revenuegeneratedbytaxesandroyalties.
Eventhoughoureconomyisrunningredhotandwehaveanabundanceofvaluableresources,provinceslike
SaskatchewanandManitobacollectmorepublicrevenueperpersonthanwedo.
Sure,wagesforgovernmentworkers,doctorsandnursesarehigh,butwagesarehighforeveryoneherein
Alberta
compared
to
other
provinces.
In
fact,
the
average
hourly
wage
is
about
$3.50
higher
in
Alberta
than
intherestofCanada.
Andwhenitcomestogovernmentspendingasashareoftheoveralleconomy,werankdeadlast.Toputit
anotherway,despitethemythofoverspending,nootherprovincespendslessonpublicservicesasashareof
itseconomythanAlberta.
InaprovinceasstrongandeconomicallyvibrantasAlberta,whydowekeeprunningoutofmoneyforvital
publicserviceslikeeducationandhealthcare?Thefactsareclear: Itsbecausewehavearevenueproblem,
notaspendingproblem.Andtheonlysolutionisrevenuereform.
