Let’s think about it: From the world’s perspec=ve, is the culture failing or becoming beBer? (what are some examples?) What are the good things happening culture? What are the Godly things happening in the culture? How do you define a successful life? Is that the same way God defines a successful life?
The Anatomy of A Godly Person THE MOUTH 2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. 4 A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. 7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.
The Anatomy of A Godly Person THE HEART 13 A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed. 14 The heart of him who hasunderstanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly. 28 The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
The Anatomy of A Godly Person THE EYES 30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes the bones. THE EARS 31 The ear that listens to life-‐giving reproof will dwell among the wise. THE STOMACH Proverbs 18:20 From the fruit of a man's mouth his stomach is saCsfied; he is saCsfied by the yield of his lips.
The Anatomy of A Godly Person THE MIND Proverbs 12:8 A man is commended according to his good sense, but one of twisted mind is despised. Proverbs 28:26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
The Anatomy of A Godly Person THE HANDS Proverbs 31:20 She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. Contrast: Proverbs 21:25 The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.
The Anatomy of A Godly Person THE FEET contrast of the ungodly Proverbs 1:16 for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood. and the Godly Proverbs 4:26 Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure.
THE ATTITUDE OF A FOLLOWER OF JESUS
Proverbs 15 1 A soJ answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word sCrs up anger. 3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. 9 The way of the wicked is an abominaCon to the Lord, but he loves him who pursues righteousness. 18 A hot-‐tempered man sCrs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contenCon. 19 The way of a sluggard is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright is a level highway. 26 The thoughts of the wicked are an
abominaCon to the Lord, but gracious words are pure.
THE ARCHITECTURE OF A CHRIST-‐CENTERED HOME
Proverbs 15 The Architecture of A ChrisOan Home (part 1) 5 A fool despises his father's instrucCon, but whoever heeds reproof is prudent. 6 In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked. 8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abominaCon to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him. 10 There is severe discipline for him who forsakes the way; whoever hates reproof will die.
Proverbs 15 The Architecture of A ChrisOan Home (part 2) 11 Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord; how much more the hearts of the children of man! 20 A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man despises his mother. 25 The Lord tears down the house of the proud but maintains the widow's boundaries. 27 Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live.
THE ANALYSIS OF SUCCESS FROM THE BOOK OF WISDOM
Proverbs 15 15 All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a conCnual feast. 16 BeWer is a liWle with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it. 17 BeWer is a dinner of herbs where love is than a faWened ox and hatred with it. 21 Folly is a joy to him who lacks sense, but a man of understanding walks straight ahead. 22 Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. 23 To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is!
A FULFILLING LIFE IN A FALLEN WORLD & A FAILING CULTURE
How would you measure the success, or failure, of Jesus Christ in light of
these words in Proverbs? How do you measure your life
…?
