Research challenges in Deep Learning

The STTP was inaugurated by Dr. P Mahabaleswarappa, Principal, MVJCE, on 12th October.

On behalf of the Management and the Institution, the Principal welcomed all the participants and

Resource Speakers to the Short erm Training Programme (STTP) on ‘Research Challenges and

Emerging Trends in Ontology and Data Science for Deep Learning’. In the welcome address, he

mentioned that considering the present research interest areas, the topic of the training program is

very apt. He added that Ontology is mainly concerned with organizing data into information and

knowledge, using which we can solve various problems in our domain. He said that in recent times,

every software industry and academic institution has been speaking about IoT, Machine Learning,

Cyber Security, Data Science etc. and Ontology is well-connected to all these thrust areas.

Following the Principal’s welcome address, Dr. Manjaiah D H, Professor, Mangalore University,

delivered the keynote address. In the keynote session, Dr. Manjaiah remarked that before three to

five decades, researchers had to put in enormous effort to solve a research problem because they

lacked proper knowledge of how to analyze or process large volumes of data. But today, with the

introduction of various emerging areas like Data Science, Data mining, Bigdata, Machine Learning

etc., data analysis, categorization and processing have become much easier and more convenient.

Dr. Manjaiah inspired the participants by interacting with them on topics such as Data Science

approaches for business decisions and incorporation of Artificial Intelligence in various real time

applications.
