K a l a i k Kamal has been continu-ously per-forming for 30 years in

the field of music. He can be specifically mentioned as a senior artiste who has performed with all the Tamil and Sinhalese musi-cal groups in Sri Lanka.

Kamal will conduct a

one-man musical show, Geeth Raath, an Islamic Devotional Songs pro-gramme for the 28th occas-sion on October 29 at 7 pm at J R Jayewardene Centre, Colombo 7, Under the sponsorship of the Khalid Foundation.

This programme has been welcomed and appre-ciated by many fans. For Hajj festival, this will be

conducted free of charge for audience.

After jour-neying in Galle, Putt-lam and Ampara dis-tricts now

Janakaraliya has come to Badulla. Janakaraliya mobile theatre now has been installed at the play ground of Badulla Central College. A lengthy drama festival has been arranged for school children and general public from Octo-ber 30 to November 12.

A total number of chil-dren’s dramas, short and long dramas are scheduled to be performed in this festival. It will be ceremo-nially opened by the Dis-trict Secretary of Badulla at 6.30 on 30th.

Janakaraliya drama pro-ductions performed at the festival are Parakrama Niriella’s Charandas, Sek-kuwa, Andaramal, Seeth-ambara Pataya (written by Mangala Senanayake), Devlova Gamana, Erikkal-am Poo, Mayapattadai, Devaloha Payanam, Ajan-than Shanthakumar’s Par-asthava (Translated by prof. Tissa Kariyawasam from Anton Chekov’s The Proposal) and Kalyana Kathei, Suneth Shan-

thapriya’s Andura Saha Eliya, Selvaraj Leelawathy and Ronika Chamalee’s Payanihal.

Somalatha Subasinghe’s Thoppi Velenda will be performed for kids while Duhun Ranga Soba, a spe-cial cultural variety pro-gramme will be presented by the graduate trainees of the district secretary’s office in Badulla on November 12 as the last performance of the Jana-karaliya festival.

Janakaraliya theatre arts programme will be con-ducted by Parakrama Niri-ella and Dilip Rohana. Full time members of the Jana-karaliya drama group Sumudu Mallawaarachchi, Ajanthan Shanthakumar,

ayaka, Vijitha Hettige, Indika Madurage, Sarath Kongalage, Yasho Prashath, Geethika Priya-darshani are extending their fullest assistance and collaboration for the pro-gramme as performing art-ists.

Alexander Sokurov will be screened on November 2 at the Russian Center auditori-um, No10, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7 at 6 pm.

Faust is a 2011 Russian film directed by Alexander Sokurov. Set in the 19th cen-tury, it is a free interpretation of the Faust legend and its literary adaptations by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Thomas Mann.

The dialogues are in Ger-man. The film won the Golden Lion at the 68th Venice International Film Festival.

The film is the final part in a series of films where Alexander Sokurov explores the corrupting effects of power.

Heinrich Faust (Johannes Zeiler) is eaten up by his longing for enlightening. He seeks to understand the very nature of life and how it makes the world go round. Driven by his burning desire for cognition he even unearths corpses and rummages in their guts just to localise the home of the soul.

An exhibi-tion of paint-ings by Ranja-ni de Alwis entitled Rhap-sody in Hues

will be held at the Lionel Wendt on November 3 and 4.

De Alwis started art les-sons with Professor Bob Dickerson, a prominent artist and art teacher in Rome. She painted for sev-eral years in Rome, held group exhibitions with the United Nations Women’s Guild annually, as well solo exhibitions before she left Italy. She sold many paintings, which today hang in private collections in Italy, France, UK, USA, Canada, Barbados, Kenya, Nigeria, India, Australia and of course, Sri Lanka. On her return to Sri Lanka, she had the good fortune to come under the tutelage of the brilliant Painter and Sculptor, Prof. Sarath Chandrajeeva at the Colombo Academy of

Art. She has been painting under his guidance and encouragement for many

years and his influence is clearly seen in her more recent works.

A Glimpse of Europe, a photographic exhibition by Hirushi Cham-odi Mallawa-

tantri will be held from November 2 to 12 at Alli-ance française de Kandy,No.642, Peradeniya Road, Kandy.

The chief for the event will be Senior Lecturer Fac-ulty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya,

In a recent interview, on the occasion of her exhibi-tion at Lionel Wendt Art Gallery, the young Hirushi Chamodi Mallawatantri expresses her involvement in the art of photography.

“Photography has been a great interest of mine since I was a little girl.From 2008 I was a member of

Devi Balika Vidyalaya’s Photographic Society. Since I was guided throughout this journey by Chandrasena Perera and Panduka de Silva and also greatly encouraged by Swarnalatha Liyanage and Renuka Wanigasuriya the teachers in charge of the Society,I take great pride in my work and enjoy the spectrum of challenges that photography pro-vides,” she added.

Dr Tanya Ekanaya, distin-guished Sri Lan-kan and Interna-tional Pianist

will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concert No. 3 at the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka’s (SOSL’s) Premieres Concert on November 10.
