AFRICA SMART FINTECH AWARDS AUGUST 16, 2018

AWARD GUIDELINES

OVERVIEW The Ist Africa Smart FinTech Awards celebrate the achievements of champions in the Africa FinTech ecosystem. The dynamic people and businesses disrupting financial solutions through technology and real time customer experience. These Awards seek to recognise success in the FinTech sector in its many forms. The awards night will be a thrilling evening of celebrating the best innovation, created by the best innovators and entrepreneurs that live and work in Africa.

ENTRY RULES 1. Entrance is FREE 2. You can enter as many Award Categories as you wish 3. The language of submission is English. 4. The Judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into 5. The application must be submitted via online only 6. Supporting documents must be sent to afs@westliongroup.com 7. Awards ceremony takes place on Thursday, August 16, 2018. 8. For each Award Category, the Judges will select THREE finalists. Finalists will be

invited to the Awards night, and the Winner will be announced on the night. Finalists will not need to buy a ticket to attend.

9. Seating at the Awards is extremely limited; however, entrants who do not make the finals list will be offered a special reduced price ticket and receive preference in the ticket/seating allocation.

EVALUATION METHODS § All nominations are treated confidentially. § All entries will be reviewed by a panel of independent judges on a ‘blind

judging’ basis. § The judging panel consists of prominent hospitality professionals and experts. § All completed nomination packs are given to the judging panel on June 15,

2018. § The judging panel reserves the right to discard any unnecessary information

enclosed. § The judges have the right to change the winner of each category with a

majority vote, if required. § If two entries running for first place have reached the same total amount of

points in a category, the final judging panel will declare a winner.

ENTRY TERMS & CONDITIONS § Any individual or organization in Africa FinTech ecosystem is eligible to apply § Entrants that do not get shortlisted may not be officially informed. § Entrants may be requested to provide any additional information during the

process. § Members of the judging panel cannot participate in the competition. § No member of the judging panel will be allowed to assess a property he/she

is associated with. § The entity or individual, if selected as the winner or a finalist, will be required

to be presented by its official representatives at the awards ceremony § Each entrant is responsible for ensuring that by applying to the awards it is

not violating copyright laws or the intellectual property rights of another entrant.

§ The decision made by the judging panel is final. All entrants agree to submit to the decisions of the evaluation committee and the judging panel.

§ By submitting an entry, each entrant grants to Westlion, the Africa Smart FinTech Awards 2018 and its sponsors the right to print, publish, display, broadcast, and use the entrant’s name, entry information, trade names, trademarks and logos for purposes related to the award. Neither the Africa Smart FinTech Awards nor Westlion are liable for any trademark disputes concerning entries to the award.

§ Award winners and finalists may state in advertising or in promotional material, or on their stationery that they have been winners/finalists. They must include the Africa Smart FinTech Awards or the Africa FinTech Summit’s logo, the category and year in which they have won.

§ All entrants must agree to these rules.

ANNOUNCEMENT § Two finalists and the winner in each category will be notified one week prior to

the ceremony. § Finalists and winners will be announced to the public during the awards

ceremony. § Finalists will receive a certificate of accomplishment, while winners will be

presented with a trophy. § Finalists and winners’ details will be included in the awards presentation, event

website, press release and post event report.

AWARD CATEGORIES This year’s Africa Smart FinTech Awards has eight (8) categories as follows:

1. FINTECH INNOVATION IN SMART PAYMENTS The Judges are looking for an innovative new product or service that disrupts the payments sector; services could be from all areas of the FinTech sector including mobile or digital currency providers.

2. FINTECH INNOVATION IN SMART LENDING (B2B OR B2C)

This award recognizes a business which offers a new or significantly improved service that implements technology to bring benefits to both lenders and borrowers. Judges are looking for innovative credit modelling, use of data elements and/or an improved user experience.

3. AFRICA FINTECH START-UP OF THE YEAR

The judges are looking for a start-up business (services launched in the past 15 months) that has disrupted the FinTech in Africa space through the implementation of new and innovative solutions, challenging the status quo and transforming the industry landscape.

4. SMART FINTECH-BANK COLLABORATION OF THE YEAR

The Judges are looking for specific projects, or products, that showcase how a bank and a FinTech firm have worked together, either in collaboration, or using open APIs

5. FEMALE FINTECH LEADER OF THE YEAR The Award Judges are looking for an outstanding female individual who has persistently contributed to the advancement of the FinTech sector

6. FINTECH CTO/CIO OF THE YEAR

Judges will be looking for an outstanding CTO or CIO who has created or led cutting edge innovation, a CTO or CIO who may have taken a calculated risk and the risk has paid off.

7. FINTECH INNOVATION IN CYBER SECURITY

This award will recognise the organisation or product that has devised the most innovative and effective method(s) of preventing cybercrime in protecting an organizations’ or customer’s assets. The winning initiative will demonstrate the providers understanding of the diversity of fraud and/or cybercrime risk.

8. FINTECH LEADER OF THE YEAR

This award will recognise an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the transformation of the finance sector, either through defining new standards, launching a key technology initiative, or driving a regulatory-related change that benefits the industry.

ABOUT JUDGES The selected panel of judges for this year’s Africa Smart FinTech Awards consists of seasoned FinTech Advisors, investors, innovation leads with an extensive track record in the rapid changing world of finance in Africa.
