the special Jambouree cancel and a printed cachet as well as the hand stamp flight cachet on the front. The back has the special Jambouree cancel, the regular Haifa post office cancel and a receiver cancel for Lod NemaJ Teufa.

The special Scout Helicopter Hight between Riccione, Italy and San Marino was flown on May 31, 1969. The covers had both the cancels for the stamps and receiving cancels on the fronts. The Italian cancel is a special scout cancel and the San Marino is a special cancel for the helicopter flight.
