AND WHEREAS Blckle Seagrave Limited have delivered in the City of Halifax two aerial Ladder Tfuuks: one being a one-hundred foot six wheel, Seagrave Aerial Ladder Truck and the other a seventy-five foot four wheel Aerial Ladder Track, which have been offered to the City of Halifax at a cost respectively of $23,000000 and %9,425# 000

AND WHEREAS at a meeting of the Council held the 11th day of April : 194 0, it was resolved that upon the passage et' the legislation submitted that the City do borrow the money necessary to purchase the said trucks and that the proper pfficials of the City do such things as may be necessary to car.:77 out the intention of the said resolution°

AND WHEREAS the legislation as submitted by the City was amended by the Legislature and the City hac been advised for greater certainty to pass this resolution confirming the said resolution of April 11th, 1940: and determining to purchase the said Aerial Ladder Trucks for prices or sums aforesaid°

At a meeting of the Committee on Works held on the 17th instant, the attached report of Assistant Engineer Ro M. MacKinnon, recommending that the fire protection rate for the civic year 1940-41 be fixed at the same rate as last year, namely, thirteen and a half cents (0131) per 4000 of valuation was on motion of Alderman Walkers seconded by Alderman Freda adopted unanimously.

These sidewalks are very much needed: there being a very large pedestrian traffic to and from the various hospitals and Medical Centre on Morris Street and I would recommend that they be ordered to be constructed this year.

It would, however, be in keepirig with past practices to construct the walk from South Park Street easterly in front of the houses in that locaq.ity. The length of this walk would be 340 feet, estimated cost of work 1400, abuttert s share $750.00 and cost to City $650,-,00c

It may be pointed out that the foundations of the houses in front of the proposed sidewalk are about 15-inches below the present crown of the street and that it will be nedessary to cut down the street elevation an average of one foot for a distance of 300 feet and resurface.

The estimated cost for this work is $1500.000

Sir:— As In the case of Creighton Street,

there is a gap of uncompleted sidewalk on Maynard Street between Cornwallis Street and Cunard Street on both sides.

On the east side there is no walk and on the west side no sidewalk between Cornwallis Street and the Armouries°

It is proposed to complete this section by constructing a concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter. The length on east side is 440 feet and on west side 230 feet

The estimated cost is $2450.40, . abutters share of cost $1225.00 and Cityls share of cost $12250000

It is recommended that sidewlks, curbs and gutters be constructed on MaynardyStreet between Cornwallis Street and Cunard Streete
