FORCE FACTS!• A force can be a push or a pull. Whenever we are pushing or
pulling, bending or lifting, squeezing or stretching, we are applying a force!
• Forces cannot be seen but you can often see what it can does.
• Forces can:– change the speed of an object– change the direction an object is moving in– change the size or shape of an object
• Forces can be measured using a force meter. • Forces are measured in units called newton, and it has the
symbol N.

GRAVITY• All objects have a force that attracts them
towards each other. This is called gravity. • Gravity only becomes noticeable when
there is a really massive object like a moon, planet or star.
• We are pulled down towards the ground because of gravity.
• The gravitational force pulls in the direction towards the centre of the Earth.
• Gravitational force increases when: – the masses are bigger – the objects are closer

WEIGHT• Weight is a force caused by
gravity. The weight of an object is the gravitational force between the object and the Earth. The more mass the object has the greater its weight will be.
• Weight is a force, so it's measured in newtons.

PRESSURE• You can push a drawing pin into a piece of
wood because you have applied pressure onto the drawing pin.
• To work out pressure, you need to know two things:
• the force or weight applied • the area over which the force or weight works. • This is the equation for working out pressure: • pressure = force ÷ area • Pressure is measured in units called Pascals
(Pa).
