AFGHANISTAN EARTHQUAKE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MIGRATION Situation Overview A 7.5 magnitude earthquake centered in Jurm district in northeastern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province struck on the aſternoon of 26 October, and was felt across the region. Inial reports indicate damaged homes and potenal casuales across northern, central and eastern Afghanistan, impacng 14 provinces (117 districts) in total. Badakhshan, Nangarhar, Kunar and Nooristan provinces are the most affected. Inial reports from local authories suggest approximately 8,300 families affected, with 102 individuals killed and 487 injured. Assessments have been completed in 98 districts and the distribuon of relief items is underway for eligible families. With the majority of assessments concluded, the distribuon of relief items to the verified families has been priorized. IOM has distributed relief items to approximately 1,000 families in Badakhshan, Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Takhar provinces, and distribuons are ongoing for addional assessed families in these provinces. As of 5 November, around 17,000 families have been verified, with their main needs idenfied as Non-Food Items (NFIs), blankets, tents, hygiene kits and shelters for those whose houses are completely destroyed. Access in some of the affected areas remains a challenge due to difficult terrain and security concerns. Situation Overview

A 7.5 magnitude earthquake centered in Jurm district in northeastern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province struck on the afternoon of 26 October, and was felt across the region. Initial reports indicate damaged homes and potential casualties across northern, central and eastern Afghanistan, impacting 14 provinces (117 districts) in total. Badakhshan, Nangarhar, Kunar and Nooristan provinces are the most affected.

Initial reports from local authorities suggest approximately 8,300 families affected, with 102 individuals killed and 487 injured. Assessments have been completed in 98 districts and the distribution of relief items is underway for eligible families. Of the verified families, more than 7,000 families have been assisted. IOM has carried out distributions of relief items for approximately 1,000 families in five provinces.

East Region

Kunar

Thirty-six people have reportedly been killed and 112 injured, with many families losing their shelters, household items and food stocks. Initial reports suggest 1,264 families affected in 15 districts. Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, WFP, ANDMA, ARCS, RRD, IMC, NRC and DRC have completed assessments in eleven districts, while assessments in Asmar, Asadabad, Khas Kunar and Narang districts are ongoing. So far, 2,206 families have been identified in 15 districts. Of these 1,790 families were assisted by humanitarian partners. IOM distributed NFIs, emergency shelter and solar lanterns to 295 families in Wata Pur, Dara Pech, Chapa Dara districts, while the remaining families were assisted by IMC, ANDMA, ARCS, UNICEF, WFP, Islamic Relief and NRC following coordination.

Laghman

Initial reports indicate 254 families affected, with six persons killed and 25 injured in five districts. Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, WFP, ANDMA, RRD, IRC, DRC, DoRR and DoAIL completed assessment in four districts, while the assessment in Ali Shang district will resume in villages where damage has been newly reported.

So far, 819 families have been identified as in need as assistance in Ali Shang, Alingar, Dawlatshah, Qarghy and Mehtarlam districts by joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, IRC, ARCS and RRD. 475 families have been assisted by humanitarian partners. IOM distributed NFIs, family tents and solar lanterns to 110 families in Ali Shang, while the remaining families were assisted by IMC, ARCS, IRC and DRC following coordination.

Nooristan

Initial reports collected through provincial and district authorities indicate 813 families affected, with six persons killed and 76 injured in eight districts. A joint assessment team comprising of IOM, IMC, ARCS and WFP completed assessments in Wama, Do Ab, Nurgram, Wagal and Parun districts. 803 families have been verified as in need of relief items.

330 families have received assistance from IMC and ARCS. Access and communication in Kamdesh, Barge Matal and Mandol districts remains a challenge due to security concerns and difficult terrain. ARCS committed to distributing relief items to 241 families in Kamdesh and Barge Matal on 7 November. IMC committed to initiating an assessment in Mandol, but this has so far not been possible due to security constraints. IOM will distribute winter clothing, blankets, solar lantern and tarpaulins to 195 families in Nurgram and Do Ab districts on 6 November.

