Die jagseisoen is volstoom op dreef en by Africa’s Bowhunter gebeur daar vanjaar verskeie nuwe dinge. Die tydskrif het weer by HuntEx
uitgestal en help ook tans met die boogjagproduksies van die Wild en Wragtig televisieprogram wat binnekort op kykNET uitgesaai word.
Teen die tyd dat hierdie uitgawe op die rakke verskyn, het baie boogjagters al hul eerste jagtog agter die rug en ’n hele aantal diere met die boog platgetrek.
Te oordeel aan die getal trofeefoto’s wat ingestuur word, word daar gewis vanjaar minder gejag as vorige jare. Die rede is natuurlik die hoë pryse wat wild op veilings behaal weens die teling van kleurvariante. Dié omstrede aangeleentheid is juis deesdae baie op jagters se lippe. Cleve skryf ook in dié uitgawe in die hoofartikel, The range factor – Teaching an old dog new tricks, oor die vooruitgang in boogtegnologie en hoe dit sy siening verander het oor die afstand waarop wild met die boog gejag kan word.
Daar is ook twee jagstories, ’n rooihartbeesjag en ’n impalajag, asook die tweede artikel deur Jeanine van Kradenburg oor kompetisieboogskiet. Harry Marx toets Elite se Synergy-boog, waarmee hy baie beïndruk is, terwyl Cleve skryf oor die 100 grein Swhacker meganiese jagpunt.
Gemeet aan die aantal skuts wat onlangs by die jaarlikse Sterkrivier tradisionele boog-skietbyeenkoms opgedaag het, is daar ’n groeiende belangstelling in dié sport. Een van die redes is waarskynlik die talle Hollywood-films waarin daar met langboë of kromboë geskiet word. Min mense sal weet dat een van ons plaaslike boogbouers al vir verskeie van hierdie filmproduksies boë gebou het. Lesers sal oplet dat daar sulke vierkantige swart blokkies by baie van die artikels ver-skyn. Hiermee poog Africa’s Bowhunter om die gedrukte media en die elektron-iese media nader aan mekaar te bring.
In volgende maand se uitgawe kyk ons na die jag van rooibokke en Harry Marx vertel van ’n groot eland wat hy platgetrek het. Adrian de Villiers skryf oor die redes waarom ’n jaglem ’n bok dood en Luis Pinel bespreek die keuse van jagpunte en pyle vir die skoner geslag.