Nangarhar

Initial reports indicate 1,426 families affected, with 23 persons killed and 103 individuals injured in 16 districts. Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, WFP, SCI, ARCS, NRC, IMC, DRC, NRC, RRD, ANDMA, and Bayat Foundation completed

assessments in eleven districts and identified 2,236 families in need of Non-Food Items (NFIs), blankets, tents, hygiene kits and shelters

So far, 1,925 families have been assisted by IOM, SCI, WFP, ARCS, UNICEF, Bayat Foundation, IR, NRC, DRC and IRC. IOM assisted 158 families with the provision of household items, blankets, emergency shelter and tents.

Central Region

Kabul

As per the initial information from stakeholders, no severe damage to houses in Kabul city was reported. However, there are reports of casualties and damage in Deh Sabz and Bagrami districts. A joint assessment will be conducted on 7 November.

Parwan

Initial reports indicate 565 families affected and two persons killed in eight districts. Joint assessment teams comprised of IOM, CARE, IDSH/WFP, ARCS, ANDMA and DRC have completed assessments in all districts. 369 families were identified as in need of NFIs, emergency shelter and food. To date, 338 families have been assisted by ARCS, ANDMA and CARE, while IOM will distribute for the remaining families on 6 November.

Panjshir

181 families were reportedly affected and seven persons injured in eight districts. Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, CARE, ARCS, IDSH/WFP, ANDMA and DRR found 367 families to be affected. IOM, ANDMA and ARCS will distribute relief items to the verified families on 8 November.

Kapisa

Initial reports indicate 697 families affected and 11 individuals injured in seven districts. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ARCS, ANDMA, DoRR, RRD and IDSH/WFP completed assessments on 5 November. 873 families were found to be

affected and mainly in need of NFIs, emergency shelter and food items. IOM, WFP, ANDMA, ARCS and CARE will distribute relief items on 9 November.

Northeast Region

Badakhshan

Initial reports indicate around 1,900 families affected, with ten persons killed and 59 injured in 17 districts. Joint assessment teams comprised of IOM, WFP, ANDMA, FOCUS, AfghanAid, NAC, CAF, ARCS, AKF, COAR, CONCERN and ROPANI initiated assessments on 28 October. So far, 6,665 families have been found to be affected. Assessments have been completed in fourteen districts, while the assessments in Khuran wa Manjan, Raghistan and Teshan districts are ongoing. 1,826 families have received relief items from IOM, ARCS, ANDMA, FOCUS, CONCERN and WFP.

IOM has distributed relief items to 159 families in Jurm, and will distribute relief items to 860 families in Kishim district on 6 November. IOM has relocated 2,900 family modules, winter modules, blankets and solar lanterns from Mazar-e-Sharif and Kabul to Badakhshan, and agencies within the region are requested to replenish their stocks in Badakhshan to address the unmet needs of affected families.

Baghlan

Initial reports indicate 542 families affected, two persons killed and 23 persons injured in twelve districts. Joint assessment teams comprised of IOM, ANDMA, FOCUS, WFP, DOWA, DoRR, and ARCS have concluded assessments nine districts. Reassessment is required in Guzargahe Noor, Khost and Firing districts, which will enable humanitarian agencies to identify eligible families and provide relief items.

1,749 families have been verified by joint assessment teams as mainly in need of hygiene and food items, while no major needs for NFIs were identified. ARCS has distributed relief items to 259 families in Dahne Ghori, Barka and Nahrin districts while distributions in the remaining districts will be carried out as

soon as WFP food items are dispatched. UNICEF will distribute hygiene kits to all of the affected families.

Takhar

Initial reports indicate 196 families affected, with sixteen killed and 49 injured in nine districts. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, ACTED, Mission East, WFP, PAT and ARCS has completed assessments in six districts. So far, 937 families have been found to be affected. 122 families have been assisted, and IOM, ANDMA, UNICEF, ARCS, BARAK and Concern Worldwide will distribute relief items for the remaining families on 7 November.

Southeast Region

Paktia, Ghazni and Khost

According to initial reports, 47 families were affected in three provinces. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, IRC, ANDMA, CARE, PIN, ARCS and DoA initiated an assessment on 28 October. So far, 458 families have been found to be affected, with assessments ongoing in some districts. 52 families were assisted with the provision of NFIs and tents.
